"Please calm down, Madam."
Hearing the maid's comforting words, He Ru suddenly thought of her useless husband.
Zheng Lin usually doesn't give her any face, but she still listens to Zheng Youguo to some extent.
Sure enough, father and son are father and son, and it's not something an outsider like her can interfere with.
"Go and call the master to the pool to take a look." After giving the order, He Rong looked out onto the balcony. "I don't believe we can't persuade him."
......
After breakfast, Zheng Youguo lay in bed wanting to play a few more rounds of Dou Dizhu (a card game). The maid came to invite him two or three times, but he was so engrossed in the game that he didn't even flinch.
He Rong had a headache all night from anger. After repeated requests and urgings to no avail, she had no choice but to come herself to get help. As soon as she entered and heard the music from a card game, she slammed her hand on the door twice and stomped her foot angrily: "Still playing! This is going to kill someone! Look at your son, what did I say back then..."
Before He Rong could continue, Zheng Youguo quickly put down his phone and joined in He Rong's cursing, "Yes, that unfilial son!"
If I don't join in with a few curses, she'll bring up old grievances again, starting with the orphanage, then her first impression of Zheng Lin, and she'll go on and on for half an hour. In the end, I'll get a few more slaps on the arm before it's finally over.
Zheng Youguo hadn't told He Rong that Zheng Lin wasn't his biological son yet. He felt now was a good opportunity.
He thought for a moment and said, "My dead friend entrusted Zheng Lin to me and Lao Xu before he died. I never expected the child to grow up to be such an infuriating person. If I could have known, I would have left him in the orphanage and patiently waited for him to be adopted by a good family. That way, he wouldn't be so infuriating to us."
As he spoke, he kept glancing at He Rong's expression out of the corner of his eye to make sure she wasn't even angrier after hearing what he said.
"You say Zheng Lin isn't your biological son? Who are you trying to fool? If he wasn't your biological son, why would you have raised him so carefully for so many years? If he wasn't your biological son, why didn't you say so years ago? Why are you only saying it now?"
“You used to say that I had someone else outside and that I had an illegitimate child. I didn’t refute you because I was afraid that Zheng Lin would feel even more inferior after he found out his true identity.”
"Are you serious? All these years of arguing and bickering have been a joke." He Rong's emotions surged, her mind filled with memories of crying and making a scene at the Zheng family over the years, and she had completely forgotten about saving He Ru.
The butler heard the arguing in the master's room through the door, but dared not go in to disturb them. He said to a passing maid, "Prepare some medicine for the throat. The master and mistress will need it later."
......
Su Jin and Wang Keyi were trying to leave the Zheng family. As they passed by the pool, Su Jin saw a bodyguard pushing He Ru's head underwater and her heart skipped a beat.
They kept pushing people into the water all night?
The water should have been forced into his brain by now.
"Stop." Su Jin stepped forward and pulled the bodyguard who was squatting by the pool.
Wang Keyi also came to help, but neither of them could beat a bodyguard. With a push from the bodyguard, they both ended up sitting on the smooth bricks.
Having spent too much time in the pool, Wang Keyi developed a slight aversion to it. Whenever he saw a woman who had experienced the same thing as him, he felt a sense of sympathy for her.
Su Jin fell and hurt herself, rubbing her waist and hissing in pain.
"You still want to save her?" Zheng Lin, who had appeared out of nowhere, was looking down at the two of them.
"I'm afraid she'll die in front of me." Su Jin felt that Zheng Lin had been very irritable lately. If it were the old Zheng Lin, he would never have used such cruel methods on others. First it was Wang Keyi, and then it was He Ru.
Although the methods were not lethal, they still caused great physical and mental suffering to the victims.
Moreover, if anything goes wrong, they will die instantly.
How hateful! There could be a different way to teach her a lesson, instead of being so cruel.
"Get her out of there first. I have a way to deal with her." Su Jin looked at Zheng Lin; only his orders would be obeyed by the bodyguards.
He Ru was still struggling in the water, looking extremely pained. Sometimes, when she was pulled to the surface to breathe for even a second, she would cry out, "I was wrong, Brother Zheng Lin, give me a chance, I was..."
Before she could finish speaking, her head was pushed into the water again.
Zheng Lin acted as if he hadn't heard He Ru's heart-wrenching cries for help, focusing only on Su Jin, and asked, "When did you become so kind? This isn't like you."
Su Jin, who always tries to gain the upper hand when someone bullies her, will not plead for her enemy.
But Su Jin, standing before him, actually started speaking up for He Ru.
It really annoyed him.
However, Su Jin also felt the same way about Zheng Lin; both of them felt that the other had changed.
But Zheng Lin became terrifying.
Su Jin: "I just don't want to see anyone actually get into trouble. What's wrong with you? You've changed so much in the last two years. I feel like you're not yourself anymore."
Zheng Lin helped Su Jin up, his voice gentle and smiling as he said, "You are no longer yourself, so why must I be me? Did you hurt yourself?"
He turned around, his face darkening: "Who did this? Step forward."
The man stepped forward.
"Jump down yourself and hold your breath for ten minutes." Zheng Lin said casually, as if he were talking about a trivial matter.
The bodyguard hesitated for a moment, then said, "I quit. Who else can you hire?"
“If you leave, your family will suffer all of this for you. Jump, or do I have to beg you to jump?” Zheng Lin stared at him.
He spoke in a calm, even unhurried tone, yet each word he uttered sent chills down one's spine.
Su Jin could clearly sense that his emotions were extremely unstable.
Even if the bodyguards were his own people, he wouldn't let them go.
As a lawyer, he has always been righteous. His original intention was to bring light and hope to the world, so he shouldn't be like this now.
With no other option, the bodyguard jumped into the water himself.
Even with preparation, one can suffocate in ten minutes; the normal human breath-holding limit is six minutes.
Su Jin reached out to take Zheng Lin's hand, only to find his palm was ice-cold. "Calm down, let's talk this out. Don't keep urging others to dive. If you like watching diving so much, there are diving competitions on TV, I can watch them with you."
Zheng Lin's gaze fell on the hand being held, and his tightly furrowed brows relaxed slightly.
"Okay," Zheng Lin agreed.
"Wait a minute, I'll have them leave first. There are too many people, it'll disturb our TV viewing." Su Jin turned her head and winked at Wang Keyi.
It means he should remember to save people later.
Wang Keyi gave an OK sign and nodded, and Su Jin felt relieved enough to pull Zheng Lin away.
The two watched the diving competition all morning. Su Jin sat there, and Zheng Lin nestled beside her, and actually fell asleep.
She glanced at their clasped hands, then took the small blanket with her other hand and covered him with it.
Footsteps approached, and she looked up and gestured for the person to be quiet.
