Chapter 226 We'll meet again if fate allows.

A pile of medicine was handed to Nangong Chiyu; he had never seen medicine like this before.

"Did your mother make all these medicines?"

"Um!"

"Yi... Huan..."

Nangong Chiyu tried calling Yi Huan by her name like that.

Aren't you afraid of me?

Yi Huan shook her head: "I'm not afraid. I think Uncle is very kind and not scary at all."

After a restless morning, Nangong Chiyu finally managed a slight smile upon seeing the little girl.

"I find Yi Huan quite endearing. It's freezing outside, where are you going? Where's your father? Isn't he coming with you?"

For some reason, Yi Huan didn't want to lie to the person in front of her.

“My mother, Master Xie, and I are going to the capital. I don’t have a father. My father was conscripted to fight against Beiliang and died in battle.”

Chi Yi and Nangong Chiyu were both stunned for a moment, and their eyes were filled with pity as they looked at Yi Huan.

They came back from Beichuan City, a place where war had raged for years, and the ground was littered with bones, piled up to be as high as a city gate.

"Yi Huan, I don't know your father..."

It turns out he was the child of a soldier from Beichuan City. Nangong Chiyu knew best what kind of life he lived on the border.

White bones are scattered everywhere in the city, the barren land is stained with blood. My mother, unaware that her son is gone, sends him new clothes year after year.

“It’s alright, Uncle. My brother and I are my father’s posthumous children. We’ve never met him, and we only know that he will never come back.”

"You have an older brother?"

"Yes! My brother and I are twins, a boy and a girl. He is studying at school and did not go to the capital with us."

Chi Yi felt sorry for the child, who was the child of a soldier from Beichuan City.

"Your Highness, since we're going back to the capital anyway, why don't we take them with us? Maybe their father even fought alongside us on the battlefield."

Nangong Chiyu was also moved with compassion. His father had died in battle, leaving his mother to raise two children alone, which was truly difficult.

"Yi Huan, what's your father's name? I might even know him."

Chi Yi wanted to ask if it was the child of a brother he knew.

Yi Huan turned to look at Chi Yi and said, "My father's name is Chen Huaixu."

Nangong Chiyu narrowed his eyes, something seemed to flash through his mind, and his headache flared up again.

"Chen Huaixu, never heard of him, but your father is already a hero for being able to fight the Beiliang people in Beichuan City."

In the blink of an eye, Chi Yi saw Nangong Chiyu rubbing the sides of his forehead and said with concern.

"Your Highness, your headache has flared up again. Why don't you go and get some sleep?"

Nangong Chiyu shook his head. This pain was just a side effect of the injury and nothing serious.

"Uncle, why don't you try the herbal oil that Yi Huan gave you? I heard my mom and grandma say it's the best for treating headaches."

...

After finishing their meal, the three of them cleaned up together. Xie Wanwan washed the dishes, and Su Zuo went to gather some firewood.

Su Luo was worried that Yi Huan would be cold in the carriage, so she used a small stove to make some charcoal and brought it to her.

When they opened the carriage door, they discovered that Yi Huan was gone.

"Huanhuan, Huanhuan, where are you?"

She was kidnapped just yesterday and has disappeared again. Su Luo is afraid that something bad has happened to her again.

"Wanwan, have you seen where Yi Huan went?"

Xie Wanwan didn't notice the empty carriage; Yi Huan had just said she was going up there to read.

"I wonder if she'll be taken away by that Chi Yi from yesterday again."

Su Luo put down the small stove and headed straight for the main tent opposite.

Two soldiers outside tried to block Su Luo's path, but Su Luo knocked them down and rushed into the tent shouting.

"Chi Yi, Chi Yi, come out here."

As soon as Su Luo entered, she saw Yi Huan pressing her hands on Nangong Chiyu's temples and instantly flew into a rage.

"What are you doing? Huanhuan, come here."

These people had a grudge against her, and the first thing Su Luo thought of was that they were enslaving Yi Huan.

Su Luo walked to the table and pulled Yi Huan over.

Only then did I notice that Yi Huan's fingers were covered in herbal oil.

"Mom, don't blame Uncle. Huanhuan wanted to apply the herbal oil to him. It has nothing to do with him."

Nangong Chiyu also stood up. Su Luo was pulling the child so hard, wasn't she afraid of hurting Yi Huan?

"Lady Su, I am Nangong Chiyu. I am deeply sorry for what happened last night. To express my apology, I will escort you to the capital this time."

"No need! And about what happened last night, you'd better keep your mouth shut. I won't let you off the hook when I get the chance."

Su Luo's cold and worried expression made Nangong Chiyu feel like he had seen her somewhere before, even though he hadn't looked closely last night.

He had suffered a severe head injury on the battlefield, and he didn't remember much of what had happened before. Sometimes he would have some images, but he couldn't piece them together.

"Yi Huan, let's go."

Watching the mother and daughter leave the tent, Nangong Chiyu smiled and shook his head, too lazy to argue with a woman.

Su Luo went out, and Chi Yi stared blankly at her before turning back to Nangong Chiyu.

"Your Highness, what exactly happened last night that made this Lady Su so determined to kill you? She's a healer and also knows how to use poison. If she keeps targeting you, it won't be a good thing..."

Nangong Chiyu glared at him, and Chi Yi stopped talking, not daring to say anything more.

"Chi Yi, don't ask questions you shouldn't ask. Whether we can meet in the capital is another matter."

The capital city is so big, Nangong Chiyu is not worried at all about the threat Su Luo just made to him. He will manage his army, and Su Luo will remain a commoner.

He would consider safely escorting them to the capital as compensation for her reputation.

Another day passed, and the official road was finally open. Su Zuo drove the carriage ahead, with a large army following behind them.

If they stay in the inn, the army will set up camp outside the city and send a few people to protect Su Luo and the others.

"Madam Su, we are in the suburbs now, and we will be arriving in the capital soon."

Looking out of the carriage window, Su Luo could still see Nangong Chiyu and the others riding behind them, like a persistent ghost.

"Wanwan, this Nangong Chiyu, you really haven't heard of him in the capital?"

Xie Wanwan had never heard of it.

"No, perhaps I'm just ignorant, I really haven't heard of it."

"Forget it, we'll ask Nangong Qing when we get to the capital. He'll definitely know something."

With only one kilometer left to the city gate of the capital, Nangong Chiyu rode his horse to Su Luo's carriage.

"Madam Su, you've reached the capital soon. I'll escort you safely to the city gate, and then we'll part ways."

Nangong Chiyu still had to return to the palace to report back. After safely delivering Su Luo and the others, he could also give her deceased husband peace of mind.

"You're just being delusional!"

Leaving behind only this one sentence, Su Luo did not want to see this person again.

Yi Huan, however, leaned against the car window and spoke to the people outside.

"Uncle, will we ever see each other again?"

"If we are destined to meet, we will meet again."

Yi Huan felt a pang of reluctance deep down, but there was nothing she could do.

Outside the city gate, two carriages were waiting for Su Luo and the others, but why were there soldiers following behind Su Luo's carriage?
