Chapter 56: Tigress

Old Yuan glared at him.

"There are some tricks to laying mines. You have to choose a good spot to kill with one strike!"

Lao Yuantou narrowed his eyes, carefully observed the surrounding terrain, and finally chose a location.

He took out a tightly wrapped earth mine from his backpack and handed it to Chen Changyuan carefully:

"Boy, bury this thing. Remember, bury it deep enough so the tiger won't find it!"

Chen Changyuan took the earth mine. It felt heavy in his hand and he couldn't help feeling a little nervous.

He followed the old leader's instructions, buried the mine, and carefully covered it with soil and fallen leaves to ensure that there was no room for error.

"Okay, let's find a place to hide!"

Old Yuantou said, pointing to a towering ancient tree nearby, "Right there, climb up!"

The two of them used their hands and feet to quickly climb up the ancient tree and hide among the dense branches and leaves.

Just as we settled down, a low roar came from the distance, getting clearer and clearer as it got closer.

Chen Changyuan held his breath and vaguely saw a huge figure slowly approaching through the thick fog.

The figure was agile and elegant, with a kingly aura. It was the prey they had been waiting for - the tiger!

"Here it comes!" Old Yuantou lowered his voice with a hint of excitement in his tone.

Chen Changyuan stared at the tiger closely. From his perspective, the tiger looked a little thin, with a slightly sagging belly, as if... the breast milk was sagging after pregnancy?

"Uncle Yuan, this... this looks like a tigress!" Chen Changyuan said in a low voice.

When the old man heard this, his expression changed immediately:

"Tigress? That's bad!"

The two men never expected that there were two tigers, one male and one female, in this place!

Although they had a lot of landmines and enough bullets, the tigress came back first. If she was killed by the landmine, the smell of blood would alert the male tiger.

The male tiger will definitely go crazy because his wife has died, and it will be much more difficult for the two of them to hunt.

"Damn, this is trouble!" Old Yuantou couldn't help but curse.

The air was thick with mist and filled with the scent of damp earth. Tigress walked slowly into the clearing with light steps.

It stopped, its pink nose twitching slightly, as if sniffing something.

A strange smell entered its nostrils, making it feel a little uneasy.

It let out a low growl, like a warning.

Chen Changyuan, perched in the tree, was practically suffocating with nervousness. He felt his heartbeat pounding like a drum. He stared intently at the tigress, his palms soaked with sweat.

"Damn, this beast is really alert!"

Old Yuantou cursed under his breath, "This is really troublesome! This cry must have attracted the male tiger!"

Tigress sniffed again, her uneasiness growing stronger.

It began to pace back and forth, its huge claws leaving deep marks in the ground.

It was getting closer and closer to where the landmines were buried...

Chen Changyuan felt like his heart was about to jump out of his chest. He didn't even dare to blink, for fear of missing any details.

At this moment, the tigress's front paw stepped on a landmine. There was a deafening "boom" sound, and the ground began to tremble.

Thick smoke billowed, mud flew everywhere, and the surrounding trees shook violently.

The tigress was knocked to the ground by the huge impact and let out a shrill scream.

It struggled to stand up, but found that its hind legs had lost feeling.

"Good opportunity!" Old Yuantou shouted, raised his hunting rifle and aimed at the tigress's eyes.

"Bang!" The sound of gunfire broke the silence of the forest, and a bullet accurately hit the tigress's eye.

The tigress twitched a few times and then became completely motionless.

Chen Changyuan jumped down from the tree, walked to the tigress's body and examined it carefully.

"Dead, completely dead."

Chen Changyuan breathed a sigh of relief, his heart finally at ease.

"Hurry up and drag this beast into the cave!"

The old man slid down from the tree and said, "We have to get out of this damn place before the male tiger comes!"

It took great effort for the two men to drag the tigress's body into the cave.

Just as they were about to leave, a deafening tiger roar came from the distance.

"Oh no! The male tiger is coming!" Old Yuan's face changed drastically. "Run!"

The two men didn't dare to stop for a moment and ran away.

They ran all the way, not daring to look back, for fear of being caught up by the male tiger.

The tiger's roar was getting closer and closer, as if it was right behind them.

Chen Changyuan could even feel the hot breath coming out of the male tiger.

"Hurry, climb the tree!" Old Yuantou shouted, pointing to a huge pine tree next to him.

The two of them used their hands and feet to quickly climb up the pine tree.

They hid among the dense branches and leaves, not daring to breathe.

The male tiger soon caught up here. It kept wandering under the tree, roaring, as if looking for something.

"Damn, this beast has such a sharp nose!" Old Yuan cursed in a low voice.

The male tiger circled under the tree and found no trace, so he roared to the sky, his voice full of anger and sadness.

Chen Changyuan saw the male tiger through the gaps in the leaves and couldn't help feeling a little scared.

This male tiger is taller and more powerful than the female tiger, with clearer markings on his body and more ferocious eyes.

The male tiger wandered under the tree for a long time and finally left.

The two stayed in the tree for a long time, and only dared to come down after they were sure that the male tiger had really left.

"Damn it, I was scared to death!"

Old Yuantou said with lingering fear, "This male tiger is too ferocious. Fortunately, we ran fast!"

"Uncle Yuan, what should we do now?" Chen Changyuan asked.

"What else can we do? Get down the mountain!"

Old Yuantou said, "We can't stay here any longer, it's too dangerous!"

Chen Changyuan looked at the direction where the male tiger was flying away, and a bold idea came to his mind.

"Uncle Yuan,"

He spoke tentatively, "How about...we take this opportunity to take care of the male tiger as well?"

Lao Yuan looked at him as if he were a fool, his eyes almost popping out.

"Are you crazy? That beast is more vicious than a tigress. Now that his wife is gone, he's like a mad dog. Are we just going to die?"

Chen Changyuan explained:

"I'm afraid it'll follow our scent down the mountain, and then we'll be stuck. Going down now will mean death. Maybe the beast is lurking nearby, waiting for us to fall into its trap."

When Lao Yuantou heard this, he thought it made sense.

We are in the deep mountains and old forests, and we are unfamiliar with the place. If we are really targeted by the male tiger, we will have nowhere to run.

"So what do you say we should do?"

A hint of ruthlessness flashed in Chen Changyuan's eyes.

"Drag out the tigress's body and bury two mines in its stomach. When the beast passes by, it will definitely smell it first, and then..." He made an explosion gesture.

Old Yuantou took a breath of cold air.

"You kid... you're such a fucking meanie!"
