Imperial palace in the suburbs of Beijing.
"Your Majesty, Physician Xu has arrived," came the announcement from outside the door.
Jing Xi, supporting Jiang Bai, glanced warily at the door and nodded gently to Ji Mosheng. Only then did Ji Mosheng speak, "Please invite Physician Xu in."
Squeak~
The door was pushed open from the outside, and Physician Xu slowly walked in with his medicine box. He saw an unfamiliar young woman supporting an injured young man in the Empress Dowager's palace, and an idea came to him. He gently placed the medicine box on the ground and said, "Your humble servant Xu Qi greets Your Majesty the Empress Dowager and Prince Sheng."
"Please rise, Physician Xu. Yesterday, I accidentally cut myself with a hairpin. I wonder if you have any wound medicine?" the Empress Dowager asked from the head seat.
Having practiced medicine in the palace for so many years, Physician Xu was no fool. Although he knew this was an excuse the Empress Dowager had made for the young master, he had to pretend to understand her meaning and hurriedly said, "Yes, Your Majesty, I have brought some wound medicine." After speaking, he quickly took out two bottles of wound medicine from his box and handed them to the palace maid beside him.
"Yes, Physician Xu, go and examine that young master," the Empress Dowager said, looking at Jiang Bai in Jing Xi's arms.
"Yes, Your Majesty." Imperial Physician Xu stood up and walked to Jing Xi's side. He took Jiang Bai's right hand to check his pulse, and then said, "This young master has too many external injuries, which has caused a fever. His condition is not good. We must apply medicine to him as soon as possible and prepare antipyretics for him to take."
Seeing Jiang Bai's pained frown, Jing Xi anxiously reached out and touched Jiang Bai's forehead. It was getting hotter and hotter. She looked anxiously at the Empress Dowager.
The Empress Dowager nodded, signaling the palace maid to give the medicine to Jing Xi. Then, she said to Physician Xu, "Then I'll have to trouble Physician Xu."
Physician Xu hurriedly knelt down and said, "It is my honor to be able to examine Your Majesty." After saying that, he got up to prepare medicine for Jiang Bai.
Xu Qing had only taken a few steps when Ji Mosheng stopped him, saying, "Imperial Physician Xu, today you were preparing medicine for the Empress Dowager." The implication was that he had not seen Jing Xi and Jiang Bai in the palace that day.
Xu Qing wasn't stupid either, and said, "Her Majesty the Empress Dowager is slightly unwell, and Prince Sheng is showing her filial piety by attending to her at her bedside. I will go down now to prepare medicine for Her Majesty the Empress Dowager."
Ji Mosheng nodded, and Xu Qing then left. After he left, the Empress Dowager said, "I didn't sleep a wink last night, I'm going to rest for a while."
"Yes, Mother, please go and rest." Ji Mosheng said.
"The Empress Dowager's health is of utmost importance," Jing Xi added.
The Empress Dowager glanced at the two of them and then left.
After the Empress Dowager left, Jing Xi prepared to apply medicine to Jiang Bai, but Jiang Bai stopped her, saying softly, "Jing Xi, no, we are not married yet, you can't do this, it's not good for you."
Jing Xi was also a little anxious. She slapped Jiang Bai's hand away and said, "What time is it? You still care about these things? You're about to die. I don't care. Be good, I'll put the medicine on you."
Jing Xi reached out to pull open Jiang Bai's clothes to apply medicine to him, but Ji Mosheng snatched the wound medicine from her hand and said, "Miss Jing, let me apply the medicine for Young Master Jiang." Ji Mosheng looked at Jing Xi seriously and said.
Jiang Bai nodded in agreement. He gently patted Jing Xi's hand and said, "Go, Jing Xi." Then, Jiang Bai turned to look at Ji Mosheng and said, "Then I'll trouble Prince Sheng to apply the medicine for me."
Jing Xi nodded, relieved to see someone applying medicine to Jiang Bai. She turned and left, leaving the room for them.
After Jing Xi left, Ji Mosheng applied the wound medicine to Jiang Bai. The two looked at each other in silence. Logically speaking, they were rivals in love.
Ji Mosheng spoke first: "Jiang Bai, can you protect Jing Xi for the rest of your life?"
Jiang Bai paused for a moment upon hearing Ji Mosheng's question, then chuckled softly and said, "I don't know what kind of protection Your Highness is referring to. If it's about protecting her in a fight, then it's most likely Jing Xi protecting me. However, I can stay with Jing Xi; wherever she wants to go, I will be with her." He silently added in his heart, "If he can cure the poison within a month, then I will stay with Jing Xi for all eternity, loving her, protecting her, respecting her, and understanding her."
After hearing Jiang Bai's answer, Ji Mosheng remained silent. He probably understood why Jing Xi chose Jiang Bai over him. Jing Xi loved freedom, and Jiang Bai could give her that freedom.
So it's not that Ji Mosheng isn't good enough, but that he's not a good fit.
As long as he lives, he will have to consider the future of Da Yin. He cannot give Jing Xi the freedom she wants, so the two of them are ultimately impossible.
After applying the medicine to Jiang Bai, Ji Mosheng sighed and murmured, "So be it, so be it, the moon doesn't belong to me." However, the pain in his heart was like being cut by a knife, so painful that it was difficult to breathe.
Ji Mosheng felt that he would lose his composure if he stayed any longer, so he stood up and said, "Young Master Jiang, please rest well. I'll be leaving now."
"Alright, thank you, Your Highness," Jiang Bai said.
As soon as Ji Mosheng opened the door, he saw Jing Xi leaning against the wall, dozing off. He was startled awake as soon as he opened the door. Jing Xi rubbed her eyes and said, "Thank you, Your Highness, for applying the medicine to Jiang Bai. I'll go see how Jiang Bai is."
As she was about to go inside, Ji Mosheng called out to her, "Jing Xi."
Jing Xi stopped and turned to look at Ji Mosheng in confusion. Ji Mosheng opened his mouth, but finally said, "It's nothing. You should go and see Young Master Jiang."
Jing Xi nodded, closed the door, shutting everything out. As soon as the door closed, Jing Xi looked at Ji Mosheng's figure outside with guilt and whispered, "I'm sorry." She couldn't give him any promises, nor could she give him happiness, so she had no choice but to do this.
Ji Mosheng stood outside for a long time. When he turned around, he saw his mother standing behind him. He didn't know what to say, so he could only say, "Your Majesty, your son..."
"You like Miss Jing?" the Empress Dowager asked directly.
Ji Mosheng glanced at his mother, then nodded and said, "Yes, Your Majesty, I like her."
The Empress Dowager sighed and said, "Alas, my foolish child." She could see that Jing Xi liked the injured Young Master Jiang, while her son was only in unrequited love.
Fine, let the children handle their own affairs; she won't interfere.
"Sheng'er, come with me, your mother has something to say."
