Chapter 135: One Thousand Taels of Gold

Chapter 135: One Thousand Taels of Gold

Wen Jing was extremely anxious, his eyes even reddening. He looked at the person in front of him and asked, "Master, is there any way to solve this?"

"Yes. Don't worry, arranging a marriage between a living person and a ghost is an evil ritual, and I will help you resolve this matter."

As soon as he finished speaking, Jingwu immediately made a hand seal, destroying the marriage thread between the two.

Then, he took out a talisman from his Qiankun bag and handed it to the person in front of him: "Carry this talisman with you, and you will not have nightmares from today onwards."

The moment Wen Jing took the talisman, the female ghost clinging to his shoulder instantly fled.

Ke Jingwu reached out and grabbed her, ignoring her fierce attacks, and stuffed her into his Qiankun bag, intending to deal with her when he got home.

Wen Jing felt completely relaxed. He carefully placed the talisman on his body, stood up, thanked everyone repeatedly, and was about to leave when he heard a voice behind him.

"The fact that the red cloth bag appeared precisely at your doorstep means that your birth date and time have been used by someone with malicious intent. You should investigate this further."

Wen Jing paused, then turned around and bowed respectfully: "Thank you, Master."

Then, he hurried off in another direction.

Jingwu withdrew her gaze, picked up her tea and took a sip. She glanced at the sky, then, remembering that she still had business to attend to that day, sat for a while longer.

After a while, the aroma of food wafted from every household.

Jingwu's stomach rumbled as he smelled the aroma. Since it was already noon, he thought, why not go home and have lunch before coming back?

As she was thinking this, she got up and saw a horse-drawn carriage stop in front of her stall.

A middle-aged man stepped down, bowed to her, and then spoke.

"Miss, our master invites you."

Jingwu frowned slightly. Judging from the luxuriousness of the carriage and the middle-aged man's attire, the family behind this must be extremely wealthy and powerful.

However, today's divination should not be like this.

She quickly calculated with her fingers and understood instantly.

“Miss, my master has a migraine, please come and take a look.” The man stepped forward, blocking her way. With a wave of his hand, several men appeared beside him, surrounding her as if to prevent her from leaving.

Jingwu's lips twitched, and he nodded as he looked at the scene.

Since they're so determined to invite me, then I'll go.

Jingwu sat in the carriage, looked at the interior, and silently closed his eyes.

A moment later, the carriage stopped in front of the elegant villa.

Jingwu got off the carriage and immediately noticed the barrier surrounding the villa.

She walked straight in without any expression on her face.

The middle-aged man led her to an empty front hall and said coldly, "Please wait here for a while, young lady. The master will be here soon."

The man's appearance was completely different from how he had been on the street.

Jingwu didn't respond and simply sat down in the chair.

She surveyed her surroundings, looking up at the exquisitely carved beams and down at the carpet embroidered with gold thread. To her left, she saw a mahogany table with a finely carved magnolia vase on it. To her right, she saw a masterpiece hanging on the wall.

Everything in the house was arranged to highlight the owner's status.

After observing for a moment, Jingwu looked away.

She glanced at the sky, growing impatient, and was about to ask when she heard footsteps approaching from not far away.

Jingwu looked up and saw a tall figure appear at the doorway.

He was dressed in black robes, with two black jade dragon pendants hanging at his waist, one on the left and one on the right, perfectly symmetrical.

He had a handsome face, deep eyes, and a smile on his lips, but it didn't give off a hint of kindness.

Jingwu narrowed his eyes slightly, and just by looking at his face, he knew that he had countless innocent lives on his hands, which made him feel disgusted.

“It is truly a blessing that we meet now, young lady, but it is a great pity that we are only meeting now.” Prince Hui twirled the red thumb ring on his hand, walked towards the main seat, and sat down: “Young lady, you have just come of age, haven’t you? I wonder if you have already been betrothed?”

Jingwu naturally knew what he was planning, so he didn't intend to respond and changed the subject: "Guests have been here for so long, and you haven't even offered them a cup of tea. Is this how the Prince Hui's mansion treats its guests?"

Prince Hui was slightly taken aback, then realized what he meant and said with a smile to the steward beside him, "This is your fault. How could you neglect the young lady? Hurry up and serve some tea."

The butler immediately agreed and left.

"If you haven't arranged a marriage yet, why don't you consider me?" Prince Hui steered the conversation back to the topic, his eyes filled with adoration as he stared intently at the young woman. "Would you be interested in the position of my concubine?"

He had originally planned to have one of his trusted confidants marry her, but upon seeing her, he found the girl to be composed and sharp-willed, like an untamed wild horse, which piqued his interest.

Otherwise, given her status as a wealthy businesswoman, she wouldn't be worthy of being his concubine.

Hearing this forcedly gentle tone, Jingwu couldn't help but get goosebumps. She closed her eyes, suppressing the nausea in her heart, and looked at the person in front of her.

"I don't like it."

The smile on Prince Hui's lips froze, and he gave a dry laugh: "The young lady's requirements are indeed high! But I'm afraid the young lady's status is not worthy of these requirements."

Hearing the veiled insults, Jingwu didn't pretend and said directly, "What exactly does Prince Hui want with me? If it's just this trivial matter, I'll be leaving now."

"Hey, young lady." Prince Hui immediately called out to her, his smile unchanged: "Don't be in such a hurry to leave. I was just joking. The hot tea has just been served. It's not too late for you to have a couple of sips before you go."

Seeing that the girl's expression remained unchanged, he waved his hand, signaling the butler to bring up the prepared items.

The butler immediately understood, walked to the side, brought out a box, and placed it in front of the girl.

He opened the box, and inside was a dazzling golden light.

Jingwu glanced down and saw several rows of gold ingots neatly arranged inside.

“Young lady, I know you were abandoned by your wealthy merchant parents and are now struggling to make ends meet. You want to earn some money, but you have to set up a stall on the street.” Prince Hui’s lips curled up, and he spoke with righteous indignation: “I really feel sorry for you and can’t bear to see you working so hard. There are a thousand taels of gold in this box, which will surely improve your life and that of your family.”

Jingwu withdrew his gaze and looked at the person in front of him with a half-smile: "Just say what you have to say, don't try to disgust me with these words."

A hint of displeasure flashed in the eyes of the Prince of Hui. If she weren't somewhat useful, he would have killed her long ago.

"Your words are truly hurtful to me. I don't need you to do anything; I just want you to be my advisor. What do you say? If you agree, you'll never have to worry about food, clothing, or daily necessities again, and your cousin Shao Chengrui will also make a name for himself in the court."
