Chapter 232 Defying Fate

Jiang Yue was half asleep when she seemed to hear someone calling her Mingyi in her dream.

Only those very close to her would softly call her Mingyi. Her mother liked to call her that, and her father would also call her that affectionately.

No one else would dare to do that.

Most people respectfully addressed her as Princess.

Jiang Yue slept soundly. When she opened her eyes the next day, she was still drowsy and thought that Ming Yi from the previous night was just a dream.

When she woke up, a man's hand was across her waist, encircling her body.

Jiang Yue raised her trembling eyelashes and looked at the man in front of her. He had been frowning even while sleeping, and she wondered what was bothering him.

Jiang Yue carefully tried to remove his hand from her waist, but failed several times, even waking the man who was still asleep.

He opened his eyes, his gaze fixed on her like a nail, his voice hoarse with weariness from just waking up in the early morning. He asked, "Where to?"

Jiang Yue sensed that he hadn't slept well last night; he looked very tired, and his eyes were bloodshot.

She said, "Get up, I have work to do today."

Her work hours at the TV station were often irregular, with no fixed time. But it was already 10 a.m., and Zhou Ji would usually be at the company by now, not staying in bed with her like this.

"Aren't you going to the company today?"

"I'm not going."

"You're the boss, shouldn't you set a good example?"

"Yeah, even bosses sometimes want to go on strike."

Jiang Yue had just sat up when he pulled her back onto the bed, his arms around her waist. He wrapped his arms around her tightly and rubbed his chin against her neck. "Get up later, there's still time."

He then added, "I'll take you there."

Jiang Yue, beautiful and kind-hearted, stayed in bed with Zhou Ji for an extra half hour. After getting up, she washed and changed her clothes. By the time she finally left the house, there wasn't much time left before the rehearsal at the station.

On her way to the TV station, Jiang Yue couldn't help but blame Zhou Ji for everything, and Zhou Ji apologized very kindly.

We arrived at the recording site right on time.

Jiang Yue breathed a sigh of relief, but Zhou Ji remained in the recording studio, showing no intention of leaving.

Jiang Yue had gotten used to him coming to watch her record shows, and the others in the studio had also gotten used to it and no longer made a fuss.

Zhou Ji will neither interfere nor disrupt their progress.

He simply sat quietly in the corner, acting as a well-mannered audience member.

Zhou Ji sat in a corner, the light and shadow dim, deliberately hiding in the shadows to reduce his presence.

His presence can sometimes put pressure on others.

Even if they don't say anything and just sit there quietly, the invisible pressure feels like a mountain pressing down on their hearts.

After recording the show, Jiang Yue returned backstage.

I had just changed back into my own clothes when the door to the lounge clicked shut and was locked from the inside.

Hearing the door lock click, Jiang Yue subconsciously turned around and glanced back.

Zhou Ji calmly closed the door. Jiang Yue saw him follow her and said, "You seem to be my follower today, inseparable from me."

She removed her makeup before changing her clothes.

Her little face was white and soft, with a shimmering hue on her cheeks.

Her sternness seemed to have remained unchanged from beginning to end; she was always a proud little princess.

Her eyes were only on the people she truly cared about and held dear in her heart.

Zhou Ji was intimidated by her resolute attitude. Looking into her eyes, he slowly came to his senses and smiled at her: "Going home? Or should we pick up the kids from school first?"

Jiang Yue raised an eyebrow: "You really don't have anything else to do today?"

Zhou Ji is not usually an idle person who does nothing productive.

I travel frequently for work.

I rushed back from the port city last night, so I should be very busy today.

They probably don't have time to watch over her like she's a prisoner.

Zhou Ji said, "No."

He paused for a moment, his voice calm and utterly flat, "Not tomorrow either."

Jiang Yue looked at him without much suspicion.

We assumed he was just overworked and wanted to rest for a couple more days.

But she didn't expect that Zhou Ji seemed to really treat her like a prisoner, guarding her at all times.

Even at home, there is no peace.

She was engrossed in watching TV when she turned her head and met Zhou Ji's gaze.

It was as quiet as a lake.

Deeply dark and gloomy.

Unable to see through or guess what's going on.

Jiang Yue couldn't bear to watch TV anymore. She pressed the pause button, sat cross-legged on the sofa, and looked at Zhou Ji with a serious expression: "Have you done something wrong?"

Zhou Ji paused for two seconds, then pursed his thin lips: "No."

Jiang Yue stared at him for a long time. The man had a delicate and handsome face. The sunlight falling through the glass window added to his amiable appearance. He had a high nose bridge, dark eyes, and fair skin. His expression was calm and composed, and he met her gaze openly. He certainly didn't seem guilty.

He probably didn't lie to her.

Jiang Yue pursed her lips a little uncomfortably. She didn't exactly complain, but just muttered softly, "Then stop staring at me. It makes me feel awkward."

Zhou was silent for a moment, then obediently said, "Okay."

If he says it's good, then it really is good.

This time, unlike last night, he didn't give her a blank check.

Jiang Yue lay on the sofa watching TV, while the man sat quietly beside her, his head down, working on the documents in his hands.

Jiang Yue felt uncomfortable lying down, so she changed her position, resting the back of her head on his lap, her loose black hair falling quietly and obediently beside his hand.

Zhou Ji casually twirled a few strands of her hair with his fingertips, the silky smooth touch of his fingers gently gliding through them.

Her eyelashes were very long, thin as cicada wings, and fluttered gently twice, delicate and beautiful.

Her complexion was fair and rosy, radiating vitality and charm.

Zhou Ji put down the documents in his hand at some point, gently loosened his fingers that were wrapped around her hair, and let his warm fingertips touch her cheek.

This tranquil and beautiful time felt more like a dream to him. He feared that he might wake up from this beautiful dream at any moment.

The wait has been too long.

I failed too many times.

My heart has become numb from being cut by a knife.

It is precisely because of this that we are now so anxious about gains and losses.

Jiang Yue felt a little itchy on her face, so she pushed his hand away without looking at him, her eyes still on the TV. She complained, "It itches."

Zhou Ji gently tidied her stray hairs, his fingertips still lingering on her cheek. He gazed at her, his eyes deep, and asked in a low voice, "Do you like me?"

The voice was very low.

It has a unique magnetic quality.

It sounds great.

Jiang Yue found him boring and refused to talk to him.

Without a word, the man turned off her TV. As she glared at him angrily, he lowered his head and kissed her lips, relentlessly asking, "Do you like me?"

"say."

The last two words unconsciously carried a hint of authority from someone in a superior position.
