Chapter 147 Ye Zhao's Past

Ye Zhao looked up at him, her tone remaining calm: "What do you want to know?"

She didn't understand why Jiang Che suddenly brought up these things. She didn't really want to talk about the past either, because Ye Zhao's past wasn't her past, and her past, the transmigration into the book, was bizarre enough that probably no one would believe it. She didn't want to talk about such a private matter.

Jiang Che looked into her eyes and slowly asked, "Are you unhappy? Because I asked you about what happened before?"

Looking into his eyes, Ye Zhao sensed Jiang Che's cautiousness and knew that he was carefully testing her emotions. She said frankly, "Yes, I don't like people asking me about my past."

Jiang Che thought of the rumors about Ye Zhao and assumed that Ye Zhao was unwilling to talk about her past because of the trauma caused by her family of origin. He felt a pang of heartache and looked at Ye Zhao and said softly, "Then I won't ask anymore. I'll listen whenever you want to tell me."

Perhaps worried that Ye Zhao might overthink things, he explained in a low voice, "I didn't mean to pry into your past; I just wanted to know more about you."

His voice is gentle yet magnetic, easily soothing people.

Ye Zhao smiled, then suddenly reached out and patted his head. Jiang Che quietly let her touch him, a faint smile playing on his lips. Ye Zhao felt that he was like a docile puppy enjoying her petting him. She grinned and said gently, "I know, but I don't really like talking about the past. We can talk about other things, or we can get to know each other in other ways, like this..."

As she spoke, she leaned in and kissed Jiang Che. Jiang Che's face visibly flushed, and his expression showed disbelief. He looked surprised and happy, his eyes shining slightly, containing an expectation that he himself couldn't quite explain. After a few seconds of stunned silence, he finally said, "Are you teasing me?"

Ye Zhao smiled and met his eyes: "So unclear..."

Before she could finish speaking, Jiang Che grabbed her waist and kissed her. The atmosphere in the private room gradually heated up, and after a long while, the two separated, panting.

Ye Zhao's lips were rosy red, her face flushed, and her eyes were clear and bright, as if filled with water.

Jiang Che wasn't much better off. His eyes were slightly dark, and he was breathing heavily. When he looked at Ye Zhao, he unconsciously swallowed. He pulled Ye Zhao into his arms and held her silently, but he didn't dare to get too close to her, afraid that she would notice his abnormality.

Ye Zhao let him hold her, and after a while, she asked gently, "Have you been very busy lately? Are you tired?"

Jiang Che smiled and replied, "It's alright, it's just that I miss you a lot when I can't see you."

Upon seeing Ye Zhao, he felt that all the exhaustion was worthwhile.

Ye Zhao pinched his waist lightly: "Smooth talker."

Jiang Che chuckled softly, about to say something, but was interrupted by a knock on the door.

The two separated, and Ye Zhao tidied her hair before saying to the outside, "Please come in."

As soon as she finished speaking, the waiter outside pushed open the door and came in to serve the dishes. Ye Zhao glanced at them and saw that the dishes on the food cart looked and smelled delicious, and her appetite was immediately whetted.

Upon seeing this, Jiang Che couldn't help but smile.

The waiter served the dishes and then left. Jiang Che picked up his chopsticks and placed a piece of sweet and sour pork on Ye Zhao's plate, smiling as he said, "Try it, their pork is quite delicious."

Ye Zhao didn't think much of it, picked it up and put it in her mouth. After slowly tasting it, she couldn't help but give a thumbs up in surprise: "Hmm, it tastes very good. I haven't eaten anything this delicious in a long time."

Jiang Che picked up another piece of pork rib for her: "Try this too."

Ye Zhao put the ribs into her mouth, and they were sweet and sour again. She finally realized something was wrong. She glanced around and saw three sweet and sour dishes on the table, and she was stunned.

Jiang Che noticed her gaze was fixed on the table, as if he knew what she was thinking, and said with a smile, "These are all your favorite flavors, try them."

Ye Zhao looked puzzled for a moment: "How did you know I like sweet and sour flavor...?"

Jiang Che smiled, his expression somewhat arrogant, and said, "I just knew it."

Before Ye Zhao could ask, he added, "As your boyfriend, it would be a serious dereliction of duty of me not even know your preferences."

Ye Zhao couldn't help but smile at his pleading expression and gave him a thumbs up, saying, "Our A-Che is awesome!"

Jiang Che's smile grew even brighter, his ears turning slightly red. He felt a little awkward and couldn't understand why he always couldn't help but act childishly around Ye Zhao, only to regret it afterwards and worry that Ye Zhao would find him immature.

The two chatted and laughed during the meal. Jiang Che felt more satisfied than ever before. After sending Ye Zhao back to her hotel, he rushed back to the company to handle some matters.

Meanwhile, Chen Du and Yuan Bao from City B also sat down at a table alone for a rare meal.

Chen Du had never fed a child before, so the nanny took care of Yuanbao almost the entire time. Little Yuanbao chattered away while eating.

"Grandma Xiao, I want to eat braised pork!"

The new nanny smiled kindly at him, serving him food as she said, "Okay, Grandma Xiao will cook for you tonight."

Little Yuanbao nodded happily, then lowered his head to pick at the rice in his bowl. Chen Du looked at his round little head, smiled, and said gently, "Grandpa will arrive this afternoon."

Little Yuanbao paused for a moment, then his eyes lit up, and he asked impatiently, "The grandpa with the cane?"

Chen Du: "...You have other grandfathers?"

Yuanbao: "...No."

He blinked his big eyes and looked very cute.

Shen Du couldn't help but smile. Yuan Bao smiled too, her eyes crinkling, her lips red and teeth white. She looked exactly like Ye Zhao. Shen Du was stunned for a moment, then lowered her head and ate quietly.

While shoveling food into his mouth, Xiao Yuanbao asked, "Dad, can you play with me this afternoon?"

Shen Du shook his head without hesitation: "I have work to do this afternoon."

Yuanbao paused for a moment, then asked, "What is a job?"

Chen Du: "...It's about making money."

Little Yuanbao paused for a second upon hearing this, then confidently declared, "I have money!"

Chen Du: "That's your money."

Yuanbao: "I can give you money if you play with me."

His voice was soft and sweet, but his tone was very serious. After thinking for a second or two, he added, "My mother plays with me every day."

Chen Du patiently explained, "Because Mom doesn't have a job..."

Little Yuanbao interrupted him almost impatiently: "Yes! Mom owns several shops, and there are lots of customers. Mom earns money and spends time with me too."

Chen Du's eyes flickered slightly, as if he was thinking about something.

Little Yuanbao added, "Mom said spending time with Yuanbao is the most important thing; you can always make money..."

Upon hearing this, Shen Du was momentarily stunned.
