Chapter 200: Work Hard

Changyuan raised his eyebrows and patted Zhang Mazi's shoulder.

"You're such a sinister fellow! But I like it. Let's go and take a look. Don't let them really destroy the medicinal fields."

The two men quietly walked around the earth wall and saw three of the Zhou family's hangers-on holding hoes, preparing to climb over the wall to enter the medicinal field.

The skinny monkey in the lead was cursing.

"Damn it, that bastard Zhou Dazhu, he failed to steal the medicine and now he wants us to poach his friends. Isn't this just pushing us into the fire pit?"

Another fat man muttered, "Stop talking nonsense. Dazhu said he'll give you five bucks after we finish this job! Hurry up, dig it up and run!"

Changyuan sneered and was about to step forward when he heard a light cough behind him.

He looked back and saw An Caicai had caught up with him without him noticing. She was holding a wooden stick and grinning like a little fox. "Brother Yuan, why do you have to do it yourself? Leave these little minions to me!"

Without waiting for Changyuan's reaction, Caicai had already bent over and reached over.

She moved lightly and took advantage of the skinny monkey lowering his head to dig the soil to hit him on the back of the head with a stick.

The skinny monkey fell down without even a sound.

The fat man and another hanger-on were so scared that they were about to shout, but Caicai hit the fat man with another stick, knocking him down cleanly and neatly.

The last hanger-on's legs went weak, and he fell to his knees: "Auntie, spare us! We were forced to do this!"

Cai Cai put her hands on her hips and snorted, "Force you? What kind of magic potion did Zhou Dazhu feed you? Tell me! What else does he plan to do?"

The hanger-on was trembling and his nose was running with fear.

"Dazhu said... he was going to set fire to the medicinal fields tonight, and he also said he was going to get someone to destroy Brother Changyuan's farm!"

After hearing this, Changyuan's face darkened and a hint of murderous intent flashed in his eyes.

He stepped forward, grabbed the hanger-on by the collar, and said in a voice as cold as ice: "Setting fire? Destroying the place? Zhou Dazhu is really a daredevil!"

Cai Cai frowned, tugged at Chang Yuan's arm, and said softly, "Brother Yuan, don't be impulsive. We have the upper hand now, and Da Zhu is desperate. We need to hold steady. First, tie these guys up and hand them over to Lao Yuantou and the others, then find a way to get Da Zhu to fall into the trap himself."

Changyuan looked down at her. The morning light sprinkled on her face, and her eyelashes trembled slightly, like petals covered with dew.

His heart softened, he suppressed his anger, and nodded: "Okay, I'll listen to you. Caicai, your brain works better than mine."

Cai Cai's pretty face flushed, and she spat, "Stop talking nonsense! Get to work!"

But when she turned around, the corners of her mouth unconsciously rose, like a child who had stolen honey.

Zhang Mazi, watching from the sidelines, was filled with amusement, clapping his hands and saying, "Excellent, Caicai, your skills are a perfect match for Changyuan! I'll take these guys back first and have Old Yuan give them a thorough trial later. Changyuan, you and Caicai should discuss how to catch that big fish, Dazhu, tonight!"

Changyuan nodded, but his eyes fell on the medicinal field.

The morning mist gradually dissipated, and the medicinal seedlings in the medicinal field swayed in the wind, as if telling something.

He clenched his fists and thought: Zhou Dazhu, if you dare to touch my hard work, I won't even give you a chance to regret it!

An Caicai looked at Chen Changyuan's tense profile and a trace of worry arose in her heart.

She knew that Zhou Dazhu had really touched Chen Changyuan's bottom line this time.

The medicinal fields and breeding farms are Chen Changyuan's hard work and also his hope for rebirth.

"Brother Yuan,"

An Caicai called out softly, with a hint of tenderness in her tone, "Don't worry too much, we will take care of it."

Chen Changyuan turned to look at her, a hint of tenderness flashing in his eyes: "Cai Cai, thank you. If it weren't for you, I might have really acted impulsively."

An Caicai smiled sweetly: "We are allies, your business is my business."

"ally?"

Chen Changyuan repeated it playfully, a sly glint in his eyes, "I think he's more like my military advisor."

An Caicai's pretty face flushed slightly, and she glared at him in feigned anger: "You're making fun of me again!"

Chen Changyuan laughed and felt a lot more relaxed.

He knew that with An Caicai around, he was no longer fighting alone.

The two discussed it and decided to take advantage of the situation and lure Zhou Dazhu into the trap.

They deliberately spread the news that Chen Changyuan was going to send a batch of precious medicinal materials to the county town today, in order to lure Zhou Dazhu to come and rob.

When Zhang Mazi learned of this plan, he rubbed his hands excitedly. "Good boy, that's ruthless! I love this kind of catching a turtle in a jar."

He immediately gathered people and set up an ambush around the medicine field, waiting for Zhou Dazhu to fall into the trap.

As night fell, silence surrounded the medicinal fields.

Only the occasional chirping of insects in the distance added a touch of tension to the atmosphere.

Chen Changyuan and An Caicai, hiding in the dark, stared at the path leading to the medicinal field.

Time passed minute by minute, and just when the two were about to lose their patience, a few figures finally appeared in the distance.

“Here I come!”

Chen Changyuan said in a low voice, with a gleam in his eyes.

With the faint moonlight, it can be clearly seen that the people coming are Zhou Dazhui and several of his friends.

They held hoes, shovels and other tools in their hands and sneaked towards the medicinal field.

"Damn, this Chen Changyuan is really rich, with so many good medicinal herbs!"

Zhou Dazhu stared at the medicinal field greedily, with greed flashing in his eyes.

"Brother Zhu, we've made it this time!"

A follower said flatteringly.

Zhou Dazhu smiled proudly: "Once we get it, we'll go to the city and have fun for a few days!"

They were completely unaware that in the darkness around them, pairs of eyes were staring at them closely.

Just when Zhou Dazhui and others were about to take action, suddenly, a flame appeared all around them!

Zhang Mazi and others who were lying in ambush nearby rushed forward and surrounded Zhou Dazhu and others.

"You...why are you here?"

Zhou Dazhu shouted in horror.

"Zhou Dazhu,"

Chen Changyuan walked out from the darkness, his tone cold, "You didn't expect it?"

When he saw Chen Changyuan, Zhou Dazhu immediately realized that he had fallen into a trap and his face turned ashen.

He struggled frantically, trying to escape, but was pinned to the ground by Zhang Mazi and others.

At this moment, suddenly, a flash of fire shot up in the medicine field!

It turned out that before being captured, Zhou Dazhui lit the torch hidden on his body, and the fire spread rapidly!

"Oh no! The medicinal field is on fire!"

An Caicai exclaimed.

Chen Changyuan's face changed drastically. He didn't expect Zhou Dazhu to be so cruel!

He immediately organized the villagers to come and put out the fire, and he himself rushed into the fire scene to rescue those precious medicinal herbs.

An Caicai also ignored the danger and followed Chen Changyuan into the fire scene.

The flames raged and the smoke billowed, making it hard to breathe.

She and Chen Changyuan worked hard to put out the fire.

Thanks to everyone's efforts, the fire was finally brought under control.

Although the medicinal fields suffered some damage, fortunately most of the medicinal materials were rescued.

Looking at the burned part of the medicinal field, Chen Changyuan was filled with anger and heartache.

But he knew that now was not the time to be sad.
