Downstairs, Yan Li, now fully awake, went down and ordered several well-done steaks, then fell silent.
The butler, mindful of his mission, had come downstairs prepared for a barrage of questions from Yan Li and had even figured out how to put on airs, but the scenario he had envisioned never materialized.
Yan Li was unusually quiet today.
Even though she was like this on any other day, in the housekeeper's eyes, today was exceptionally different.
She sat at the dining table, eating her steak with extreme elegance, without even raising her head.
The butler's patience gradually wore thin, and finally, he couldn't resist stepping forward and speaking up:
"Miss Yan, is something on your mind?"
He had a very good plan. He had already asked, so Yan Li would definitely say something to him, after all, those elves had been whispering sweet nothings in her ear for so long yesterday.
Yan Li, who had been chewing meat, suddenly stopped, looked up at the butler, and, as if he had something difficult to say, slowly spoke:
"There is indeed something."
A hint of surprise flashed in the butler's eyes: We really have to rely on him.
"This well-done steak seems overcooked today." Yan Li swallowed the meat in her mouth with difficulty.
"But it's okay, my teeth are still fine."
The butler's smile froze; he didn't have time to question his own cooking skills, and remained full of enthusiasm and anticipation.
Is there anything else?
Yan Li picked up another piece of meat with her fork, paused in mid-air, and shook her head: "That's all."
Upon hearing this, the butler took a deep breath and snatched the fork from Yan Li's hand, which she hadn't yet put in her mouth.
Butler: "Miss Yan, please don't insist. I'll go and prepare a few new ones for you right away."
Without giving Yan Li any chance to refuse, the butler took away the three untouched steaks from the table.
Yan Li was completely bewildered to see the dining table empty.
She didn't seem to say that all the steaks were overcooked, did she?
Fortunately, the butler was quick enough that he brought out several new plates of steak in about five minutes.
He smiled and said, "Miss Yan, please enjoy your meal."
Although he hadn't completed the task assigned by the lord, the butler was naturally in a good mood due to the unexpected bonus:
"If you don't like something in the future, just tell me directly. You don't have to put up with it."
Yan Li didn't hesitate for long. Eating the freshly cooked steak in front of her, she nodded: "I have to say, the butler's cooking skills are top-notch."
The butler did not leave, but stood beside Yan Li and waited. After some time, seeing that she really had no intention of speaking again, he finally couldn't hold back.
“Miss Yan, the lord is actually a very good person. You may have misunderstood him about what happened before.”
Yan Li subconsciously stopped chewing, glanced at the last bite of steak on her plate, and then looked up at the butler:
Does it really have to be said at this time?
Could the previous incident refer to the time she and Wen Ze were locked together?
"Since it's a misunderstanding, let's not talk about it anymore."
Yan Li didn't want to relive her embarrassing past, so she quickly stuffed the last bite of meat into her mouth, then got up and prepared to run upstairs to her room.
The butler followed closely behind Yan Li, and seeing that he was about to lose, he took a deep breath and finally shouted:
“Actually, you went out of your room to find the lord that night, and I can testify to that.”
Yes.
Although his lord was somewhat trying to deceive Miss Yan, this matter was indeed not his lord's fault.
His lord at most simply didn't refuse.
"What's the meaning?"
Yan Li withdrew her foot from the stairs, turned around, and looked at the housekeeper with some disbelief.
Does he seem to know something inside?
"On the day Miss Yan locked herself in her room, the lord did ask me for the key to go find you, but that was simply because he was afraid you would be in danger."
"You may not know this, but when the lord went in, Miss Yan, you were already unconscious and lying in the crystal coffin. If the lord had arrived any later, Miss Yan would have suffocated to death after the crystal coffin was closed."
The butler patiently explained, "I swear in the name of my master, Miss Yan, I absolutely did not lie to you."
Yan Li hadn't expected there to be such a hidden story, and suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.
She had indeed thought about what would happen to her real body after she suddenly entered that dream, but she woke up twice next to that person, which made her think that there would be no danger.
I never expected that she would be lying in that crystal coffin?
But why did she appear there...?
“Yesterday, after the lord carried you back to his room, he placed the key on your bedside table and then left.”
"But less than an hour later, you opened the door yourself, carrying that pile of iron chains, without even taking the key, and ran to the lord's door and started knocking."
"The lord probably couldn't take the knocking anymore, so he opened the door for you."
Seeing that Yan Li hadn't responded to him for a long time, the butler, as if he had no other choice, administered another strong dose of medicine:
"Actually, Miss Yan went to see the lord in the same way the day before yesterday, but the lord didn't allow me to tell you."
"Stop!" Yan Li scratched his head, his pupils dilating involuntarily, and hurriedly waved his hands at the butler:
"Don't say anything yet, let me think about it myself."
"Think about it carefully."
She said she had no intention of listening any further; to be precise, she lacked the courage.
The housekeeper dared to speak, but she didn't dare to listen.
Yan Li rubbed his head, trying desperately to understand what the butler had said.
