Chapter 39 If only Your Highness would always protect me

Prince Han's Mansion.

In the still of the night, countless stars dotted the sky, and a crescent moon cast a soft, warm glow across the ground.

Yan Wan lay on her back in bed, looking at the moon outside the window. Although she was sleepy, her mind was becoming increasingly clear as she plotted her future path.

——

"System, are you there?"

"Host, I'm here!"

"How do you obtain the life-changing talisman you mentioned before? Is it only through completing quests?"

"Yes, host. Once the task is completed, the system will issue a reward to you."

"Does this life-changing talisman have a specific mission?"

"No, it's distributed randomly, the system isn't sure either."

"Get out of here, what use are you!" Yan Wan said disappointedly.

Yan Wan sighed.

Yan Wan was furious.

Yan Wan tossed and turned in bed.

Yan Wan's movements on the bed were so loud that Ji Mohan, who was pretending to be asleep with his eyes closed on the floor, had to turn his head to look.

"What's wrong? Can't sleep?" A somber voice came from the ground.

"I'm sorry, Your Highness, did I disturb you?" Yan Wan asked apologetically.

"Nothing's wrong. Are you preoccupied tonight? Why aren't you asleep yet?"

Yan Wan sat up abruptly, thought for a moment, then leaned over the edge of the bed, her body on the bed with her head and right hand dangling over the edge, and said with distress, "Yes, there are some things I don't know how to do."

"If you don't know what to do, just do it as you feel like it," Ji Mohan offered a sincere suggestion.

"What if you don't know how to choose either?" Yan Wan murmured to herself.

Ji Mohan remained silent, whether he hadn't heard clearly or not.

Yan Wan patted her dazed head, realizing she didn't know what to do. Wasn't the person in question right there? Just ask them!

Yan Wan thought she was a genius!

"Your Highness, are you asleep?" Yan Wan asked in a low voice.

"No." A cool and deep voice came, full of magnetism, so beautiful it would make your ears pregnant.

"Your Highness, I want to ask you something. If you knew someone's ultimate fate, would you choose to tell them?" Yan Wan asked tentatively.

"Was the outcome good or bad?" Ji Mohan asked rhetorically.

"Not good," Yan Wan said dejectedly. What if she was unlucky and didn't draw the life-changing talisman when Ji Mohan died?

Yan Wan's head throbbed with pain at the thought of this. Oh God, what should she do?

"Whether this person had a good life or not, if he had a good life, even if the ending was bad, he could probably accept it," Ji Mohan said, expressing his opinion.

"Okay, thank you, Your Highness, I understand." Yan Wan dared not say anything more. Ji Mohan was too smart; she was afraid that if she said too much, he would guess what she was doing.

Ji Mohan, this person's life was not good, and his ending was not good either. Only I know this. How can I tell you?

Since the choice is in my hands, I'll choose not to tell you. Fate is indeed unchangeable. I hope you can feel a little sweetness in your limited time.

"Your Highness, may I ask you one more question? Is this the last one?" Yan Wan asked again.

Ji Mohan was still pondering: Whose fate did Yan Wan know? What made her so conflicted? Was that person important to her? Yan Wan didn't want to tell that person; perhaps that person's fate wasn't good.

"Yes, go ahead." Ji Mohan replied, pulling himself out of his thoughts. He would have Li Shang investigate who Yan Wan had been in contact with recently.

"Hmm... what if someone coerces me into doing something bad?" Yan Wan asked worriedly, afraid that the plot would detect her bug and force her to do something detrimental.

"You were coerced?" Ji Mohan's voice suddenly rose.

"No, no, I was just curious and asking," Yan Wan quickly explained.

"Yes, you are safe in the Han Prince's mansion and will not be harmed," Ji Mohan said softly to comfort him.

"Will Your Highness protect me?" Yan Wan asked expectantly, voicing her true feelings.

"We'll see. If you don't have any bad intentions, I'll protect you," Ji Mohan said coldly.

Now that she has married him, she is the Princess Consort of Han. As long as Yan Wan stays quietly in the Han Prince's mansion, he will protect her.

"I definitely don't have any bad intentions. I married you because I like you, I..." Yan Wan hurriedly explained, but suddenly realized what she had said. She quickly covered her head with the blanket, not daring to listen to Ji Mohan's words, afraid that he would be angry and think that she had ulterior motives.

After a long time, so long that the room was completely silent, Yan Wan didn't hear any movement. She assumed that Ji Mohan had fallen asleep, so she quietly poked her head out from under the covers, breathed in the fresh air, breathed a sigh of relief, and softly called out, "Ji Mohan, are you asleep?"

"Jimo is cold, so cold."

After calling out four or five times without any response from Ji Mohan, Yan Wan finally breathed a sigh of relief.

However, a martial artist is easily awakened by the slightest disturbance, so how could he not hear her shouting so loudly? It's just that he didn't want to respond, or, more accurately, he was afraid to respond to her feelings.

How could someone who has been in the abyss for a long time not yearn for the light? They just feel they are not worthy of it.

"Ji Mohan, Ji Mohan, are you telling the truth? As long as I don't have any bad intentions, you will protect me. I wish Your Highness would always protect me." Yan Wan said to herself.

Yan Wan tossed and turned for a long time, but she didn't make much noise. She turned over gently, afraid of waking Ji Mohan again, especially since she had just said that she liked him. If he woke up, she didn't know how to face him, and whether he would hate her.

Her mind was filled with all sorts of wild thoughts, keeping Yan Wan awake until the moon was high in the sky, at which point she finally fell asleep.

"Ji Mohan, you'll regret it if you don't like me!" Yan Wanchao shouted loudly. Then, she turned over and went back to sleep.

"Heh, talking in your sleep with such self-righteousness." The person on the ground sat up, walked to the bedside, looked at the sleeping woman, and slowly placed his hand on her delicate neck. "Do you know the last person who threatened me? He was torn to pieces by me. You're so delicate, a light pinch and your neck will break." Ji Mohan said sinisterly, a bloodthirsty smile on his face.

His hand tightened, trying to strangle Yan Wan. Yan Wan also felt her breathing become labored, so she rubbed her face against Ji Mohan's arm, acting like a pitiful little kitten.

His hand suddenly loosened, gently touching Yan Wan's small face. It was indeed very soft, like the finest silk. Ji Mohan lowered his head and pressed his forehead against Yan Wan's, saying dangerously and seductively, "Yan Wan, you'd better not lie to me, or I'll strangle you."

The two were very close, and Yan Wan, who was fast asleep, was completely unaware. Instead, she smacked her lips and gently touched the corner of Ji Mohan's mouth.

"Heh, what a vixen." Ji Mohan's eyes swirled with dark light as he sneered.

Yan Wan, as long as you don't lie to me, I will protect you.
