“I’m going to live my life however I want, why should I let work bind me?” Xu Jingzhi raised one eyebrow at Song Leilei.
Song Leilei scoffed, "It's a good thing your family isn't rich, otherwise your behavior would be called that of an incorrigible spendthrift. You're poor, so now you're called a lazy bum lying flat."
As she passed by him, Song Leilei nudged Xu Jingzhi's arm with her elbow. "King of Salted Fish, I won't help you. Don't even think about swindling Uncle Xu out of his money; he still needs to take care of himself in his old age."
She poured herself a glass of water, picked it up and drank it, glaring at him fiercely.
Xu Jingzhi was always tolerant of her harsh words: "Don't worry about my dad, worry about me instead. I've spent today celebrating someone else's birthday, is that less than you saying a few decent words?"
"I've been speaking in plain language, it's just that you can't understand me." Song Leilei, with a face mask on, crawled onto the bed. "Clean up the trash before you go back."
Xu Jingzhi stepped outside, shouting, "Don't even think about it!"
The next day, Su Jin woke up in the soft, fragrant bed with her hair pinned down. She reached out and lifted the man's arm, rubbing it against the pillow and breaking off several long strands of hair.
Su Jin hissed, sat up, picked up a few strands of hair from the pillow, held them in her palm, and felt a pang of heartache.
She moved close to his face, grabbed one of his eyelashes, and plucked it out forcefully.
Zheng Lin opened his eyes, not knowing what had happened. Early in the morning, his lovely wife had taken the law into her own hands and tortured him.
"Are you angry?" Zheng Lin didn't even know what he had done wrong. He didn't care about the eyelash he had lost and immediately admitted his mistake, "I was wrong, don't be angry."
Su Jin: "What did you do wrong?"
Zheng Lin glanced to the side, thought for a moment, and couldn't help but think of Bai Qingchi's birthday celebration yesterday. Had they been discovered?
Zheng Lin tried to brush it off, saying, "My mistake was doing something that upset you."
"Your mistake was breaking so many of my hairs." Su Jin pouted, pinching a strand of hair between her fingers to show him, her eyes full of heartache. "Look, I worked so hard to grow my hair, and you broke so many of them in one go."
So that's what it was about. Zheng Lin secretly breathed a sigh of relief and lowered his head. "Pull a few of my hairs to calm me down."
“Then my hair won’t come back either.” Su Jin turned her head away from him, but a good idea came to her mind. “As punishment, you’re not allowed to go to the film set today.”
Zheng Lin readily agreed, "Okay, then I'll send Gao Zixin."
"He's not allowed to go either. He's your man. Your presence is just to disrupt the film set. Give me a few days of peace and quiet." Su Jin opened her eyes wide, looking at him like a little puppy, and pleaded.
Zheng Lin really didn't want to agree, but seeing how cute she was, he pinched her chin, kissed her lips, and said, "Okay. But if there's anything you can't handle, tell me. Don't try to be strong on your own. I'm here for you."
Su Jin smiled and nodded, giving a very perfunctory answer.
After letting him return to his room, Su Jin quickly washed up and headed to the studio to begin another day of filming.
When Su Jin arrived at the film set today, she heard staff members talking about it.
"I heard that the third female lead was replaced while the show was going well."
"They've filmed so many scenes, and they just replace the actress like that? What happened to the third female lead? And who's the new third female lead?"
"Tsk, someone has a powerful backer, like the actress brought in by the Zheng Group."
Su Jin sat on a recliner, drinking black coffee, while Song Leilei sat on the recliner next to her, munching on a hamburger.
After the two staff members walked away, Su Jin, holding a coffee cup, leaned to the side and whispered to Song Leilei, "They were just talking about actors from the Zheng Group. Who are they?"
"You didn't even know you were Zheng Lin's wife?" Song Leilei shrugged, took a big bite of her hamburger, and said with her cheeks puffed out, "Then I knew even less. Didn't Young Master Zheng mention it to you?"
Last night was so intense that Su Jin didn't even have time to share some gossip, and Zheng Lin didn't have time to talk to her about anything else. The two of them didn't fall asleep until 3 a.m.
Unexpectedly, men could affect her sleep quality. If this happened a few more times, she felt she might suddenly die on set.
Su Jin's face flushed slightly. Seeing her unusual expression, Song Leilei asked, "Your face is so red. Are you feeling unwell? Should I talk to the director and ask him to move your scenes to the afternoon?"
“No need,” Su Jin shook her head. “I’m just a little, a little hot.”
There was a scene in the morning between the female lead and the third female lead. When the time was almost up, a bunch of bodyguards suddenly appeared on set, protecting her from both sides. We didn't know who they were protecting, and all we could hear was the clattering of high heels.
Holding the milk tea, Song Leilei stared in disbelief and said, "Such a grand entrance! Is she the new third female lead? She doesn't seem like an easy person to get along with."
Su Jin glanced at her indifferently until the bodyguards lined up in two rows, and a slender woman walked out from the middle, her fingernails digging into her palms.
Song Leilei was so angry that she threw the whole cup of milk tea on the ground. "Bai Qingchi, how could it be her! She actually has the nerve to come here. She's clearly here for you. Everyone knows you're the female lead."
"Yes, I'm the female lead, everyone knows that, but the Zheng Group gave her the third female lead role." Su Jin only drank a cup of coffee in the morning and didn't eat anything else. Now her stomach was constantly contracting and spasming, and with the pressure, her stomach suddenly started hurting unbearably.
She pressed hard against her stomach, her face turning deathly pale instantly.
Song Leilei felt that yesterday's cover-up was a waste of time and effort; it would have been better if they had just met at the restaurant yesterday.
It's better than being on set now, where you have to be careful about what you say if you want to, and you might even have to be mindful of the occasion. If news of discord between the actors gets out, that would be terrible.
Seeing that she was clutching her stomach and looked very uncomfortable, Song Leilei took out a piece of chocolate, unwrapped it, and stuffed it into Su Jin's mouth. "Wait here, I'll go ask Young Master Zheng for you."
Su Jin grasped Song Leilei's wrist. "Don't go. I knew Bai Qingchi was coming back to China a long time ago, but I didn't expect it to develop like this. Asking anyone won't help."
When filming began, the director noticed that Su Jin looked unwell and was walking with a hunched back. He wanted to arrange for her to rest, but Su Jin declined with a smile.
"Are you really alright? Our filming schedule isn't that tight. If you're not feeling well, just go and rest."
"It's alright, don't let me hold everyone back. I can act well," Su Jin said firmly.
She had the makeup artist touch up her makeup again to cover up her pale face.
Since entering the film set, Bai Qingchi had been glancing at Su Jin every now and then, and had already noticed that Su Jin's stomach was upset. She looked at the prop sword prepared by the prop master next to her, held it in her hand and played with it for a while; it was retractable.
Bai Qingchi said to the prop master, "Teacher, could you please change to a non-retractable sword? It's like this, because it only requires a light scratch and won't hurt the actor at all, but I'm afraid that using a retractable sword will give us away."
