"Auntie, I want the dark blue one from yesterday. It will definitely look good on my mom!"
Chen Changyuan didn't waste any words and just took out ten dollars and handed it over.
"Oh, what a filial son! Your mother will look great in this outfit!"
The auntie neatly wrapped the clothes and handed them to him, enthusiastically recommending, "Would you like to look at something else? I have some new Dacron pants here, your mother will definitely like them!"
Chen Changyuan smiled and waved his hand: "Next time, auntie, buy these today."
He didn't want to spend all his money on clothes; he had more important things to buy.
He went to the grocery counter, weighed out half a pound of canned yellow peaches, took two cans of luncheon meat, and finally picked out five greasy cured pork heads.
When passing by the dry goods area, he suddenly remembered that Lao Yuantou loved mushroom soup, so he grabbed a handful of dried mushrooms and a few pieces of cinnamon and wrapped them in oil paper.
When we walked out of the market, the sacks were already bulging and heavy.
Chen Changyuan squatted on the side of the road, carefully woven a net bag with straw for the canned food for Lao Yuantou, and hung it on the edge of the basket. He put all the other things on top of the paper bag containing the money, so that even if someone rummaged through it, they would not be able to find the huge amount of money underneath.
Chen Changyuan squeezed onto the return bus with the sack in his arms, found a seat in the last row, and hugged the sack tightly in his arms.
Chen Changyuan was about to wait for the bus back to the village when he suddenly heard someone calling him from behind: "Changyuan! Isn't this Changyuan?"
Looking back, it was Uncle Wang who drove a tractor in the village.
Uncle Wang happened to be delivering goods to the county. When he saw Chen Changyuan, he greeted him warmly: "I've just finished my work. Come on up, I'll take you home!"
Chen Changyuan climbed onto the tractor carrying the sack, secretly thanking himself for saving the fare.
As the road was bumpy, Uncle Wang chatted about all sorts of things in the village, and what he talked about most was that Zhou Dazhu and Lin Xiaoya had been quarreling every day recently.
"That educated young man Lin, he hates the Zhou family for being poor and keeps quarreling with Dazhu all day long."
Uncle Wang shook his head and said, "You said this guy from the city, how much money can we have in the countryside?"
Chen Changyuan sneered and didn't respond.
In her previous life, Lin Xiaoya was a realistic woman who would do anything for money.
When the tractor drove into the village, it happened to see several villagers chatting.
Seeing Chen Changyuan holding the bulging sack, someone immediately started to make a noise: "Hey, is Changyuan going to the city to buy treasures?"
"Yes, this big bag of things must have cost a lot of money, right?"
Chen Changyuan laughed and was about to go home when he suddenly heard a quarrel coming from not far away.
"You just complain about this and that all day long. Do you regret marrying me?"
Zhou Dazhu's voice was quite loud, at least it could be heard on the main road in the village.
"Regret? Of course I regret it!"
Lin Xiaoya screamed hysterically, "You can't even afford to buy me a new piece of clothing!"
After saying that, Lin Xiaoya ran out angrily.
Chen Changyuan didn't bother to pay attention to this farce and quickly walked home with his things.
When I opened the door, I saw Fang Suxia picking vegetables in the yard.
"Mom, I'm back!"
Chen Changyuan shouted, "Look what I bought for you!"
He put the sack on the table and took out the dark blue Dacron shirt first: "Mom, this is a new piece of clothing I bought for you. Come and try it on to see if it fits you!"
Fang Suxia looked at her son in surprise as he took out one thing after another: "Changyuan, where did you get so much money to buy all this?"
She picked up the shirt, her hands shaking. "This shirt doesn't look cheap..."
"Mom, don't worry about the money, just go and try it!"
Chen Changyuan urged, "I also bought canned food and bacon. Let's improve our diet tonight."
Fang Suxia hesitated for a moment, but still went into the house with the clothes.
After a while, she came out from the inner room wearing new clothes, looking much more energetic.
"Mom, you look so good in this dress!"
Chen Changyuan said sincerely.
Fang Suxia touched the soft fabric, her eyes reddened: "Changyuan, you kid..."
"Mom, don't cry."
Chen Changyuan quickly took out the can and said, "Look, this is canned yellow peaches, so sweet..."
Fang Suxia stroked the soft fabric, her eyes moist.
She took a deep breath and tried to control her emotions: "Changyuan, this dress is too expensive. How can our family afford to buy this?"
Chen Changyuan smiled and said, "Mom, don't worry. I went to the city to sell some things and made a lot of money. Consider this dress a gift for you."
Fang Suxia wanted to say something, but Chen Changyuan had already turned around to get the canned food.
He opened the can skillfully, and the sweet smell of yellow peaches instantly filled the house.
"Mom, try this! This is the best canned yellow peach in town."
Chen Changyuan handed his mother a spoon.
Fang Suxia hesitated for a moment, but still took a bite.
The sweet taste bloomed on the tip of her tongue, and she couldn't help but smile: "It's so sweet."
Looking at the rare smile on his mother's face, Chen Changyuan felt warm in his heart.
He secretly vowed to himself that he would make sure his mother lived a good life in this life.
"Mom, I'm going to Lao Yuantou's house and will be back soon."
As Chen Changyuan said this, he picked up the things he had prepared for Lao Yuantou and went out.
When he arrived at Lao Yuantou’s house, Chen Changyuan knocked on the door.
"Who is it?"
The old man's rough voice came from the house.
"Old Yuantou, it's me, Changyuan."
The door creaked open, and Old Yuan poked his head out. Seeing that it was Chen Changyuan, he immediately said with a smile, "Oh, Changyuan is here! Come in and sit down."
Chen Changyuan followed Lao Yuantou into the house and took out canned food and dried goods from his arms: "Lao Yuantou, this is what I brought you from the city."
