Chapter 146 Reunion Night

The door opened, and Zhang Ma handed the tray to Cheng Zhiwen, her eyes constantly glancing inside.

His gaze met Shen Qing's, and he glanced at Shen Qing a few more times.

Cheng Zhiwen closed the door, locked it, and returned carrying the tray.

It was a big bowl of tomato and egg noodles.

Looking at the bright red soup, Shen Qing swallowed.

Before she transmigrated here, she was quite fond of dishes involving tomatoes.

She loves to eat everything, from tomato fish and tomato beef to tomato chicken.

After transmigrating, I was constantly busy and often ate whatever was available, forgetting my favorite dishes.

Cheng Zhiwen carried the tray to her bedside table and gave her chopsticks and a spoon: "Here, eat some while it's hot."

Shen Qing took it and first sipped the soup.

As the sweet and sour, thick soup went down her throat, she smiled contentedly at Cheng Zhiwen: "It tastes pretty good, do you want to eat with me?"

There was also a clean set of cutlery on the tray.

Cheng Zhiwen smiled and said, "Okay."

He picked up the small bowl, poured some into it, and began to eat heartily.

Shen Qing slurped his noodles while looking at him and said, "Although this Zhang Ma isn't a very good person, her cooking skills are quite good."

"You don't like her? Then I'll replace her."

Shen Qing smiled, twirling noodles with her chopsticks: "No, no, no, this is someone from your house. There's no need to change them just because I don't like them. But where did you find this person?"

Cheng Zhiwen thought for a while and said, "It was introduced by the old steward from my hometown of Yongzhou. It seems to be his fellow townsman."

Shen Qing nodded, not thinking much of it.

It's common for people from the same hometown to introduce each other.

She finished the whole bowl of noodles, not even leaving a drop of broth. After a hearty meal, she lay in bed, patting her round belly.

Cheng Zhiwen took the tray away and quickly returned, sitting on the edge of the bed watching her.

She felt a little embarrassed by his gaze and turned her back to him.

"Can you get up? I want to show you something."

Shen Qing lazily got up: "What are you looking at?"

Cheng Zhiwen then went around to her side, helped her get off the bed, carefully tied the belt of her robe, and then led her to the window.

The window opened, and a large, round, bright moon hung in the sky.

Shen Qing then remembered that today was the fifteenth of August.

She turned to look at Cheng Zhiwen: "Today is the Mid-Autumn Festival!"

Cheng Zhiwen smiled and hugged her from behind, his arms encircling her slender waist, his chin resting on the top of her head: "Mid-Autumn Festival reunion."

When he spoke, his chin trembled, a tremor that resonated deep within Shen Qing's heart.

She gazed tenderly at the bright moon in the sky: "I rushed back to Jiangzhou yesterday because I wanted to reunite with my family. I've been away for four months, and I'm sure Sulan and Chunju miss me."

After saying that, she looked up at Cheng Zhiwen and asked, "Don't you need to go back to your hometown to reunite with your family?"

"I'll only go back for the Chinese New Year."

Shen Qing nodded, but what she was thinking was that she should go to bed early tonight, check on the factory first thing tomorrow morning, and if there were no problems, rush back to Jiangzhou.

Although I missed the Mid-Autumn Festival, spending the 16th of August with my family will still be wonderful.

Moreover, she wanted to go back as soon as possible to deal with the debt issues with Master Zhao.

Thinking of this, she broke free from Cheng Zhiwen's embrace and went to check her briefcase.

Cheng Zhiwen stood alone by the window, looking at the moon.

After checking the suitcase, Shen Qing went back to bed and pulled the blanket up to cover herself.

"I'll go to the factory first thing tomorrow morning. If everything goes well, I'll head back to Jiangzhou. There are some things I need to take care of back there."

Cheng Zhiwen turned her head to look at her, said nothing, closed the window, and lay down on the bed.

Shen Qing reminded him, "The doctor said I'm not feeling well, so let me get some sleep."

"good."

He tucked her in and lay back down in his own spot.

Sure enough, he behaved himself and didn't bother her all night. After a moment of alertness, Shen Qing drifted off to sleep.

She got up as soon as it was light the next day, quickly washed up, and changed into a loose-fitting jacket and skirt.

When she came out of the dressing room, Cheng Zhiwen was also awake and sat on the bed looking at her.

Seeing that she had changed into a Qing Dynasty jacket and skirt, he was momentarily confused, then waved to her.

Shen Qing inserted the red jeweled hairpin into her hair bun, walked over, and stood in front of him: "What's wrong?"

He looked at her for a while, then said gently, "I have other things to do, so I won't see you back to Jiangzhou."

She smiled and said, "It's nothing."

"Take care of yourself, get plenty of rest, and protect yourself."

"good."

Shen Qing turned to leave, but suddenly remembered the matter that was on her mind, and turned back to look at Cheng Zhiwen.

"I still hope you can leave that organization, become a simple businessman, and love this country and its people."

With tears welling in her eyes, she looked at him and said, "If you become an enemy of this country and its people, I will kill you. I mean it!"

After saying that, he picked up his suitcase and left the room without looking back.

As soon as they stepped out of the villa, Jiang Shen immediately came forward to take the box and put it on the carriage.

Shen Qing lifted her skirt and walked to the carriage, then turned to look towards the master bedroom on the second floor.

Cheng Zhiwen stood behind the window watching her.

She raised her hand and waved to him before getting into the carriage.

Everything was fine at the factory. Cheng Zhiwen had sent more people to strengthen the guard. Even if Schmidt wanted to cause trouble for the factory again, it wouldn't be an easy task.

Shen Qing returned to Jiangzhou with peace of mind.

...

"Boss Shen, we're almost in Jiangzhou territory," Jiang Shen called out from outside the curtain.

Shen Qing pulled back the curtain and looked outside.

Seeing the familiar city gate ahead filled me with excitement.

After being away for four months, I want to go back to see Sulan, Chunju, the Gao family, and Qi Zhenheng.

She recalled that before she left, Qi Zhenheng heard that she was going to England alone and strongly opposed it.

Shen Qing felt she should go and let him know she was safe.

Just then, the carriage suddenly stopped, the horses neighed, and the carriage lurched forward.

Shen Qing was almost thrown out of the car.

She clung tightly to the edge of the small window to avoid being thrown out.

"Jiang Shen, Lao Xu!" she asked weakly, "What happened?"

No sooner had he finished speaking than a series of piercing metallic sounds were heard outside.

It was the sound of a knife being wielded.

Shen Qing remembered the bandits she encountered on her way to Tianjin last time, and her scalp tingled. She hid behind the curtain and quietly opened a crack to look outside.

Jiang Shen was fighting with several men in black, while Old Xu was manipulating the reins to get the horse running again.

The man in black saw through his intentions and rushed over with two men, each wielding a knife, severing both of the horse's front legs.

The horse neighed mournfully, then knelt down and fell to its knees, causing the carriage to lurch forward.

Old Xu stood there stunned for a moment, then immediately turned around and lifted the curtain: "Boss Shen! Let's go! Hurry!"

Shen Qing picked up two suitcases, jumped off the carriage, and followed Old Xu towards the city gate.

There are guards at the city gate; once you enter the city, you'll be safe!

However, the city gate was still quite a distance away. Shen Qing was weak and could only run a few steps before her heart started to ache again, causing her to kneel down in pain.

Seeing the men in black about to attack, Old Xu gritted his teeth, squatted down, and said, "Boss Shen, get on! I'll carry you and run! Quick!"

Shen Qing was in so much pain that she couldn't straighten up and had no chance of climbing onto Lao Xu's back.

She turned back in despair, looking at Jiang Shen, who had also fallen to the ground, and the man in black rushing towards her. She gritted her teeth and used all her strength to stand up.
