Yan Li keenly noticed that Wen Ze was giving her the cold shoulder. She tried to visit him several times, but each time she was blocked by the door.
A man's promise is worth less than sand; it will vanish without a trace, even without the wind.
After letting out a long sigh, Yan Li silently reflected on the situation.
The butler explained that the lord was probably just too tired and needed to rest, so Miss Yan didn't need to worry too much.
But Yan Li wasn't really worried about Wen Ze's life or death. She was clearly afraid that he would break the agreement and go to find the princess, and if something happened to him, he would die in his coffin and no one would know.
Even though there's a housekeeper around, even though he's an old man, he should be able to offer some help, if all else fails.
But he insisted that he couldn't enter the princesses' rooms, let alone get close to the crystal coffins containing the princesses.
Yan Li: ...
How did Wenze get in? Was it because he was the owner of the castle?
However, without any other help and without being able to see Wen Ze, Yan Li was still uneasy about continuing the mission.
Three days later, at sunset, just as she was thinking that she could just coast along and live another day without any loss, the housekeeper knocked on her door.
"Knock knock—"
At this point, it was already past dinner time, so it seemed there was something else going on.
Yan Li opened the door.
"Miss Yan, there's something I'd like to discuss with you. Would it be convenient for you?"
The butler had a faint smile on his lips, but his eyes were dull and lifeless, and even his wrinkled face looked much older, suggesting that he had encountered a very urgent and troublesome matter.
Yan Li was curious about what could have made the butler force a smile and come looking for her.
"I wonder what the butler wants to say to me?"
The butler seemed to take a deep breath, extremely nervous: "It's like this, the lord has been asleep for three days, something that has never happened before."
As he spoke, he kept an eye on Yan Li's expression.
Yan Li nodded in perfect agreement, bringing up the excuse the steward had given her earlier: "Perhaps the lord was too tired and slept for a few more days."
The housekeeper choked: What normal living person can sleep for three days and two nights without opening their eyes?
Although the lord is not exactly a normal person, Miss Yan shouldn't be so careless.
The butler remained calm. Seeing that Yan Li remained unmoved, he thought for a moment and spoke again:
“I know that there was an agreement between the lord and Miss Yan. Now that the lord is not awake, I'm afraid it will be difficult for Miss Yan to accomplish her goal.”
Upon hearing this, Yan Li paused for a moment, then nodded in agreement, as if she found the words quite reasonable.
"It's alright, I'm not in a hurry. Let the lord rest for a few days first."
"We've already troubled the lord a lot these past few days."
The butler's face froze. He opened and closed his mouth repeatedly, but didn't know how to start. He could only dryly reply, "No trouble at all, no trouble at all."
But his hesitant manner clearly indicated that he still had something to say.
Yan Li wasn't in a hurry, so she stood at the door waiting for the butler, but no one came out even after she had waited and waited.
"Butler, if you really have something to say, please just say it."
The butler finally got Yan Li to speak and said without hesitation, "I would like to trouble Miss Yan to guard my lord tonight."
Yan Li retorted without hesitation, "Why?"
The butler glanced at Wen Ze's room before looking at Yan Li again, and spoke with utmost seriousness:
"I can only tell Miss Yan that if you still want the lord's protection and don't want your agreement with the lord to be nullified, then tonight is your last chance."
This is the first time the lord has slept for so long after waking up from his slumber.
At first, he thought the lord was deliberately trying to spite Miss Yan, but it wasn't until he realized he couldn't open the lord's door that he belatedly realized something was wrong.
The agreement being null and void was not something he lied to Yan Li about.
Rather, if the lord falls into a deep sleep, it is highly likely that it will be a hundred years from now. Even if the agreement is not voided, Miss Yan will not be able to fulfill it.
After all, the dead are not only heartless, but also powerless.
Having said all that, the butler couldn't reveal too much and could only leave it to Yan Li's own fate. He then turned and went downstairs.
If the lord is truly asleep, he will once again have to live with these cold tableware, and every day he can only stand in the southeast and drink the northwest wind.
This really made him feel melancholy.
As the saying goes: We are all fellow sufferers in this world, why should we need to have known each other before?
If Yan Li had another chance, she would rather have died outside the castle.
She also remembered the second rule she had learned from the housekeeper: she couldn't go to Wen Ze at midnight, otherwise...
Otherwise, what would happen?
Yan Li couldn't remember, nor did she want to think about it. After leaving the room, she went up to the fifth floor and found Wen Ze's room again.
In the end, she was completely manipulated by this man.
How could anyone be so petty? She just wanted to know if the person in her dream was him.
Yes, Yan Li wasn't naive or innocent, nor did she believe in so many coincidences. Wen Ze frequently appeared in the same dreams as her, which had long aroused her suspicion, so she decided to probe and ask him first.
Unfortunately, this person is a stingy person. He only asked a question, but it made it seem as if she had done something to betray him.
If nothing unexpected happens, this dream was created by this person, the person was also a figment of his imagination, and he even turned her into a mute.
She hadn't even reacted yet, but he had already started.
"If you don't open the door, I will leave the castle tomorrow."
"I don't care about princesses or promises anymore."
