Chapter 90 [VIP]
Chapter Summary: Attendant.
When Yu Jing woke up the next day, she looked at the top of the tent and sighed. She felt nervous at the thought of going to Xie Xuan's palace to serve him. She didn't know how Xie Xuan would treat her.
Yu Jing dawdled as she finished washing and dressing, then got up and went to Taiwei Yuqing Palace. When she arrived at the palace gate, she saw Mu Qing already waiting there.
"Fairy Yu Jing." Mu Qing stepped forward first to greet Yu Jing.
"Immortal Lord Mu Qing." Yu Jing bowed and greeted Mu Qing, "Your Majesty has not yet risen. Fairy Yu Jing, please come with me first."
Yu Jing nodded and followed Mu Qing inside. When they arrived at a bedroom, Mu Qing opened the door and led Yu Jing in: "Fairy, this is your residence in Yuqing Palace. Please tell me if you need anything."
Yu Jing glanced at the furnishings in the room and quickly waved her hand, saying, "It's already very good. Thank you for your trouble, Immortal Lord."
Upon hearing this, Mu Qing lowered her brows and replied, "Not at all, Fairy Yu Jing is too polite. These are all instructions from the Heavenly Lord."
Xie Xuan? Yu Jing's brow twitched, and her gaze fell on the clothes and jewelry placed on the low table.
"And what are these?" Yu Jing asked, pointing to the objects with some confusion.
“These were also ordered by the Heavenly Lord to be prepared for the fairy,” Mu Qing said directly. “The moon-colored flowing fairy dress with wide sleeves, the water-colored crimson robe with wide sleeves, and the pearls on it. And this one, a robe with wide sleeves made of gilded light cloud satin woven by the Weaver Girl. This is a mother-of-pearl pendant from the Western Sea, and this is…”
After Mu Qing finished her introduction, she said to Yu Jing, "Fairy, you may choose one you like to change into, and you may also take any of the jewelry around you. If you find it troublesome, I can call two fairy maidens to serve you."
Hearing Mu Qing say this, Yu Jing felt a little confused and finally couldn't help but interrupt him, saying, "Immortal Lord Mu Qing, I am just here to serve Your Majesty."
"Please change, Fairy. This is His Majesty's order," Mu Qing replied, then turned and left, leaving Yu Jing staring blankly at the pile of clothes in the hall. Since Mu Qing had said so, Yu Jing didn't stand on ceremony. Her favorite was naturally the Shuihua Zhu set, paired with a mother-of-pearl pendant from the Western Sea. Yu Jing glanced at herself in the bronze mirror, as if she saw Sheng Hua's image. She had experienced the latter half of Sheng Hua's life; in truth, she was both Sheng Hua and Yu Jing. Those two years she had endured were indelible for her.
Yu Jing stepped out, and Mu Qing, who was waiting at the door, was slightly taken aback when she saw Yu Jing come out: "Fairy, please come with me."
Yu Jing followed quietly behind Mu Qing. Mu Qing stopped in front of the bedroom next to her and called out, "Your Majesty, Fairy Yu Jing has arrived."
Yu Jing was stunned, turning back to look at her bedroom in disbelief. She stepped forward and whispered to Mu Qing, "Immortal Lord Mu Qing, isn't my bedroom a little too close to Your Majesty's?"
Before Mu Qing could respond, Xie Xuan's voice came from inside: "Come in."
"Yes." Mu Qing glanced at Yu Jing. "Fairy Yu Jing, please go in."
"Immortal Lord Mu Qing...aren't you coming along?" Yu Jing asked tentatively.
Mu Qing smiled and said, "Serving the emperor is enough for one person."
"Ah?" Yu Jing nodded slightly awkwardly, stopped at the door, and paused as she reached out her hand. The next second, the door was opened by Mu Qing. "Please come in, Fairy Yu Jing."
Yu Jing took a deep breath and stepped inside. This was her first time in Xie Xuan's bedroom. The room was unscented and simply decorated. Snow-white curtains hung down, and through the hazy curtains, Yu Jing could see figures moving slightly inside.
"Your Majesty," Yu Jing called softly.
"Come in," Xie Xuan replied.
Yu Jing reached out and lifted the tent flap to walk inside. The first thing she saw was Xie Xuan's fair chest. She turned slightly to the side and stammered, "Your...Your Majesty."
Although we've seen them all, it's still not very proper etiquette.
"It's alright," Xie Xuan said to Yu Jing, adjusting his clothes.
Yu Jing then walked to Xie Xuan's side, and Xie Xuan looked at Yu Jing and said, "Help me change my clothes first."
Yu Jing was a little troubled, because Zhe Lan had never taught her these things from childhood to adulthood!
"Your Majesty, I am a humble immortal, and I am not very good at this," Yu Jing said somewhat embarrassedly.
"Just put it on me."
Since Xie Xuan had already said so, it would be unreasonable for Yu Jing to refuse again. So she walked to the shelf, picked up Xie Xuan's clothes, and returned to Xie Xuan. Xie Xuan had already raised his hands, so Yu Jing put the clothes on him and then tied his belt.
Yu Jing held the belt and wrapped it around Xie Xuan from behind to the front. Her hand gently touched his waist, and Xie Xuan felt it, his breath catching in his throat. Looking down, he saw Yu Jing carefully fastening the belt for him.
Before she could react, Yu Jing had already looked up. Seeing Xie Xuan staring at her, she took a small, embarrassed step back. Suddenly remembering the clothes and jewelry in the bedroom, she asked, "This humble fairy has something she wishes to ask Your Majesty?"
Xie Xuan looked up at her, gesturing for her to ask.
"I heard from Immortal Mu Qing that the bedroom, as well as those clothes and jewelry, were prepared by His Majesty?"
"Yes," Xie Xuan replied straightforwardly.
"Why did Your Majesty give me all this? I'm just here to serve at Yuqing Palace, this is far too precious," Yu Jing asked, puzzled.
"I think Fairy Yu Jing would look even more beautiful in those clothes and jewelry," Xie Xuan said, clearly trying to change the subject. But Yu Jing blushed considerably upon hearing this. After all, Xie Xuan's face was still the same—the most handsome man in the entire realm. How could she not blush?
"The fairy has not eaten yet, has she? Let's have breakfast together."
"Okay." Yu Jing responded, and Xie Xuan called Mu Qing in. Then, the fairy maids carrying breakfast filed in.
Small wontons, glutinous rice cakes, osmanthus sugar cakes, and lotus flower pastries are all her favorite foods.
Yu Jing looked at Xie Xuan suspiciously. This was nothing like the service she had imagined. It wasn't like she had come to serve Xie Xuan; she had clearly come to Yuqing Palace to enjoy herself.
"Let's have a meal," Xie Xuan said, seeing Yu Jing standing there in a daze.
"Oh," Yu Jing replied, picking up her chopsticks. Although something unusual must be amiss, Xie Xuan was now the Heavenly Emperor, and besides, they were still in the Heavenly Court. At worst, there was always Ze Lan and the Old Man of the Moon.
Yu Jing took a bite of the glutinous rice cake, but it was too big and difficult to chew. She didn't even know how she choked. Her face turned completely red from coughing.
Seeing this, Xie Xuan quickly performed a hand seal, and Yu Jing immediately felt better, though she was still a little dazed. Her face was still red, and Xie Xuan subconsciously reached out to help Yu Jing pat her back to help her catch her breath: "Are you alright?"
"Mmm." Yu Jing nodded, then stiffened slightly when she noticed Xie Xuan's hand behind her back. For some reason, Xie Xuan gave her a very familiar feeling, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
After breakfast, Xie Xuan took Yu Jing to the study. He didn't ask her to do anything, but gave her a plate of snacks, a cup of tea, and a book, and asked her to sit in the seat next to him.
Yu Jing had read many books during her time at Shenghua and was already used to it, so she could sit for quite a while with a book in hand. However, Xie Xuan was busy processing official documents at his desk and would not move for most of the day. Yu Jing got bored of reading and her thoughts wandered, so she couldn't help but look at Xie Xuan.
With delicate features, a high nose bridge, black hair, and red lips, Yu Jing looked at him and inexplicably recalled the scene of them whispering sweet nothings in Jinzhu Town.
"Your Majesty the Empress Dowager... Your humble servant... has been rude."
"Magpie...can you call out to your husband?"
Yu Jing suddenly felt extremely hot and quickly looked away, fanning herself with her hand. How could she do this! Such lewdness in broad daylight!
"Is it hot?" Xie Xuan asked without looking up.
"Huh?" Yu Jing glanced at Xie Xuan! Originally, she was just feeling hot, but now she also felt guilty for being caught. "No, I'm not hot at all."
"Fairy Yu Jing." After a while, Xie Xuan suddenly put down his brush and looked up at Yu Jing. "I have painted an orchid picture. Would Fairy Yu Jing like to come and take a look?"
"Okay...okay." Yu Jing was now a little confused about Xie Xuan's thoughts. She stood up, straightened her clothes, and walked to the table. Actually, when she heard about the orchid painting, Yu Jing remembered the one she painted with Xie Xuan when they were about to go to war in the mortal realm.
"What does Fairy Yu Jing think? Would you like to add something else?" Xie Xuan asked tentatively.
Yu Jing smiled and replied, "Your Majesty's painting is excellent. I think there's no need to add anything more."
Seeing Yu Jing's smiling face, Xie Xuan was also happy: "If Fairy Yu Jing thinks it's good, then it's good."
Xie Xuan's tone was incredibly doting, as if he were coaxing her, and Yu Jingxin's heart skipped a beat. The way the Emperor looked at that moment was so much like Xie Xuan; it felt like he *was* Xie Xuan.
Although Yu Jing had some doubts, she had no doubt about Laozi's immortal water.
After lunch, Yu Jing continued reading, but perhaps because she had gotten up too early, she felt incredibly sleepy. Her eyelids kept closing as she read.
In a daze, she felt her body become much lighter. After a while, she sank into a soft, warm, and gentle place, which was very comfortable. Yu Jing adjusted her sleeping position with satisfaction and fell into a deeper sleep.
Looking at Yu Jing's sleeping face, Xie Xuan thought to himself, "I'll have to keep a close eye on her from now on, otherwise she won't even know who took her away."
Yu Jing was woken up by hunger. Still groggy, she stared blankly at the ceiling. This didn't seem to be Zhelan Palace, nor the Marriage Palace. After a moment's thought, Yu Jing realized she was in Yuqing Palace. Just as she assumed this was her own bedroom, she sat up and glanced at the furnishings before realizing something was amiss. This was probably Xie Xuan's sleeping quarters. However, this couch was truly exquisite—a soft, cloud-patterned couch, incredibly comfortable to lie on. She'd ask Zhelan to get her one too someday.
"You're awake." Xie Xuan's voice came from a distance. Yu Jing was startled and called out somewhat awkwardly, "Your Majesty."
"Come and have dinner when you wake up."
"Oh," Yu Jing replied somewhat embarrassedly. After all, she was there to serve, but right now she seemed to be there to enjoy herself.
After dinner, Yu Jing accompanied Xie Xuan for a walk around the backyard of Yuqing Palace twice. Just when Yu Jing thought they were going back, Xie Xuan did not head towards his bedchamber.
"Your Majesty, what are we doing?"
"Go to the hot springs." Xie Xuan replied calmly, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Fairy Yu Jing may accompany me."
