Chapter Seventy-Seven: A Melodramatic Plot

Amidst the pattering rain, Jiang Che somehow managed to take Ye Zhao's hand, and the two walked behind each other, supporting one another. Mu Xu glanced back, but his gaze seemed to be burned as he abruptly turned away, pretending he hadn't seen what was happening.

After a while, the group finally came down. There was still a short distance to the foot of the mountain. Ye Zhao breathed a sigh of relief, her legs felt weak, and her ankles were aching slightly.

When the two of them fell earlier, she felt some pain in her ankle, but seeing that Sister Li's injury was more serious, and considering the rain, there was no guarantee that the two of them wouldn't be in danger if they stayed on the mountain, so she had no choice but to endure the pain and go down the mountain. Now that she was almost at the bottom of the mountain, she probably breathed a sigh of relief, and that's when she felt her ankle hurting more and more.

The path to the foot of the mountain was relatively flat, and Ye Zhao let go of Jiang Che's hand. Only then did she realize that their hands had been clasped together without her noticing. Feeling the lingering warmth from his palm, she looked away somewhat uncomfortably.

As they reached the foot of the mountain, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

The path was relatively wide, allowing several people to walk side by side. Ye Zhao and Jiang Che walked down the mountain side by side, but unexpectedly, something happened in an instant. Ye Zhao tripped over a vine and stumbled to the side. Jiang Che quickly pulled her into his arms, but unexpectedly, he slipped and the two of them tumbled down the small slope next to them.

Mu Xu turned his head and saw the two of them tumbling down the slope together. Fortunately, the slope was relatively gentle and there were no rocks. The two of them stopped after rolling for a short distance.

He was tense for a moment, then saw that the two had stopped unharmed, and muttered to himself, "Should we save them?"

Ye Zhao never expected such a melodramatic scene to happen to her. At this moment, she was nestled in Jiang Che's arms, pressed tightly against him, completely inseparable.

Amidst the torrential rain, Ye Zhao's vision was blurred. Jiang Che's breathing was right next to her ear, the warm breath touching her skin, as if something was burning from her ear to her neck. Ye Zhao instantly stiffened. She felt that the cacophony in her mind was even louder than the noise brought by the downpour.

Jiang Che felt the warm, soft body beneath him, and his whole body stiffened. It took him several seconds to slowly get up: "Are you alright? Did you hurt yourself anywhere?"

As he got up and left, Ye Zhao suddenly felt that she could breathe again.

Despite the heavy rain blurring their vision, both of them awkwardly looked away, yet tentatively glanced at each other, their eyes meeting briefly before subtly looking away again.

In the pouring rain, their emotions rose and fell with the sound of the rain.

Seeing this, Mu Xu tentatively called out, "President Jiang! Are you alright?"

Jiang Che then turned around and replied, "It's okay, let's go, we'll be right there."

Ye Zhao stood up and said to Jiang Che, "I'm fine, let's go."

This slope isn't steep, and there aren't any loose rocks. If you fall down, you'll just get a couple of bumps, and nothing serious will happen.

Seeing that Jiang Che was alright, Ye Zhao felt relieved and followed him down the mountain.

Jiang Ze and a few others parked their car on the side of the road. The heavy rain was washing over the car windows, making it impossible to see anything outside. As he waited, he became increasingly anxious. He grabbed an umbrella and was about to get out when he saw a figure approaching from not far away. He quickly opened the car window and looked over, just in time to see Ye Zhao and the others coming down from the mountain.

"Zhao Zhao!" Jiang Ze grabbed an umbrella and rushed downstairs, pulling the soaking wet Ye Zhao into his arms.

"Why didn't you check the weather before going out? You went into the mountains in such heavy rain. Are you hurt? Did you fall anywhere?"

He shielded Ye Zhao under the umbrella, put his arm around her shoulder, and went straight to the car, completely ignoring Jiang Che behind him.

Mu Xu and the others had rather interesting expressions, looking at Jiang Ze and then at Jiang Che, their expressions changing repeatedly.

Jiang Che's expression remained unchanged. He calmly accepted the umbrella handed to him and said to Mu Xu, "Have someone take Sister Li to the hospital. Come back after she's been treated."

"Yes, Mr. Jiang."

Ye Zhao was led to the car by Jiang Ze. As she got in, she glanced back and saw Jiang Che standing in the pouring rain with an umbrella, talking to Mu Xu, but his gaze was fixed on her.

Even though the other person was completely obscured by the heavy rain and fog, Ye Zhao still turned around abruptly, her ears starting to burn.

Jiang Ze was still rambling on and on, and Ye Zhao only heard bits and pieces of what he said.

Just as Jiang Ze started the car to head back, Ye Zhao suddenly exclaimed, "Oh!" Jiang Ze quickly asked, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

Ye Zhao looked out the window and asked, "Them?"

Jiang Ze scoffed and said, "Hey, there are plenty of cars. I'll take you back first..."

As he spoke, he started the car and drove off. Ye Zhao looked in the rearview mirror and saw several figures standing in the rain behind him, preparing to get into the car.

Jiang Ze took her directly home and urged Ye Zhao to take a hot shower and check if she had any injuries. He then called Yang Juan and the others to let them know that she was safe.

After finishing the call, I remembered Jiang Che and sent him a message as well.

"Brother, are you alright?"

Jiang Che called him directly. Seeing the unfamiliar background behind Jiang Ze, he asked, "Where are you? Where's Ye Zhao?"

Jiang Ze glanced upstairs and replied, "I'm at Zhao Zhao's house. Are you alright?"

Jiang Che was silent for two seconds on the other end of the phone before replying, "I'm fine. Check if Ye Zhao is alright; she fell several times."

"I know..."

After the two hung up the phone, Jiang Ze wandered around downstairs, looking around Ye Zhao's house.

Ye Zhao and her son's home was decorated very warmly. There were photos of the mother and son hanging on the wall, and a growth record book for the child, which was full of photos of Yuanbao from when he was a baby to now, on the cabinet.

Jiang Ze looked at Yuanbao, who was smiling broadly, and muttered, "Little brat."

Meanwhile, Ye Zhao upstairs was struggling to take a shower.

I was running too fast down the mountain earlier and fell a few times without even noticing. Now, with the hot water on my face, my whole body is burning with pain, I have several scrapes and a sprained ankle.

She quickly took a shower, dried her hair, and then went downstairs.

Jiang Ze dried himself off with a towel, then turned around and saw her limping down the stairs. He quickly got up to greet her: "What happened? Did you hurt your foot?"

Ye Zhao helped him down and replied, "It's a slight sprain, nothing serious..."

Jiang Ze frowned and said unhappily, "Why didn't you say so earlier? If you were injured, we would have gone straight to the hospital. What's the point of coming back?"

Ye Zhao kept her head down quietly without saying a word. She just felt that she was too dirty and wanted to come back and wash up first.

As he spoke, he took Ye Zhao's hand and led her outside.
