In the early morning, the entire Shangyang was shrouded in a thin mist, and the green plants at the door were covered with dew. The surroundings were quiet, with only a small cat on the eaves occasionally meowing. Ye Zhao came out of the house, quietly closed the door, and walked into the empty bluestone street.
A breath of fresh, moist air rushed towards him. Ye Zhao took two deep breaths and sighed with satisfaction.
She loved the mornings in Shangyang; the cobblestone streets were peaceful, comfortable, and tranquil.
Ye Zhao strolled slowly along the street, occasionally stopping to chat with one or two people, and also clarifying yesterday's rumors.
Before long, she had arrived at all four seasons.
Ye Zhao opened the door, cleaned, washed her hands, and made tea, doing her things methodically, completely unaware that someone had been watching her every move for a long time from a distance.
Today she wore a white knitted dress and a gray coat. When she was working, she took off her coat and put on an apron. Her long hair was also half-tied up and hung down behind her head. She looked gentle and virtuous, and her whole body exuded a quiet and elegant temperament.
Chen Du stood not far away, watching quietly for a long time before finally stepping over.
Ye Zhao was engrossed in wiping the utensils in her hands when she caught a glimpse of someone walking in from outside the door. She said gently, "You've arrived? Could you hand me that towel over there?"
Chen Du glanced at the towel on the table, paused for a moment, picked it up, and handed it to her.
Ye Zhao subconsciously reached out to take it, but when she looked up, she found that the hand in front of her had distinct knuckles and long, slender fingers, which did not look like a girl's hand.
She paused for a moment, then looked up at the hand in front of her and met Shen Du's calm gaze.
Their eyes met, and Chen Du noticed her puzzled and confused gaze, subconsciously pursing his lips.
Ye Zhao was only slightly taken aback before asking, "Up so early? What brings you here?"
As she spoke, she stood up. Shen Du could see clearly that there was no smile on her face, only calmness.
"Come out for a stroll, is this your shop?"
Chen Du withdrew his gaze, looking around Ye Zhao's small shop as he asked.
Ye Zhao nodded: "Yes, it just opened recently. Shall we sit down for a bit? What would you like to drink?"
Perhaps because he treated Yuanbao very well, Yuanbao grew to like him more and more, and Ye Zhao became less resistant to him, but she couldn't treat him like a friend; she could only be polite to him.
Chen Du paused for a second, then asked, "Do you have Tieguanyin tea?"
"Yes, please sit wherever you like and wait a moment."
"good."
Chen Du walked to the window and sat down, his gaze slowly sweeping around. He would occasionally ask Ye Zhao a question, and Ye Zhao would answer every question. The atmosphere between the two was quiet and harmonious.
A short while later, Ye Zhao placed the tea in front of Chen Du: "Here, your tea."
Chen Du nodded slightly: "Thank you!"
As soon as she finished speaking, the cries of vendors came from the doorway. Ye Zhao suddenly turned her head and saw that Chen Du's eyes lit up.
The next second, Chen Du saw her turn to look at him and ask, "Do you want some wontons outside?"
Looking into her clear and bright eyes, Shen Du nodded subconsciously. Ye Zhao turned and ran out, her whole figure looking very light and agile. Seeing this, Shen Du couldn't help but smile.
"Uncle, two servings of wontons, thank you!" Shen Du heard Ye Zhao's clear and cheerful voice.
"Zhao Zhao, you're up so early again today? There aren't any guests right now, why don't you sleep a little longer?"
"The air is so fresh this morning, I'll get up and go for a walk."
"Hahaha, good..."
"How have you been lately? Business is good, isn't it?"
"It's alright, it's just..."
The two whispered conversation drifted from the roadside. Shen Du listened quietly, and suddenly began to doubt his own way of life.
He was busy with work every day, and in his spare time he only interacted with a few people in his circle. He kept himself in a high place, like a person in a shell, isolated from the outside world. Ye Zhao was the complete opposite of him. She seemed to enjoy exploring new things, loved the hustle and bustle of life, and was immersed in the everyday life of the city. She lived a vibrant, bright, and dazzling life.
Just a few minutes later, Ye Zhao came in carrying two steaming bowls of wontons. She skillfully put the two bowls of wontons into a bowl and placed them on the table. Shen Du wanted to help but couldn't get a hand in it.
Having bought the breakfast she wanted, Ye Zhao's mood improved noticeably. With a faint smile on her face, she said, "Try it, this old man's wontons are very delicious."
“Okay.” Shen Du reached out and picked up the small spoon. His large hands had long, slender fingers, and his movements seemed slightly clumsy as he picked up the small spoon. Ye Zhao turned to the counter, took a large spoon, and handed it to him: “Use this.”
"Thank you!" Shen Du said, taking the spoon from her hand.
The moment the tender and smooth hot wontons entered his mouth, Chen Du felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction wash over him. He looked up at Ye Zhao across from him; she had a smile on her lips, first taking a picture with her phone before burying her head in her bowl of wontons, her face full of satisfaction and joy.
Chen Du smiled slightly and lowered his head to continue eating.
As he ate, he said, "These wontons are really delicious. Do you eat them often?"
While typing on her phone, Ye Zhao shook her head: "No, you get tired of eating it all the time. It's nice to have it once in a while."
Chen Du nodded, turned to look at the street outside where more and more pedestrians were appearing, and sighed, "Life here is very comfortable..."
After replying to the message, Ye Zhao put down her phone, followed his gaze to look outside, and nodded, saying, "Yeah, it's a small place, the pace of life is slow, it's peaceful and comfortable."
"How many stores do you own in Shangyang?"
"Not many, just two or three."
Firstly, because she has limited energy, and secondly, because the revenue from these stores is more than enough for her and Yuanbao to live comfortably, so given her laid-back personality, she has no intention of opening more stores.
Shen Du nodded thoughtfully, then asked, "I heard that this ancient city was developed by Jiang Che?"
"Yes, Ah Che put in some effort, and it's starting to run normally now."
Hearing the undisguised intimacy between her and Jiang Che in her tone, Chen Du subconsciously frowned for some reason. A feeling of unease gripped his heart, inexplicable yet somewhat unresolved.
Ye Zhao slowly ate the wontons in her bowl. After a while, several employees from the shop arrived. Ye Zhao explained the matter to them and then prepared to return to Green Field. Chen Du also got up and slowly followed behind her.
Several employees stared curiously at the two people's backs, looking amazed.
"Is this Yuanbao's dad? He's so handsome!"
"Wow, Sister Zhao has good taste. Her current boyfriend is the big boss of our Shangyang Scenic Area, and he's very handsome too!"
