Chapter 217: A Ghost!
Jing Shu was still wearing a bright red dress, adorned with a head full of pearls and jade, and wearing heavy makeup.
She collapsed to the ground, staring at the coffin in front of her, trembling all over.
Just now, I was admiring the flowers in the courtyard when a gust of wind came and I was suddenly grabbed by the collar. In the blink of an eye, I was here.
Jing Shu knew, of course, that Shao Wanyan was dead, since the jailer had come to the Prince Hui’s residence to report it first.
But he really didn't know how to face the man who killed his mother, so he simply pretended not to know.
When Shao Chengrui came to report the death, she knew it herself, but Prince Hui was in her courtyard at the time, so she naturally couldn't leave.
I had planned to visit my mother's grave in a couple of days, but I never expected to be dragged here today.
Looking at her disheveled state, Jing Shu gritted her teeth and almost wanted to get up and fight back, but she knew she was no match for him, so she could only swallow her anger.
She glanced at her father beside her and felt a strange sense of balance. Thankfully, she wasn't the only one who was in such a sorry state.
"She doted on you the most when she was alive. Are you going to turn a blind eye to her death just because you're not her son?"
Jingwu glanced at the woman on the ground, his eyes filled with an undeniable chill.
Upon hearing this, Jing Ming looked at her incredulously.
How did Ah Wu find out?!
She was just a tiny baby back then, and moreover, she was sent to a Taoist temple right after birth. She shouldn't have known about this!
Jing Shu twitched the corner of her mouth, deciding to drop the pretense and turn the tables on him.
“I am a concubine of Prince Hui, and my conduct should be in accordance with the rules of the Prince’s residence. I originally intended to inform the Prince later before coming to keep vigil for my mother, but I did not expect you to be in such a hurry that you had me arrested.”
Jingwu glanced at her and scoffed softly.
“Since you have such filial piety, why didn’t you report the news to Prince Hui when the jailer came to report it? And you’re dressed so brightly, you don’t look like someone who has lost his mother.”
"Jingwu, don't go too far! I just didn't have time to change my clothes!" Jing Shu stood up abruptly, staring straight at her: "I know you're jealous of how much my mother dotes on me, but you can't pin the label of unfilial piety on me. After all, you're the one who sent my mother to jail."
Upon hearing this, Jing Ming stood up shakily and pointed at the person in front of him.
"She is your mother! Even if she did something wrong, you shouldn't have sent her to prison and caused her death! Jingwu, Jingwu, you have such a cruel heart!"
Jingwu looked at the pretentious father and daughter in front of him and sneered repeatedly.
“Jing Shu, since you are so filial, why did you stop trying to rescue Shao Wanyan after you found out she wasn’t your biological mother? For a whole two weeks, you were vying for the Prince’s favor with those concubines and maids in the palace, and you were really fighting for it.”
Seeing the man's face darken, Jing Wu stopped speaking and turned to look at Jing Ming, a hint of sarcasm flashing in his eyes.
"As for you, you raised your concubine's child under Shao Wanyan's care for over a decade, deceiving her for just as long. While she was pregnant, you colluded with a widow. While she was in prison, you were having an affair with several courtesans. Now that you're dead, you're putting on this act of deep affection—is it for the living to see?"
Jing Ming's face instantly turned cold. All the secrets he kept in his heart had been exposed by his daughter, and he felt even more disgusted with her.
If he had known this daughter would embarrass him like this, he should have strangled her when she was born. She really is like her mother, with the same vicious heart as Shao Wanyan.
Jingwu didn't care what he was thinking. Looking at the memorial tablet in front of him, he made hand seals and set up an array in the mourning hall.
"Since you are so sincere, then keep vigil for her. Keep vigil for three days and three nights, and on the morning of the fourth day, hold her funeral."
As soon as he finished speaking, without caring about the reactions of the two people, he grabbed the hand of the boy beside him and teleported back to his own courtyard.
Jing Shu panicked when she heard her words.
He immediately rushed to the door, trying to open it, only to find that there was a barrier in the air, and he couldn't touch the door at all.
"Let me out, Jingwu, let me out right now! Tonight, Prince Hui is finally coming to my courtyard, don't ruin my plans!"
Jing Shu screamed at the sky in despair, but no one responded. Then, in a fit of rage, she walked up to her father and roared.
"Father, look at this! How could she do this? How could she lock us up in the mourning hall?"
Hearing his youngest daughter's words, Jingming felt somewhat displeased. After all, her mother, who had raised her for more than ten years, had died. Couldn't she even keep vigil at the funeral hall?
He found a place to sit down, pursed his lips, and said helplessly, "What can I do? She learned a lot of skills from those Taoist priests; she can crush us like ants. What can I do?"
"Father, tonight it's Prince Hui..."
"Alright, alright, your mother raised you for so many years, what's wrong with you keeping vigil for her?" Jing Ming was annoyed by the noise and rubbed his throbbing temples: "Stop thinking about your Prince Hui, he's not going anywhere, there will be plenty of opportunities in the future."
Hearing this, Jing Shu was also very angry. Just as she was about to speak, she saw the candlelight in the mourning hall flicker.
Then, a strong wind blew up.
Something got into Jing Shu's eyes. She closed her eyes and rubbed them. When she opened them again, she saw a deathly pale face in front of her.
Her eyes widened suddenly, and the next second, she screamed.
"ah!!!"
Jing Shu scrambled to hide behind her father, shielding him in front of her.
"What are you doing? What are you doing? Have you seen a ghost?" Jing Ming was very unhappy with her actions and glared at her.
“There’s…there’s a ghost, there’s a ghost…” Jing Shu hid behind him, trembling, not daring to open her eyes.
But the next second, a gust of wind brushed past my ear, and a familiar voice entered my ears.
"I love you so much, and you won't even keep vigil for me?"
Upon hearing this, Jing Shu's eyes widened instantly, and goosebumps rose all over her body.
This...this voice...it's my mother's!
"Ah...a ghost!"
"What are you yelling about? Where's the ghost?" Jing Ming was terrified by the sudden noise. He turned around abruptly and scanned his surroundings, but couldn't see any ghosts. "Where are the ghosts? Stop yelling!"
Jing Shu squatted on the ground, clutching her head tightly, and pointed to the side with one hand.
"It's right here, it's Mother! Mother is right here!"
Upon hearing this, Jing Ming immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
"What are you afraid of? She spoils you so much, she won't eat you!"
