Yan Li sighed, looked up again at Wen Shanbai's serious expression, and resolved to struggle one more time:
"Little White, do you think it's possible that the evil dragon isn't a match for me?"
She wasn't blindly confident; she just wanted to see what kind of existence that evil dragon was in this person's eyes.
“Absolutely impossible.” Wen Shanbai said without hesitation, then paused for a moment, “Ali, don’t even think about it, you can’t possibly beat it.”
"But it can eat you up without any effort."
Unlike his previous gentle tone, Wen Shanbai's expression turned serious, and his voice trembled, as if what Yan Li had said was nonsense.
Yan Li was slightly taken aback, then said, "Perhaps I'm not that weak after all?"
Seeing that she still didn't have a clear understanding of her own strength, Wen Shanbai slowly lowered his eyes, and the corners of his lips also straightened slightly.
And those eyes, hidden in the light and shadow, also seemed to have a hint of darkness and malice.
Is your haste to slay the dragon because you no longer want to stay in this dark world? Are you eager to leave it?
But he has stayed here for so long, and all he wanted was for her to accompany him on his final journey. Why wouldn't she even grant him such a simple wish?
They still insist on rushing to their deaths.
If that's the case, why not just die at his hands?
Perhaps he shouldn't have given her a chance to speak; he should have simply tied her up, locked her in the cave, and left her to his whims.
"And after we slay that evil dragon, maybe I can take you away from this place, and you won't die,"
Yan Li seemed oblivious to Wen Shanbai's odd behavior. After a pause, she spoke again, "Aren't you tempted?"
Wen Shanbai seemed quite angered by Yan Li's words. Disregarding the impropriety of his behavior, he used his other hand to pinch her chin and gently lift it.
"Tempted? Of course I am."
"If you can live, no one will want to die, right?"
"But more than being moved, I'm worried about Ali's heart; it won't move!"
Their eyes met, and Wen Shanbai's gaze fell on Yan Li's face. Then he tightened his grip, making it impossible for her to struggle.
"Ah Li, you can't even break free from the hand of a dying man like me," he said, then chuckled softly, as if he could no longer keep up the act, his tone tinged with mockery, "yet you dare to dream of slaying a dragon?"
Do you think there will be anything good in your abyss?
"Innocent!"
“If I hadn’t brought you back yesterday, you would have been eaten to bits by them.”
Yan Li's hands clenched slightly.
Just as she was about to reach her limit, Wen Shanbai, as if he had exhausted all his strength, suddenly released the hand that was restraining her and leaned against the cave wall.
His face was pale, and the veins on the back of his hand were bulging from the force he had exerted, clearly indicating that he was truly angry, but his body was not in a position to bear such emotions.
It took him a while to calm down.
"I'm sorry." Yan Li didn't expect Wen Shanbai to make her so angry. After hesitating for a moment, she bent down and said, "Don't be angry."
She's not dead yet, but she's almost driven this guy crazy with anger.
Thinking about it that way, she really isn't human.
He always thought of her best interests, yet she still harbored doubts about him.
“Ah Li, if you don’t believe me, you can wait a little longer. I won’t live much longer.” Wen Shanbai seemed not to have taken Yan Li’s words to heart, and continued talking to himself:
"I've been alone in this place for too long, and there's no one around to talk to. I only met Ah Li when I was about to die."
“Ali, you can call me selfish if you want. I just want my fellow human beings to see me off before I die, so that I don’t end up with no one to collect my body.”
