Chapter 82: Selling Tiger Skins on the Black Market

Just then, a few rapid dog barks were suddenly heard in the yard.

Immediately afterwards, a beam of dazzling light shone towards them.

"Who's there?"

A rough male voice shouted.

The man in the windbreaker took advantage of this opportunity and kicked Chen Changyuan's calf.

Chen Changyuan staggered and lost his balance.

By the time he stood firm, the man in the windbreaker had already escaped over the wall.

“Damn it!”

Chen Changyuan gritted his teeth and was about to chase after him, but suddenly remembered something.

He looked back and saw Tiger Skin still lying quietly on the ground.

After hesitating for a moment, Chen Changyuan finally chose the tiger skin.

He grabbed the tiger skin and quickly climbed over the wall.

There were hurried footsteps and dog barking behind me.

Chen Changyuan jogged all the way and only stopped to catch his breath after making sure it was safe.

He looked at the tiger skin in his hand, and remembered what the man in the windbreaker had said before, and couldn't help feeling excited.

"Five hundred dollars? That's much more than I thought."

Chen Changyuan murmured to himself, "It seems that the value of this tiger skin is far more than I imagined."

It was late at night, and Chen Changyuan found a small hotel that looked relatively clean to stay in.

In the simple room, he sat on the edge of the bed, applying medicine to the wound on his arm while thinking about his experiences tonight.

"If I hadn't been smart, I would have been cheated by these black-hearted traffickers today."

Chen Changyuan cursed under his breath, but he was thinking of a bigger plan in his mind.

Since tiger skin can be sold at such a high price, he can fully utilize his experience before rebirth and hunt these valuable prey in the deep mountains.

As long as you are careful and avoid those scammers, this will be a great way to make a fortune.

"Looks like we have to change our plans."

Chen Changyuan muttered to himself.

"I won't be going back to the village tomorrow. I have to go to the black market in the city to find out what's going on."

Early in the morning, Chen Changyuan had quietly left the small hotel.

He wrapped his clothes tightly around him and blended into the bustling crowd at the morning market.

"Where is this black market?"

Chen Changyuan frowned and muttered to himself.

He didn't dare ask passers-by rashly, for fear of arousing unnecessary suspicion.

Just as he was hesitating, a thin figure bumped into him.

"Ouch!"

The man exclaimed and apologized profusely, "I'm sorry, brother. I was in a hurry to work and didn't look at the road."

Chen Changyuan subconsciously touched his pocket and found that his wallet was still there, then he breathed a sigh of relief.

He looked at the young man in front of him who looked about fifteen or sixteen years old, and an idea suddenly came to him, and he smiled innocently.

"It's all right, little brother. I see you're on your way to work, too. I just came down from the mountains and want to find a place to sell some goods. Do you know where there's a market?"

The young man looked at Chen Changyuan warily and saw that he was wearing a coarse linen shirt and had some calluses on his hands.

He really seemed like a hunter entering the city, so he quietly moved closer.

"Brother, do you want to sell mountain products?"

The young man lowered his voice, "If you want ordinary mountain products, there's a market in the east of the city. If you want...that kind of special goods, you have to go to the 'Ghost Market' in the west of the city."

Chen Changyuan's heart moved, and he pretended to be confused and asked, "Ghost Market? What is that?"

The young man smiled strangely, "Brother, you really don't know? That place accepts everything, but... it's a little uneasy."

Chen Changyuan pretended to be enlightened and stuffed a few dollars into the young man's pocket.

"Thanks a lot, little brother. Can you take me there?"

The young man hesitated for a moment, but finally nodded.

"Okay, I'm on my way anyway."

The two walked through several quiet alleys and came to a courtyard that looked quite shabby.

The young man pointed inside.

"Brother, this is it. I have to get to work quickly, so be careful."

Chen Changyuan thanked him, watched the young man leave, took a deep breath, and pushed open the gate.

The yard was much more lively than expected, with groups of people gathered together, talking in low voices.

Chen Changyuan pretended to be nonchalant, wandering around the stalls and listening to the discussions around him.

"This batch of tiger bones is good and can be sold at a good price..."

"I heard someone got a live bear cub a while ago and made a killing..."

"The market for deer antlers is getting better and better, but it's hard to get..."

The smell of blood wafting from the wall made Chen Changyuan wrinkle his nose.

He squatted in front of a stall selling tiger bones, gently rubbing the joints with his rough fingers.

"This thing is missing its tail vertebrae, but you're still selling it as a whole. Isn't that too cruel, brother?"

The stall owner paused, his copper pipe in his mouth. A flame flickered in his cloudy eyes. "You have a sharp eye, little brother. Where are you from?"

"Qingshui Village." Chen Changyuan responded with a local accent.

"The other day, I saw someone from the neighboring village carrying a set of deer fetuses. I waited for half a month with my nose pinched, but no one made a move."

"The hottest thing right now is bear gall."

A bald man wearing a dog-skin hat suddenly appeared in the corner.

"The county hospital charged a high price the other day, regardless of whether it was black or blue, the price is now three times higher."

Half of his burn scar was exposed on his greasy cuffs, making him look like a curled up centipede.

Chen Changyuan took the opportunity to take out a cigarette wrapper and handed it over: "Old man, can you tell me the tricks?"

"It's safest to use a troll to open the way."

The man took the cigarette and tapped it against the tiger bone. "But it has to be from a state-owned forest farm, specializing in taking out bears that destroy crops."

He suddenly narrowed his eyes. "If you have a way to get a live lynx, the city zoo will charge you that much."

The stubby fingers drew a cross on Chen Changyuan's palm.

Suddenly, a muffled argument was heard from behind the gray wall.

"The Cantonese guy just needs to be gentle and have no holes in his skin..."

Chen Changyuan rubbed his way over while tying his shoelaces and saw two men in Zhongshan suits counting banknotes.

The ten-yuan bills bundled into bricks were neatly stacked in a canvas bag, with two cans of food printed with English letters on top.

When the sun climbed over the eaves, Chen Changyuan had already figured out the market situation.

Tiger skin can only be sold for three hundred yuan in a regular supply and marketing cooperative, but it can be tripled here.

The sun was just setting, and the shadow of the old locust tree in the west of the city had just swept across the iron door of the warehouse.

The black market exploded like a hornet's nest that had been poked.

Chen Changyuan squatted in the corner and studied the palm lines, but in fact he was using his peripheral vision to screen the fourteen or fifteen people in the room.

The vegetable vendor across the street touches his crotch every five minutes, probably counting the bills in the secret crotch pocket.

The old man in the felt hat seemed to be dozing off, but his ears were following the sounds of bargaining. He was definitely a trader.

The most eye-catching person was a middle-aged man wearing a Lenin suit.

She was wearing a woolen scarf and her left little finger was wrapped in gauze.

"Those who want to ship, move forward!"

Someone knocked on the enamel pot in the corner.

Chen Changyuan stood up slowly. The sun just happened to shine through the gaps in the clouds, onto the rolled tiger skin in his arms.
