When Jing Li was reading the novel, she had only read about a third of the whole book. The beginning of the story started with the original owner's self-destructive behavior, then moved on to dealing with the cannon fodder of the Shen family, and the female lead Cui Xueling and her various harem members showering the readers with sweetness.
The novel she was reading didn't mention Cui Xueling's background. It wasn't until the Cui family came knocking that she realized the novel basically included all the melodramatic tropes found in other novels.
Seeing such a grand and elaborate display of luxury cars now, Jing Li couldn't help but wonder if it was some kind of melodramatic plot twist.
The novel initially revolves around the campus, entertainment, and business circles, but it's not impossible that it might later expand to include the military, political, and even national spheres. Given the typical nature of melodramatic novels, this is certainly not out of the question.
