Ji Mohan and Yan Wan, on the other hand, were in perfect harmony. Ji Mohan was reading a military treatise, while Yan Wan was lost in thought.
Suddenly, Yan Wan seemed to realize something and asked, "Hanhan, do you think we've fallen into someone's trap?"
Everything today is strange. It's as if everything has gone too smoothly since they entered the city, as if it were all arranged by someone else.
“Yes, you’re right. But it’s alright. They must have a reason for letting us in. They won’t touch us easily until they achieve their goal,” Ji Mohan said calmly.
"Okay, that's good. My heart is always racing," Yan Wan said worriedly.
Since entering Huangzhou, the system has disappeared. No matter how I call it, there is no response. Could it be related to Jimo An?
After all, Ji Mo'an is a character who can continue to exist in the book even after leaving the plot, which is really illogical.
Yan Wan always seemed to have drifted out of the storyline, but at every important juncture, the plot would still continue, which was very puzzling.
Seeing Yan Wan's furrowed brows, Ji Mohan put down his book, walked over, and gently hugged her, whispering, "Yan Wan, don't be afraid. I'm here. I'm your strongest support. No matter what happens, I will always protect you." Ji Mohan made this promise earnestly. He rarely made promises to others, but once he did, he would do everything in his power to keep them.
"Yes, I know, Hanhan." Yan Wan nodded and said. She had never doubted Ji Mohan's love.
In the original book, Ji Mohan loved Jing Xi. He was obsessive and possessive. In the end, he was unwilling to go against Jing Xi's wishes and let her leave. In the end, he died alone on the battlefield to atone for his sins.
Even though he was betrayed, deceived, hated, and disliked by many people, he still maintained a pure heart in the end. He fought to protect the people and the country, and died on the battlefield to defend the country. In fact, he never lived a day for himself.
His love was domineering and obsessive, his emotions were passionate and fiery, sincere and courageous. Despite being abandoned repeatedly, he still refused to give up on saving the people of Yin.
"Ji Mohan, if—and I mean if—you have to promise me one thing first. We made a bet before, and I won. Do you remember?" Yan Wan asked, looking into Ji Mohan's eyes.
"I remember." Ji Mohan nodded gently and looked at Yan Wan as he spoke.
“Okay, then the first thing I need you to promise me is this.” Yan Wan shook Ji Mohan’s arm and said.
"Okay, I agree." Ji Mohan answered without hesitation. No matter what it was, he would agree to Yan Wan's request.
Ji Mohan hadn't expected that he truly couldn't do the last thing, yet he still agreed to Yan Wan's request. That matter had caused him immense pain and regret; he shouldn't have agreed.
"The first thing is that no matter what happens, you must always love yourself first," Yan Wan said firmly.
In Ji Mohan's heart, he loved his country, his people, and his soldiers, but he always put himself last and forgot to love himself.
Ji Mohan hadn't expected Yan Wan to make such a condition. What a silly girl! She had three chances to ask him to do anything, but she still wasted them on him.
He doesn't actually deserve Yan Wan's kindness towards him.
But Yan Wan felt that Ji Mohan was the best person in the world, and the person she should cherish the most.
“These three requests are what I have agreed to. Why don’t you make any other requests?” Ji Mohan asked.
"But that's all I ask for. I hope you're happy, joyful, healthy, safe, and live a long life," Yan Wan said with a smile. As long as Ji Mohan is alright, she'll be content, and then her arrival will have been meaningful.
"Then that doesn't count. Can I still ask you for three things?" Ji Mohan asked softly.
Yan Wan shook her head and said, "No need, Hanhan. I don't have any wishes. My biggest wish is that you can live to be a hundred years old."
Ji Mohan lowered his head and kissed the top of Yan Wan's head. He was so lucky to have met such a silly girl who loved him wholeheartedly.
"It's getting late, let's get some rest," Yan Wan suggested. She had been on edge for the past few days and hadn't slept well for several nights, so she was feeling sleepy.
Ji Mohan nodded to Yan Wan and said, "Alright, let's sleep together. I'll come over after I've packed up my books."
"Okay, I'll wait for you." Yan Wan said with a smile. This kind of life was simple and happy, which was what she had always dreamed of. Now that it was real, it scared her. She was afraid that one day all of this would disappear.
Ji Mohan walked to the desk, tidied up the surface, then took off his clothes and went to the bedside, where he held Yan Wan and fell asleep.
Yan Wan hugged Ji Mohan to sleep. Not long after they fell asleep, Ji Mohan heard footsteps on the roof. He opened his eyes abruptly, sat up, and gently patted Yan Wan awake.
Yan Wan looked at Ji Mohan with sleepy eyes, her face full of confusion as to why he had woken her up.
Ji Mohan said softly, "Someone's coming."
Yan Wan immediately shook off her drowsiness, sat up, and looked around warily. Ji Mohan got up and stood by the bed. Yan Wan also got up and hid behind Ji Mohan, secretly looking around.
They've only been here for two days, and some people are already making a move. The people of Huangzhou really can't hold their temper.
Ji Mo coldly said, "Your Excellency has arrived, why don't you come out and meet me?"
As soon as he finished speaking, a man in black emerged from the shadows of the room. Ji Mohan stared at the man in black as he walked out. It seemed that the man in front of him was not to be underestimated, as he had managed to hide in the room without being discovered.
Yan Wan also saw the man in black who suddenly appeared, and she took a step back in surprise.
Ji Mohan sensed Yan Wan's fear and gently squeezed her small hand to comfort her.
