Chapter 18: A Little Presumptuous
Jingwu smiled at Shao Chengrui and said, "She's injured, but she'll come back in a few days to remove the curse. Don't worry, cousin, with the talisman I gave you, she can't hurt you."
Shao Chengrui nodded, finally relieved. Turning around, he saw the boy from before.
He looked her up and down, then pulled his cousin aside and asked softly, "Do you know him? Why did he come back with you?"
“We’ve met twice,” Jingwu explained softly. “He’s a disciple of the Xuanmen sect, so we’re kindred spirits.”
Hearing this, Shao Chengrui finally felt a little relieved.
Yan Shengming, who was standing to the side, was extremely anxious. They had clearly agreed that he would get a talisman for him too, but he had forgotten about it as soon as he saw the person return.
He hurriedly stepped forward and spoke up himself.
"Cousin Shao, could you give me one of your talismans too? I can pay for it."
Jingwu frowned slightly upon hearing this form of address, but did not correct it.
She glanced at the person's face and took out a peace talisman: "Judging from your face, you will be free from illness and disaster in this life, except for one romantic calamity. If you really want a talisman, I can only give you a peace talisman."
"I want a good luck charm too." Yan Shengming immediately took the charm and carefully placed it close to his body. "How much does it cost, Cousin Shao?"
"Five hundred coins."
Without hesitation, Yan Shengming immediately took out two taels of silver from his purse and handed it to her: "I'll take four bills first."
Jingwu paused slightly, then accepted the offer; there was no reason not to do business that was offered to him.
She then took out three more amulets and handed them to the person in front of her.
He then looked down and realized he was out of talismans. It seemed he would have to go buy some more cinnabar talisman paper today.
Seeing that the sky outside was already beginning to brighten, Jingwu said to Shao Chengrui, "Cousin, I'm going back now. You should rest well these next few days and focus on your exams. I will definitely remove the curse from you before you go to Pingjiang Prefecture for the imperial examinations."
With a smile on his face, Shao Chengrui unconsciously raised his hand and patted her head: "Okay, I'll listen to Awu."
Jingwu didn't say anything more and walked out of the Zhushu Academy.
After a night of tossing and turning, she was starving and desperately needed to find a place to eat.
She walked forward, then realized someone was following her, turned around and asked, "Aren't you going back to the Xuanmen?"
Yue Huai was supposed to return to Xuanmen early this morning, but he was woken up in the middle of the night by the county magistrate's servants. He came to the academy and witnessed this incident.
When he saw Jingwu open the Gate of Hell again, he made up his mind not to leave for now.
Perhaps by following her, I can learn a little bit.
"No rush."
Jingwu glanced at him and guessed his little scheme.
He didn't say anything more, found a steamed bun shop and sat down. The aroma of the steamed buns made him even hungrier, so he immediately called out.
"Shopkeeper, one bowl of wontons and one meat bun."
The shopkeeper, with a beaming smile, brought over a steamed bun. Seeing that there was still one person sitting there, he smiled and asked, "Young master, what would you like to eat?"
"I'd like a bowl of wontons."
"Okay, coming right away."
The shopkeeper responded and quickly went inside to get to work.
Jingwu took the bun and couldn't wait to take a bite, soothing his rumbling stomach.
Soon, the shopkeeper brought out two bowls of wontons.
Jingwu blew on it and immediately started eating.
She eats with great relish, making you unconsciously want to eat along with her.
Yue Huai finished a whole bowl of wontons with her, somewhat surprised, as he wasn't particularly hungry.
He paused for a moment, and then saw Jingwu walk up to the shopkeeper, smiling broadly, and order eight more meat buns to take away before paying.
Seeing that she paid twenty-four coins, I realized that she had even paid for her own.
Jingwu walked out of the steamed bun shop in a good mood, carrying the packaged buns.
Then she went to the pastry shop and bought two packs of pastries, and went to the cinnabar shop and bought cinnabar talisman paper.
Jingwu walked out, intending to go to the orphanage, when he remembered something and turned back to look at the boy who had been following him.
"I'll be back soon. Are you going to keep following me?"
Yue Huai thought about it for a moment. Going home with her seemed a bit presumptuous. After all, she was a girl.
So he shook his head and asked again, "Will you come out again tomorrow?"
Jingwu nodded: "I will set up a stall on South Street."
Upon hearing this, Yue Huai smiled and said, "Okay, I'll come find you again tomorrow."
Jingwu knew his little scheme, so he didn't say anything and agreed.
After watching him leave, she went to the orphanage, donated half of her income, and then went home.
As soon as Jingwu entered the house, he smelled the aroma of meat patties and immediately ran into the kitchen.
Seeing her aunt's busy figure, she approached with a smile and asked, "Aunt, are we having pancakes today?"
“Awu is awake.” Ruan Chongyue didn’t turn around and continued to busy herself: “I brought back some meat from my parents’ home yesterday, so I’ll make some pancakes.”
She finished making a pancake, turned around, and saw that Jingwu's hands were full of things, with a pastry that was only available on Beida Street in his right hand. She asked in surprise.
"You went to the county so early?"
Jingwu chuckled, not intending to tell his aunt about his older cousin's affair.
So he said, "Yes, I went out to run some errands. I also bought some things on the way back. Oh, and I brought back some steamed buns."
She quickly put down her other things, took the steamed buns, and presented them to her.
"These steamed buns are delicious."
Looking at her soft little face, Ruan Chongyue couldn't resist pinching it, then picked up a bun and took a bite: "It's really delicious."
Upon hearing this, Jingwu immediately smiled and placed the remaining buns on the table.
Then, she picked up the talisman and said with a smile, "Aunt, I'm going upstairs now."
Ruan Chongyue nodded, placed the cooked pancake in a bowl, and handed it to her: "Be careful, it's hot."
"good."
Jingwu responded and went upstairs with a bowl in one hand and a talisman in the other.
She put the bowl aside, sat down at the table, and began to draw talismans.
Time passed by, and by the time the talisman was finally drawn, it was already noon.
Jingwu rubbed his sore wrists, put all the talismans into his Qiankun bag, then sat by the window with his bowl in hand, munching on the pancakes in a daze.
She had just finished eating her pancake when she heard someone knocking on the door.
When I went over to take a look, I found it was Shao Chengmin.
"What's wrong?"
"Sis, why didn't you come down to teach us martial arts today?"
Upon hearing this, Jingwu realized that he had forgotten.
She looked into those clear, pure eyes and smiled shyly, "I have something to do this morning. I'll teach you after dinner."
Upon hearing this, Shao Chengmin immediately nodded: "Okay! Then I won't disturb your rest any longer."
As soon as she finished speaking, she quickly went downstairs and relayed the information to Shao Chengyang.
Jingwu blinked, muttered to himself that they walked really fast, and then returned to the attic.
She sat cross-legged on the bed, transforming her merits into spiritual power.
I didn't go downstairs for dinner until evening.
After dinner, she rested for a while and then taught the Shao brothers, Shao Chengyang and Shao Chengmin, to continue practicing horse stance and physical fitness.
An hour later, he finally went upstairs, drenched in sweat.
Jingwu used a cleansing spell and then lay down on the bed.
The two children are full of energy and are no longer satisfied with just squatting in a horse stance.
