Chapter 49: Isolated Island
——<A terrible dividing line>

This line of cold, small words, like a final judgment, completely shattered the last bit of hope in Su Yan's heart.
It wasn't a dead battery; it was a dead card. Did Huo Shen find out? Or was it Assistant Zhou's doing? Or... was there something wrong with my brother that caused the disconnection?
Either possibility meant he was completely isolated, trapped in this magnificent cage, cut off from all contact with the outside world, unable to learn of his brother's fate or pass on any information.
A huge panic and despair overwhelmed him like a tide. He slumped to the ground, his back against the cold wall, his hand tightly gripping the now useless phone, his knuckles turning white from the force.
The cold, resolute look in Huo Shen's eyes as he left replayed in his mind like a scene from a movie. "He chose this path, so he must bear the consequences." ... "It's your brother who sought death."
What would happen to his brother? What would Huo Shen do to him? A devastating blow to his business? Or something even more terrifying… like he did to Mr. Zhao?
Su Yan couldn't help but tremble all over when he thought of Mr. Zhao's "accidental" car accident. In Huo Shen's world, the boundaries between law and morality seemed particularly blurred. If he really wanted to kill Su Chen...
Su Yan didn't dare to think any further. An unprecedented chill began in his heart and quickly spread to his limbs.
What should he do? What can he do?
Beg Huo Shen? He had just tried it, and the result was obvious. Huo Shen would not let Su Chen go just because of his pleading.
Offering those secrets about Ah Xi and the medicine in exchange? That would be like trying to get the skin of a tiger, and it would probably anger Huo Shen and hasten the demise of their brothers.
Sit back and wait for death? Watch Su Chen being destroyed?
No! He can't do it!
A kind of calmness, almost insane, that came from being pushed to the extreme, slowly replaced the initial panic. He couldn't panic, he had to think.
Huo Shen was definitely going to the company to deal with this whistleblower incident. With his methods and abilities, Su Chen's report might not really damage the foundation of the Huo family, but it would definitely anger Huo Shen and lead to more violent retaliation.
Assistant Zhou... what is he doing now? Will he help Huo Shen attack Su Chen, or... take advantage of the chaos to do something? The piece of paper with "compulsory intervention measures" written on it flashed in Su Yan's mind like a ghost.
And that mysterious girl who sent him cakes and warnings... Did she know something? Did she have other ways to contact him?
Thoughts flashed through Su Yan's mind, but he rejected them one by one. He was now unable to move forward, cut off from information, and all roads seemed blocked.
Time passed slowly in the anxiety and silence. Outside the window, the hustle and bustle of the day gradually sank into the darkness of the night. The apartment was eerily quiet, with only the sound of his heavy breathing.
Huo Shen never came back.
This torture of waiting for an unknown judgment can almost drive people crazy.
I don’t know how long it took, just when Su Yan was on the verge of a mental breakdown, there was finally a “beep” sound from the electronic lock opening at the door of the apartment.
Su Yan suddenly jumped up from the ground, his heart instantly rising to his throat, his eyes fixed towards the entrance.
The door opened.
The person who came in was not Huo Shen, but Assistant Zhou.
He was still wearing a neat suit, his face expressionless, holding a tablet in his hand. His eyes swept around the empty living room, finally landing precisely on Su Yan, who rushed out of the room with a pale face.
Assistant Zhou walked up to him and turned the tablet screen towards him. A clip of financial news was playing. In the video, Su Chen stood at the entrance of the Su Group, surrounded by a group of reporters. His face was tense, and he was trying hard to explain something, but the noisy voices drowned out his words, making him look particularly embarrassed and helpless.
"Mr. Su," Assistant Zhou said in a steady voice, as if stating an established fact, "Your brother's press conference didn't seem to go over well. President Huo asked me to tell you that this is just the beginning."
He put away the tablet and looked at Su Yan's face which had lost blood instantly. The eyes behind the lenses were calm and almost cruel.
"Also, in light of the recent series of events, and out of concern for your 'safety,'" Assistant Zhou bowed slightly, his movements standard yet devoid of respect. "Mr. Huo has ordered that from now on, you may not leave this apartment without permission. Please also leave all external communication equipment in my custody."
He stretched out his hand and his eyes fell on the old cell phone that Su Yan was holding tightly.
The last fence fell completely. Su Yan looked at Assistant Zhou's outstretched palm and felt as if he had been stripped of all his defenses, exposed naked to the hunter's gun. Even the last bit of strength to struggle had been drained away.
