Chapter 25 Deer Hunting

"I'm just a hunter, how could I know about all these complicated things? I only know that after that, I never dared to go to Qingshanling again."

Chen Changyuan didn't ask any further questions.

"By the way, Changyuan, I'm not telling you this to scare you."

The old man suddenly said, "I just want to remind you that you must be careful when you go into the mountains next time. If you encounter anything wrong, don't be stubborn, just run away."

"I understand, Uncle Yuantou."

Chen Changyuan nodded, but he had already made up his mind. He must go to Qingshanling and find out the details of this gang of poachers.

As the night deepened, Old Yuantou had drunk a little too much, so Fang Suxia helped him to the guest room to rest.

Chen Changyuan sat alone at the table, his eyes flickering.

The next day, the sun peeked out from the mountain ridge, dazzling people's eyes.

Chen Changyuan was still asleep when he heard Lao Yuantou shouting outside the door:

"Changyuan! The sun is shining on your butt! Are you still sleeping? Are you going into the mountains today?"

Chen Changyuan jumped up and rubbed his sleepy eyes.

Last night, Old Yuantou’s words kept turning over and over in his mind, making him unable to sleep well.

Who are these poachers? What secrets are hidden deep within the Qingshan Ridge?

"Coming, coming!" Chen Changyuan responded and quickly got up and washed.

Lao Yuantou had already prepared all his stuff: two hunting rifles, a hatchet, and a worn canvas bag.

Seeing Chen Changyuan coming out, the old man smiled and showed his yellow teeth:

"How did you sleep last night, kid? Did you have any good dreams?"

Chen Changyuan laughed out loud: "What sweet dream is there? Uncle Yuantou, did you sleep well last night?"

"Haha, great! I dreamed of killing a sika deer!"

Old Yuantou said, patting Chen Changyuan on the shoulder, "Let's go, today we will just fight a lone one and not go deep into the cave."

Chen Changyuan nodded, but he had other plans in mind.

On the surface, he promised Lao Yuantou not to go deep into Qingshanling, but in fact he was secretly observing the surrounding environment, hoping to find some clues.

The two walked along the rugged mountain road for about an hour. Suddenly, the old man stopped and sniffed the air.

"Changyuan, do you smell anything?"

Chen Changyuan shook his head in puzzlement: "What's that smell? Why don't I smell it?"

The old man chuckled:

"You don't understand, this is the smell of deer! There must be deer nearby!"

He bent down and carefully observed the marks on the ground:

"Look, these paw prints, these footprints, there's no mistaking it, it's an adult male deer, and it's injured!"

Lao Yuantou is very experienced and can judge the type, size and even injury status of the prey based on these subtle traces.

Chen Changyuan secretly admired Lao Yuantou and continued to move forward.

They stopped at the mouth of a valley, and the old leader pointed to a dense bush in front of them:

"Let's lie in ambush here. The injured deer will definitely come here to drink water."

The two men crouched down, hiding behind a huge rock, waiting patiently for their prey to appear.
