Chapter 51: Hounds

Seeing his solemn expression, the old man patted his shoulder and said earnestly:

"Changyuan, if you run into Tiger Lord next time, don't get angry with him. He's not someone you can mess with. We ordinary people can't beat him."

"I know."

The two men silently re-tied the furs on the cart and then walked back along the mountain road.

The setting sun stretched their shadows out.

Halfway through the journey, Chen Changyuan suddenly stopped and called out to Lao Yuantou:

"Old Yuan, I want to go to Qingshanling again."

The old man was stunned and asked doubtfully:

"Still going?"

Chen Changyuan nodded.

"I want to hunt a full-grown tiger."

When the old man heard this, he was so frightened that he almost jumped up:

"Are you crazy?! That's a tiger! The king of the mountain! We're not even strong enough to fill its teeth!"

"Old Yuan, have you forgotten what we have now?"

Chen Changyuan smiled mysteriously and took out a black object from his arms. It was the landmine he bought from the black market last time.

"Changyuan, this tiger is no joke. It's the ultimate bully in the mountains! It's nicknamed 'Wild Mountain Ginseng' and is incredibly powerful and ferocious! If it encounters a fully grown one, it'll probably kill it with a single slap!"

Chen Changyuan knew what Lao Yuantou was worried about.

"A few days ago, I took some young men from the village to Qingshan Ridge. Unfortunately, they were young and hot-headed, and their movements were clumsy. They only managed to hunt a small tiger before returning terrified. This time, I'd like to ask for your help. If we join forces, and with these earth mines, we might have a chance of victory."

The old man was still a little hesitant:

"The power of this landmine is hard to control. If we use too much, the tiger hide will be damaged and worthless. If we use too little, and the tiger doesn't die but goes crazy, we won't be able to stop it."

Chen Changyuan said confidently:

"I know this. We'll set up traps in places where tigers often appear, then use earth mines as bait. When the tiger falls into the trap, we'll detonate the earth mines. This way, we can both preserve the integrity of the tiger's skin and ensure that nothing goes wrong."

After hearing what he said, Old Yuantou felt that there was some truth to it.

He lit a pipe and took two puffs. The thick smoke swirled in front of him, covering most of his face and making it impossible to see his expression.

After a long while, he slowly exhaled a puff of smoke and said in a deep voice:

"Alright, let's go for it! Let's do it! I've never hunted a tiger in my life! If I could actually hunt one, it would be all worth it!"

Chen Changyuan was delighted and grinned:

"Old Yuan, it's done! If we really hunt a tiger this time, we'll split the profits 50-50!"

The old man took a puff of his pipe and squinted his eyes and said:

"Fifty-fifty? You're quite generous, boy. But don't get too excited just yet. Who can say for sure about the mountain god? I, an old man, can accompany you up the mountain, but let me be frank. If we see something wrong, we must retreat immediately. Saving our lives is the most important thing!"

Chen Changyuan naturally understood the old man's concerns and assured him:

"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing! I definitely won't joke about our lives!"

Old Yuan took a deep puff of his pipe, and in the smoke, a gleam of light flashed in his cloudy eyes.

"Alright! Let's do it! Damn it, I also wanted to fight a tiger when I was young, but unfortunately I never had the courage. This time, I'm going to go crazy with you!"

After the two men had made their decision, they went home to prepare their luggage.

The afterglow of the setting sun shines on the entrance of the village, dyeing everything golden.

Chen Changyuan and Lao Yuantou were pushing a modified cart, and as soon as they arrived at the village entrance they saw a familiar figure.

Li Ming, a famous hunter in the village, was one of the young men who followed Chen Changyuan to hunt tigers in the mountains last time.

Li Ming was holding a large bamboo basket and standing stealthily under the old locust tree at the entrance of the village. He looked outside the village from time to time, as if waiting for someone.

Chen Changyuan recognized him at a glance and shouted:

"Li Ming, what are you doing here? You're sneaking around like a thief."

When Li Ming saw Chen Changyuan, he immediately came forward excitedly:

"Brother Changyuan! I finally waited for you! I heard Aunt Fang say that you went down the mountain to the county, so I thought of waiting here, but I didn't expect to actually wait for you!"

Chen Changyuan was full of confusion: "Looking for me? What's the matter? You're so mysterious."

Li Ming chuckled and lowered his voice in a mysterious manner:

"Brother Changyuan, come down first. I want to show you something good!"

Chen Changyuan jumped off the cart, and Li Ming carefully opened the lid of the bamboo basket.

What appeared before everyone's eyes were a dozen furry little creatures, huddled together and making weak "howling" sounds.

"Is this... a bastard?" Old Yuan came forward and looked at it carefully with squinted eyes.

"Hey, Old Yuan, you have a good eye! This isn't just any puppy, it's a top-notch hunting dog I picked especially for Brother Changyuan!"

Li Ming proudly introduced, "These are all purebred Chinese native dogs, or what we often call big yellow dogs!"

Chen Changyuan looked at the puppies huddled together in the basket, and something in his heart moved.

He had also raised hunting dogs before his rebirth and knew how important a good hunting dog was to a hunter.

"You are thoughtful, kid." Chen Changyuan patted Li Ming's shoulder, a hint of relief flashing in his eyes.

"Hey, this is what I should do!"

Li Ming scratched his head and continued, "Brother Changyuan, let me tell you, there are different types of hunting dogs! I specially selected three for you: Zhongtu, Niugou, and Kuaibang! They're all in this basket!"

"Oh? Tell me, what are the differences between these three types of dogs?"

Old Yuantou became interested and asked.

Li Ming cleared his throat and acted like an expert:

"These fast-moving stalkers, as the name suggests, are loud and strong, and are specifically designed to track large prey, such as wild boars and bears. They have sensitive noses and can track prey by scent, and they can also use their calls to notify hunters of their prey's location."

"Where is that bitch?" Chen Changyuan asked.

"Slutty dogs, I don't mean they are slutty!"

Li Ming explained, "This refers to a small, agile dog with a keen sense of smell, specifically designed to track small prey, such as rabbits and weasels. They are fast and responsive, and can squeeze into all kinds of narrow places and drive out prey."

"What about the last important task?" asked the old man.

"Heavy trust means strong attack power and extreme ferocity. It's specially designed to deal with large beasts, such as tigers and leopards."

Li Ming said this with a hint of excitement in his tone.

"They are sturdy and have sharp teeth. They can cooperate with hunters in hunting and can even fight wild beasts directly!"

After hearing Li Ming's explanation, the old man's eyes lit up and he nodded in praise:

"Good job, kid. You're usually so quiet, but I didn't expect you to be so knowledgeable about dogs!"
