Shen Qing went to open the door.
Two police officers stood outside and showed their identification to Shen Qing: "Hello, ma'am, we have received a report of child abuse here. Please come with us."
Shen Qing was horrified: "Child abuse? How is that possible?"
Cheng Zhiwen also came over, but before he could speak, the police restrained him: "Sir, please come with us."
In an instant, Shen Qing recalled those kidnapping cases where people were arrested with fake documents. He immediately stood between Cheng Zhiwen and the police, protecting Cheng Zhiwen behind him.
"No! You have no evidence; you can't take him away!"
The police officer said sullenly, "We're just taking him to the police station to cooperate with the investigation. The evidence will only be released after we've completed our investigation."
"No!" Shen Qing insisted, "I am the child's mother, and I can prove that he did not abuse the child!"
Upon hearing this, the police exchanged glances and immediately took Cheng Zhiwen away.
Shen Qing quickly took her two children to the police station.
This was her first time visiting a police station in the United States. She had no idea which department to go to to find Cheng Zhiwen. After running around for several hours and asking many departments, she finally found the department where Cheng Zhiwen was being held.
She took the children to explain to the police officer in charge, but no matter what she said, the officer just wouldn't believe her, saying that someone had witnessed Cheng Zhiwen doing something indecent to Cheng Xi.
Shen Qing exclaimed excitedly after hearing this, "He is the child's father, how could he do such a thing!"
The police did not accept this.
They believed that Shen Qing was protecting her boyfriend.
After all that fuss, it was almost dawn.
Shen Qing was exhausted, both physically and mentally, and her two children had also been running around with her all night without sleeping.
She could only bring the two children home at dawn, make them breakfast, and let them eat their fill before they went to rest.
Unable to leave her home, she could only sit in the living room and relive the memory of Cheng Zhiwen's abduction.
If this had happened in China, she would have suspected that Cheng Zhiwen's rivals had sent someone to frame him. But this was America, and they lived in an inconspicuous little apartment in New York. How could Cheng Zhiwen's rivals have the power to collude with the local police to frame him?
And they used such a vicious reason as child abuse.
Shen Qing really couldn't understand it.
She dozed off on the sofa for a while, then woke up again and saw the children's homework books from the night before still on the table. She started to tidy them up.
As I finished reading, I suddenly remembered that my teacher had visited my home last night, and soon after he left, he would frequently come to visit.
She seemed to have figured something out, and got up to sit in the seat where the teacher had sat the night before.
Across from them, Cheng Zhiwen, who was holding Cheng Xi, seemed to still be sitting there.
Shen Qing suddenly guessed who had called the police.
She took the children to school in the afternoon.
The teacher happened to be at the school gate seeing the children off after school. Shen Qing led Cheng An and Cheng Xi forward and explained, "Teacher, did you call the police?"
The teacher gave her a troubled look, took her aside, away from the children, and gently advised, "Cathy's mother, I am also a mother of a girl. I think that for Cathy's physical and mental health, you should leave that man."
Shen Qing said, both amused and exasperated, "Teacher, he... the Mr. Cheng you met last night, he is Cathy's father, her biological father."
The teacher clearly didn't believe it.
The children used to call him uncle, and Shen Qing himself had admitted that the children's father had passed away, and this man was his uncle.
She believed that Shen Qing lied and gave false testimony to protect her boyfriend, who had a history of child abuse.
The teacher was a little angry, shook her head, and turned back to the school gate.
She crouched down, looked at Cheng Xi, and said something to Cheng Xi, but Shen Qing didn't hear it.
On the way back, I asked Cheng Xi, and Cheng Xi honestly replied:
"The teacher said that if the uncle touches me, hugs me, or kisses me again, I should tell her anytime."
Shen Qing sighed and looked up at the sky.
She knew the teacher meant well for Cheng Xi, but Cheng Zhiwen was still at the police station. What should she do?
She took the children home, planning to have dinner before going to the police station to see Cheng Zhiwen.
Cheng Xi said, "Mother, my brother and I would like to say a few words to the police officer, is that alright?"
Shen Qing knew that the children wanted to plead for Cheng Zhiwen.
Even though she knew it was pointless, she couldn't bear to refuse the children, so she led them back to the police station.
After finding the presiding officer and explaining their purpose, the officer invited the two children into his office.
Shen Qing waited outside.
Through the small transparent glass in the door, she saw her two children sitting in front of the police officer, speaking to him neither humbly nor arrogantly, while the officer nodded frequently.
More than an hour later, the two children came out.
The police officer asked Shen Qing to stand aside to talk, and Shen Qing quickly followed.
"Madam, your children have testified that the suspect is their biological father, and we have accepted their testimony. However, we still have to remind you that even biological fathers and daughters should not have overly intimate physical contact."
Shen Qing explained, "I've always taken care of my daughter myself. I pay more attention to this than anyone else. Last night, I was busy, and my daughter had burned her leg and was having trouble walking, which is why her father had to carry her out of the bathroom. She was wearing all her clothes at the time, which the teacher can confirm."
