Chapter 196 Evil Spirits (26)

The fifth day.

Butler Hu looked at the red silk filling the mansion with a bitter smile, but when he thought about who Wen Hao was going to marry, he couldn't help but sigh.

If the young lady were still alive, would she really want her son-in-law to act this way?

Thinking of the master and mistress's dying words, he felt only guilt towards them, that he had failed to protect the young lady.

Staying in this house was the only way he could atone for his sins.

After arranging everything he needed, he wiped the sweat from his brow, looked at the new room, and slowly walked over.

To perform a posthumous marriage with one's late wife on the last day of the three-year period—only this one person in Nan'an would do such a thing.

The Yan residence was not lively.

It was supposed to be a joyous occasion, but it felt like a funeral.

The only guest was Li Xiangrong, who had recently beaten Wen Hao.

It was nearing dusk.

On the side of the hall, Li Xiangrong, now the person attending the wedding, looked at the scene just like three years ago, took another swig of wine in silence, and held Wen Hao back:

"This time, I truly accept you as my brother-in-law!"

"But what I said before still stands. If you ever dare to betray Li'er and remarry, I will make sure you see the real Li'er."

He swallowed a mouthful of wine while looking at the memorial tablet that Wen Hao was holding tightly in his arms, and then handed the other wine glass in his hand to him.

Li Xiangrong, who had prepared herself for rejection, did not expect Wen Hao to be so cooperative in taking the wine glass from his hand and swallowing it without any hesitation.

Has he forgotten that they're not the kind of people who can just sit down and drink together?

Seeing that his wine glass was empty, Li Xiangrong was taken aback for a moment, then suddenly chuckled, sat back down at his seat, and continued to pour himself more wine, saying:

"Alright, I won't bother you with drinking today. Go and spend time with the people you need to spend time with."

He paused after speaking.

But he wasn't the only one who realized his slip of the tongue; even Butler Hu, who was standing to the side, was immediately filled with rage.

Unexpectedly, Wen Hao did not react at all. Instead, he carefully carried the memorial tablet to the newly decorated bridal chamber.

***

In the new house, Yan Li was wearing the most fashionable new style that Wen Hao had changed into during the day.

I deliberately changed them while blindfolded.

Before dawn, Yan Li watched as he pulled out a strip of pure black cloth from somewhere and covered his eyes layer by layer, then thoughtfully handed it to her to tie the knot himself.

I was just thinking that we didn't need to play such elaborate games so early in the morning.

Wen Hao preemptively offered to change her clothes himself.

The reason is to make up for the regret of three years ago.

No wonder he was said to be able to pass the imperial examination with top honors; ever since she shut him up and stopped him from doing so last time with that reason, he actually found a way to resolve the situation this time.

But he was blindfolded, and it seemed that she was the one suffering.

Whether it was Wen Hao's intention or not, it took him a long time to successfully remove a piece of clothing, and he stubbornly refused to let her do it herself.

Yan Li found it hard not to suspect that Wen Hao had ulterior motives.

But it was only when her inner garment was removed that she discovered a problem she had been ignoring all along: the bruises on her body had disappeared without her noticing.

And the dull, lifeless skin has become much more vibrant.

Apart from her dead heart still not beating, she seemed no different from a living person.

At this moment, Wen Hao seemed to notice Yan Li's unusual behavior. He thought she was too nervous, so he reached out and touched her face, slowly leaned closer, and kissed her lips: "Don't worry, A Li, I can't see."

As if to dispel her concerns from several days ago, Wen Hao gently comforted her, and then pulled over the new clothes that had been prepared and slowly put them on Yan Li.

After everything was over, he slowly removed the black cloth covering his eyes, a slight smile playing on his lips, but his ears were already bright red.

Of course, Yan Li wasn't much better off. She was so angry that she couldn't speak when she saw Wen Hao still pretending to be innocent.

He's getting dressed, but why are his hands still so improper?

The soft sound of wine falling into glasses filled my ears.

The night was as quiet as it was three years ago.

Yan Li sat quietly by the bed, waiting.

The footsteps grew closer.

Her eyes lit up as she saw Wen Hao, dressed in a brightly colored wedding gown, holding a scale rod and lifting her veil.

"Ah Li, shall we be husband and wife in name only this time?" Wen Hao said softly, then picked up the nuptial wine from the side, his eyes unable to leave her.

Yan Li understood the hidden meaning in Wen Hao's words. After taking the wine glass he offered, she softly replied, "Mm."

If it happened again, would the reason for her death come to light?

Looking at the wine glass in Wen Hao's hand, Yan Li raised her head, and through those eyes, she seemed to see his heart as well. She couldn't help but raise the corners of her mouth again and drink the wine in the glass in one gulp.

I don't know how much time has passed.

The room was filled with the dull thud of a wine glass falling to the ground, the sound of a heavy object toppling over, followed by the shattering of porcelain pieces being pushed to the floor.

It seemed as if they were trying to cover something up.

The tightly closed door was pushed open by a huge external force, making a 'creak' sound, and then the mess in the room came into his view.

Seeing Wen Hao sitting peacefully on the bed, Butler Hu looked surprised, but he quickly composed himself and asked, "Is the master alright?"

The room, which was originally very festive, was now littered with broken pieces, and spilled wine, along with sunflower seeds, peanuts, and other snacks on the bed.

"Seeing that I'm alright, Steward Hu seems quite disappointed?" Wen Hao chuckled.

Meanwhile, Yan Li was bound by the red thread and thrown onto the bed, completely unaware that the change would happen so suddenly.
