Chapter 97 Yan Wan and Jing Xi meet!

"What?" Ji Mosheng was so shocked that he stood up from his chair.

“Master of the Li family, do you know that the crime of deceiving the emperor is punishable by the extermination of nine generations of your family?” Ji Mosheng said in a deep voice.

“Every word I have said is true. Prince An is indeed still alive. He did not die back then, but has been hiding in the Li family.” After Li Shu finished speaking in one breath, he felt a great sense of relief. The secret that had been kept hidden for so long was finally about to see the light of day.

"Patriarch of the Li family, do you know that these words are enough to bring the Li family to ruin forever?"

"Your Majesty, I understand," Li Shu said with a sigh of relief, his eyes closed.

"Does Major General Li Shang know that you have come to Yunzhou City?" Ji Mosheng asked abruptly.

Li Shu paused for a moment, then continued, "That child doesn't know I'm here. This old minister has risked his life to come and tell Your Highness this news, hoping that Your Highness will plead for me. If Your Majesty blames me, I hope that I can bear all the responsibility myself and not implicate innocent people."

"Alright, I promise you, I will do my best to protect Lijia." Ji Mosheng pondered for a moment before making his promise.

"Your Highness, this old minister has another piece of news to report. That is, the Emperor An is colluding with the Mongol Kingdom, intending to use the Mongol Kingdom to help him ascend to the throne," Li Shu continued.

Now, he can finally avenge Ge'er. He has waited for so many years, and he can finally deliver a fatal blow to Ji Mo'an at the most crucial moment of his plan, dragging him into the abyss when his grand scheme is about to succeed and he is full of hope.

This is revenge on him for using Ge'er!

That beast! He knew perfectly well that Ge'er liked him, yet he still went so far as to send Ge'er into the palace to help him win over the emperor and make her work for him, all for his own purposes.

They saw this and were anxious. By chance, he discovered that Jiang Yan, the son of the richest man in Jiangnan, was in love with Ge'er. Helpless, he could only marry Ge'er off to Jiangnan so that she could stay away from the whirlpool of leaving home.

Unexpectedly, Ge'er only lived for four years after going to Jiangnan before passing away.

"Outrageous! This is utterly audacious!" Ji Mosheng slammed his hand on the table and shouted angrily.

Upon seeing the Crown Prince's fury, Li Shu hurriedly knelt down.

Ji Mosheng calmed himself down and continued, "What else do you know? Tell me the truth."

"Yes, this old minister will certainly speak frankly and without reservation."

——

"Jingxi, we've been traveling for almost a whole night. We should be close to the place Manager Sun mentioned. Let's rest for a while," Jiang Bai said gently. Jingxi's lips were pale; she was probably already at her limit.

“Okay, let’s rest in the woods ahead. It’ll be good to have some shelter from the wind. We can make a fire and roast a couple of sweet potatoes. Are you hungry?” Jing Xi nodded, accepting Jiang Bai’s suggestion.

"I'm not hungry, let's go." Jiang Bai took Jing Xi's horse reins and her hand, and the two walked together towards the woods.

Before long, Jiang Bai started a fire. This place was close to Yunzhou City, and the refugees had all fled to Yunzhou City and the capital for refuge, so there were no refugees to be seen on this road.

Jing Xi cautiously looked around, and only relaxed after finding no threat. She looked at Jiang Bai, who was earnestly roasting sweet potatoes, and said, "Thank you, Jiang Bai, for coming with me to find Wan'er."

Jiang Bai put down the sweet potato in his hand, took Jing Xi's hand with one hand, and gently brushed the leaves that had fallen on Jing Xi's head with the other, saying softly, "Jing Xi, there's no need for thanks between us. Besides, Manager Yan is not only your friend, but also my friend. It's only right that I come out with you to look for him."

Jing Xi looked at the gentle Jiang Bai and said softly, "Jiang Bai, you are so good to me, I don't know how to repay you."

Jiang Bai smiled helplessly and said, "Jing Xi, you don't need to repay me. I did all of this willingly."

Jiang Bai believes that if you like someone, you should give her everything without any emotional fluctuations, treat her well, pamper her, and stay with her.

He loves Jingxi, so he is willing and happy to do so.

Jing Xi smiled; she felt she hadn't made the wrong choice. She would be happy marrying Jiang Bai. Sometimes she thought, if she couldn't go back, spending her life with Jiang Bai like this wouldn't be so bad.

If, as Wan'er said, she were to marry Ji Mosheng and be trapped in the deep palace for the rest of her life, she would break down.

"Jiang Bai, let's go sightseeing after we've sorted things out here! Okay?" Jing Xi suggested.

“Okay, you can go wherever you want.” Jiang Bai agreed to everything.

——

"Hanhan, I'm going out to chop some firewood. We should leave after we finish breakfast," Yan Wan said softly.

"Okay, don't go too far, be careful, and don't get hurt," Ji Mohan instructed worriedly.

"Okay!" Yan Wan nodded and walked out of the cave.

She walked towards the woods next to the cave, intending to gather some firewood. Before she even reached the woods, Yan Wan saw a fire in the distance and some hoofprints on the path. Yan Wan instantly became alert. She quietly took out a dagger from her spatial storage and slowly approached the fire.

She went to see who was there and what the danger was. Even if she was discovered, she could hide in her spatial dimension. Since she was alone, no one would see her.

Yan Wan moved quietly and slowly approached. She gently parted the grass and saw two people roasting something with their backs to her. She understood what was going on and gently let go of the grass, preparing to go back. However, her elbow broke a tree branch.

Jing Xi heard a slight noise. She picked up her sword and said fiercely, "Who's there? Get out here now!"

Jing Xi picked up a branch from the ground and stuck it directly into the withered grass behind the tree. The branch flew right past Yan Wan's eyes, and she vaguely thought she heard Jing Xi's voice. Yan Wan stood up uncertainly and called out, "Jing Xi, is that you?"

Jing Xi paused, her hand poised to draw her sword and stab. She looked up at the bushes and saw Yan Wan standing up. She stared at Yan Wan in disbelief, and Yan Wan looked back at her with surprise.

"Wan'er, is it really you? I thought I misheard. Why are you here all alone? I didn't hurt you, did I?" Jing Xi worriedly pulled Yan Wan's arm and circled her around. She breathed a sigh of relief only after seeing that Yan Wan was unharmed.

“Jingxi, I’m fine. I’m with the Prince. He’s in the cave ahead. I came here to gather some firewood, and I didn’t expect to run into you! Weren’t you in Yunzhou City? How come you’re here now?” Yan Wan asked.

Jing Xi gently poked Yan Wan's forehead and said, "I heard you were missing, so I came out to look for you."
