Chapter 54: Words Become Law

Chapter 54: Words Become Law

"What are you standing there for? Come and help!"

Seeing her husband's silly expression, Ruan Chongyue couldn't help but laugh out loud.

Soon after, the family busily moved into their new home.

This house has a main house, east and west wing rooms, and a rear house.

Shao Che and Ruan Chongyue felt that since Jingwu bought the house, she should live in the main room, while they and their third son could just squeeze in.

Jingwu didn't refuse and moved into the main house, letting Shao Che and his wife live in the east wing, and Shao Chengyang and Shao Chengmin live in the west wing. As for his eldest cousin Shao Chengrui, who liked quiet while studying, he could live in the backyard.

After this arrangement was made, no one had any objections, and everyone went back to their rooms to pack their things.

Jingwu didn't have much stuff, just a few clothes and some talismans, which he quickly packed up.

She took out the tassel she had bought on the street that day, hung it on the jade pendant, and wore it close to her body.

Just then, there was a knock on the door, and Ruan Chongyue's voice came: "Awu, it's time to eat."

"Okay." Jingwu replied and walked towards the door: "So fast."

Ruan Chongyue smiled and nodded: "You're such a thoughtful child, you replenished all the ingredients in the kitchen. I just made a few dishes. You've let us stay in this big house and taken care of our meals. How can our family ever repay you?"

When Jingwu heard this, he was stunned for a moment, then looked at her with a smile: "Aunt, I have already regarded you as family since the winter when you took me in."

Ruan Chongyue blushed as she recalled how she had been so reluctant to let her stay before the New Year.

She opened her mouth as if to say something, but felt too embarrassed to speak.

Jingwu noticed her emotions, so he pretended to be a little girl and took her hand.

"If Aunt really wants to thank me, please cook me a few more good meals. Look at me, I'm clearly seven or eight years older than Chengyang Chengmin, but I'm about the same height as them, and they're almost catching up to me!"

Ruan Chongyue looked her up and down and saw that the girl in front of her was very thin. It made sense, since she had grown up in a Taoist temple since childhood and didn't get to eat anything good. It would be strange if she could grow tall.

A hint of heartache flashed in her eyes, and she silently decided to cook more delicious food for her: "You really haven't grown taller. I'll cook more delicious food for you these next few days so you can eat more to nourish yourself."

Jingwu nodded with a smile: "Okay!"

The two walked into the dining hall with smiles on their faces and saw that the Shao family was already there, including Shao Chengrui who had returned from the academy.

Looking at the table full of dishes and smelling the aroma of the food, Jingwu couldn't help but swallow.

She couldn't wait to sit down, so she gestured for everyone around her to sit down as well.

The family sat down happily and began to eat.

Jingwu was the first to drink a bowl of old duck soup. What a delicious soup!

Immediately, he picked up his chopsticks and began to eat heartily.

Just as everyone was finishing their meal, Shao Che suddenly spoke up: "Awu, are you free tomorrow?"

Jingwu suddenly looked up, thought about his schedule, and then nodded: "Yes, what's wrong, Uncle?"

"Tomorrow we're sending your cousin off to Pingjiang Prefecture for the imperial examination. I was thinking of having our whole family see him off together."

"Okay, what time tomorrow? Has the carriage been hired?"

"Tomorrow at Chenshi (7-9 AM), we won't need a carriage. I'll take the magistrate's carriage, which will save us some money." Shao Chengrui said slowly, "The magistrate said that he has booked my accommodation in Pingjiang Prefecture. It's right next to Brother Shengming's place."

Jingwu immediately recognized the person's face and thought he wasn't a bad person, so he felt relieved: "That's good, at least I'll have someone to keep me company."

However, even after finishing dinner, Jingwu was still worried. He went back to his main room, found a dusty purse, stuffed in ten taels of silver notes, and then added a few peace charms.

She took the purse and walked towards the backyard, knocking on Shao Chengrui's door.

The door opened quickly.

Shao Chengrui stared blankly at the girl standing in front of his door for a moment, then smiled and let her in.

"Ah Wu, what's the matter so late?"

Jingwu handed him the pouch and said, "There are several talismans inside. Keep them close to your body. There is also a communication talisman. If you encounter danger, burn this talisman, and I will sense it."

Upon hearing this, Shao Chengrui immediately took the purse and held it tightly in his hand, saying, "Don't worry, Awu, I will keep it close to my body."

Seeing his serious expression, Jingwu chuckled. Noticing his nervousness, he smiled and reassured him, "Don't worry, cousin, you'll definitely pass the exam."

Shao Chengrui looked at the girl in front of him, forced a smile, and patted her head: "Thank you for your kind words."

Seeing that he accepted the purse, Jingwu didn't say anything more to him, turned around and left, returning to his own room.

Shao Chengrui closed the door, opened his purse, and planned to take out the talisman and hang it around his neck.

Unexpectedly, a ten-tael silver note fell out.

Looking at the silver note, Shao Chengrui felt a surge of warmth in his heart.

After returning to his room, Jingwu washed up and went to bed.

The next day, remembering that she was to take her cousin to the imperial examination, she deliberately got up.

After washing up, she simply fixed her beautiful hair with a wooden hairpin, changed into a blue dress, and went outside.

When Jingwu reached the gate, he saw three carriages belonging to the county magistrate parked in front of his own gate.

She was stunned. Wasn't she supposed to be going to the magistrate's office to see her cousin off? Why were the magistrate's carriages here?

Before she could even ask the question, she saw Yan Shengming jump down from the carriage, walk up to her, and smile.

“Master, I heard that you are also seeing Brother Chengrui off today, so I specially sent a carriage to pick him up. That way, you can send the two of us off.”

Before Jingwu could speak, Yan Shengming clasped his hands together and bowed to her, saying, "Master, please bless me so that I can pass the exam!"

"Huh?" Jingwu looked at him in confusion upon hearing this: "I am a fortune teller, not a Wenquxing (God of Literature) enshrined in a temple."

Yan Shengming looked at her with a grin: "Pretty much, pretty much."

Jingwu gave a helpless twitch of his lips. This is hardly close; it's clearly far from it!

At this moment, a serious-looking man walked over and said, "Ming'er, stop fooling around, it's time to go."

Upon hearing this, Yan Shengming immediately became obedient: "I understand, Father."

After saying this, he called Shao Chengrui to get into the carriage together.

Jingwu said to his cousin, "Cousin, I wish you a smooth journey and that you will win the championship!"

"Thank you, cousin." Shao Chengrui smiled gently and accepted the blessing.

Upon seeing this, Yan Shengming immediately stepped forward: "Me too, me too! Master, please bless me as well."

Jingwu paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "I also wish you a safe journey and success in the imperial examination."

Yan Shengming was now satisfied. With the master's golden words, he was sure he would succeed this time.

So he skipped and hopped onto the carriage.

If Jingwu knew what he was thinking, his lips would definitely twitch.

She was just a fortune teller, not a sorcerer whose words could become law!
