After Qi Zhenheng left, Shen Qing did not disembark in San Francisco, but instead headed to New York.
She spent a lot of money to freeze Qi Zhenheng's body, and the body was taken off the ship when it arrived in New York.
Qi Zhenheng was eventually buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
After finishing his funeral, Shen Qing began looking for a house.
The money originally intended for buying a detached house was used up to cover Qi Zhenheng's body freezing and funeral expenses, so they had to change their plans and buy an apartment instead.
Shen Qing bought a two-bedroom apartment in downtown New York City.
Then she began looking for schools for her two children.
The two children are now seven years old and of primary school age. Fortunately, the children started learning English at the age of three, so they were able to enroll in the primary school near their home without any problems.
With the two most important things settled, Shen Qing began planning his business.
She brought the formula for making down jackets and the blueprints for the equipment. Once the factory is up and running, and the equipment and raw materials are in place, it will be able to replicate the Shanghai factory of yesteryear.
She needed to earn money quickly so she could bring it back to China to support the revolution...
But things didn't go so smoothly. The twins, a boy and a girl, had only been in school for a week when they both caught the flu.
In an era where there are no antiviral drugs or anti-inflammatory drugs, and even a minor cold can be fatal, Shen Qing puts aside her work to take care of the children.
Those days were exceptionally difficult. She was terrified that no sooner had Qi Zhenheng passed away than her two children followed suit, so she took care of the children almost without sleep.
Fortunately, the children had strong immune systems, fought off the virus, and eventually recovered.
Shen Qing, who had been taking care of them for half a month, collapsed from exhaustion at this time.
She was already in poor health, and giving birth to her two children at great risk severely damaged her vitality. It took her many years to recover even half of her original health.
Now, having traveled across the ocean to the United States, she is dealing with Qi Zhenheng's funeral, looking for a house and a factory, and taking care of her two sick children. These things are piling up one after another, and unsurprisingly, she has collapsed again.
Lying in bed, watching her young children learn to cook and take care of themselves, she suddenly realized that Qi Zhenheng was truly gone...
When he first arrived, she didn't feel much sadness, only regret that he was so young and hadn't had a chance to enjoy life before leaving.
Even after she finished the funeral and returned to real life, that sense of loss and sorrow suddenly overwhelmed her from every crevice of her life.
She then realized that her husband had left her and her children forever...
Thinking of Qi Zhenheng, Shen Qing was so sad that tears streamed down her face. She turned over so that her two children wouldn't see her crying face.
"Knock knock," someone knocked on the door.
Shen Qing raised her hand to wipe away her tears. Just as she turned over, her two children had already run behind the gate.
They pressed themselves against the door and asked in English, "Who are you looking for?"
Shen Qing didn't hear what the person outside was saying, so she asked her two children, "Who's knocking?"
Cheng An turned around and said, "Mom, it's our neighbor across the hall. He said Easter is coming soon and he's giving us chocolate eggs."
It is true that there is a tradition in the United States to give chocolate eggs for Easter. The neighbors probably gave them chocolates because they have two children.
She nodded: "Cheng An, open the door, and remember to thank them."
Cheng An obediently replied, "I understand, Mother."
He shielded Cheng Xi behind him and carefully unlocked the door.
The door had barely opened a crack when it was forcefully pushed in from the outside.
Cheng An shouted, "Don't push! Don't push!"
Upon hearing this, Shen Qing immediately guessed that the visitor was up to no good and shouted, "Cheng An! Close the door! Quickly!"
She tried to get out of bed, but because she was weak and her legs were too weak, she twisted her ankle and fell to the ground.
"What are you doing!" Cheng Xi suddenly screamed.
Shen Qing looked over with a heavy heart and saw a tall, strong man with a full beard rush in.
He scooped Cheng Xi up in his arms, leering, "Oh my God! This baby is so cute!"
Shen Qing roared, "Let go of my child! Or I'll call the police!"
The man looked over at the sound, and when he saw her beautiful face, his eyes lit up: "So there's another beautiful lady from the East!"
At this moment, Cheng An picked up a small stool next to him, raised it high, and threw it at the man!
But that person was a burly man who was at least two meters tall, and a small chair posed no threat to him at all.
He turned around, holding the struggling and crying Cheng Xi, picked up Cheng An with one hand, and threw him to the ground.
"No!" Shen Qing roared, "No! No!"
Cheng An hit the back of his head on the ground and lost consciousness.
Shen Qing crawled over crying, grabbed the person tightly, and lifted him up to try and guess Cheng An's feet.
The man, holding Cheng Xi, looked at Shen Qing and chuckled, "Tonight I have you, my Eastern beauty," he said, kissing Cheng Xi's cheek, "and this little beauty to keep me company..."
Cheng Xi was so frightened that she burst into tears.
Shen Qing slowly raised her hand to her hair, took out the hairpin knife, and stabbed it into the man's thigh!
The man, in pain, kicked her away.
Her back slammed against the corner of the wall, as if it were about to split her already broken body in two.
She looked dazedly at Cheng Xi, who was being held in the arms of a bad guy, and then at Cheng An, who was lying unconscious to the side. Suddenly, she was filled with despair.
Summoning the last bit of strength in her body, she endured the excruciating pain in her back and crawled toward the person once more.
The man raised his foot, about to stomp on the back of her neck, when the door was suddenly kicked open from the outside.
A man with black hair and yellow skin rushed in. He was thin but agile, and charged straight at the man, placing his right hand on the man's lower back.
“Let go of my child!” he growled.
The man realized there was a gunshot wound in his lower back, and hurriedly put Cheng Xi down, raising his hands in a gesture of surrender.
Cheng Zhiwen quickly shielded the sobbing Cheng Xi behind her.
He glanced at the unconscious Cheng An and Shen Qing, who had been thrown into the corner, and in a fit of rage, he punched the man several times, leaving him bleeding from the head.
Finally, the black gun barrel was pointed directly at the man's forehead, and he warned in English, "If you dare to harass my child again, I'll send you to meet God with one shot! Get lost!"
The man fled in panic.
Cheng Zhiwen closed the door, turned around and immediately picked up Cheng An, put him on the sofa, and then began to check the injuries on the back of his head and body.
Cheng An had no obvious external injuries and no bleeding from the back of his head, but fearing a concussion, Cheng Zhiwen placed him on the sofa and dared not move him again.
He came to see Shen Qing.
He knelt on one knee in front of Shen Qing, his eyes red as he looked at her: "Qing'er, are you hurt anywhere?"
Shen Qing shook her head, sobbing uncontrollably.
He patted her shoulder, helped her lie back on the bed, and only then did he go to see Cheng Xi.
He picked Cheng Xi up, stroked her hair, and asked softly, "Cheng Xi, were you hurt just now? Tell Uncle, and Uncle will take you to see a doctor."
Tears streamed down Cheng Xi's fair face, her big eyes red and swollen. She shook her head and said, "Cheng Xi is fine. But my brother was thrown to the ground and hit his head on the floor. My mother fell off the bed and was kicked."
Judging from her words, Cheng Zhiwen thought Shen Qing should be alright, so he put her back on the sofa and comforted her, "Uncle will go and ask a doctor to come and treat brother now. Cheng Xi, please don't shake brother's body, okay?"
Cheng Xi nodded through her tears.
Cheng Zhiwen glanced back at Shen Qing, who was lying on the bed and looking at her expectantly, nodded to her, and quickly closed the door and left.
