Chapter 102: Heartbreaking
The doctor sighed as he applied medicine to Cui Tao.
After a long pause, she came out and said to the man, "I just checked, and they're all superficial wounds. However, the wounds are too deep. If we had come any later, they might have bled to death. How did you get like this? Did you run into bandits?"
Cui Yi pursed her lips, her eyes red as she looked at the doctor: "She was beaten by her husband."
"Oh my, this is absolutely inhuman!" the doctor exclaimed, then continued, "What kind of husband beats his wife like that..."
Cui Yi didn't hear a word the doctor said next. He glanced at his sister sleeping peacefully behind the screen and breathed a sigh of relief.
He asked the doctor to look after his sister, and then went back to the peddler's house.
The door remained tightly shut, so he raised his hand and knocked three or four times.
It took quite a while before someone came to open the door.
It was the peddler's second wife again. She opened the door a crack, saw it was him, and immediately tried to close it.
However, Cui Yi was not one to tolerate her. He kicked the door open, knocking her to the ground.
He casually picked up the washing stick that was lying next to him and said as he walked.
"Where is that kid? Show yourself! You fucking beat my sister up like this, I'll beat you to death!"
The peddler was now hiding under the bed, trembling with fear. He had just seen his brother-in-law's muscles; if he got beaten up, he wouldn't survive.
Cui Yi walked toward the house, but before he had taken two steps, he saw an old woman with gray hair rush up and grab his leg.
"Oh dear, what a disaster! We married a barren hen, and now we're being beaten by her family. Heavens, what kind of disaster have we committed?"
This display of crying, making a scene, and threatening suicide made Cui Yi stop in his tracks. He frowned and stared at the person in front of him.
"What do you mean by that? What do you mean by a hen that doesn't lay eggs?"
He clearly remembered passing by this place once and asking a neighbor about it. The neighbor mentioned that his sister was pregnant.
Why does this old woman say it's a hen that doesn't lay eggs?
The old lady wiped her nose and snorted, "That wretched girl Cui Tao has been married into our family for so many years, and she hasn't given me a single grandson or granddaughter. What else could she be but a barren hen?"
"You're talking nonsense! When I came last time, I clearly heard that she was already pregnant."
A hint of guilt flashed in the old woman's eyes, and she said vaguely, "She was weak, so she miscarried."
Having traveled all over the country for so many years, Cui Yi was not easily fooled. He immediately grabbed her collar and asked fiercely, "Explain yourself clearly, how did it happen?"
The old woman's legs were pulled off the ground. She struggled frantically for a moment, but when she met the fierce look in the eyes of the person in front of her, she immediately felt guilty.
"Will you talk or not?" Cui Yi threatened viciously, holding a washing stick.
"I only asked her to chop some firewood, and she fell on the mountain and miscarried. After that, her health was damaged, and she never conceived again." The old woman continued, even more self-righteously, "She can't have children, and instead of asking my son to divorce her, she dares to gossip about my next wife. Tell me, what a jealous woman..."
Upon hearing her words, Cui Yi felt a surge of anger. He wanted to beat the woman in front of him, but the old woman was too old, and if he really beat her, it could lead to someone's death.
He rolled his eyes, loosened his grip, and the old woman instantly fell to the ground.
They forcibly broke into the house and conducted a search.
Finally, they found the peddler shivering under the bed.
Cui Yi dragged the man out and hit him on the buttocks with a stick.
"Ah! Brother-in-law, I was wrong, I was wrong, please don't hit me anymore." The peddler was hit hard this time, and his buttocks felt a burning pain. Tears immediately fell down his face, and he quickly begged for mercy.
"Who's your brother-in-law?" Cui Yi was furious, wishing he could beat the person in front of him to death. "I'm asking you, what exactly did my Xiao Tao do to you? You beat her like this, she almost died!"
After saying this, he struck him hard on the waist with the stick again.
Hearing the peddler's screams, Cui Yi didn't stop, continuing his actions one after another.
He didn't even consider the person's answer, because he knew that the person in front of him definitely wouldn't dare to tell the truth.
After a while, the peddler's screams weakened, and he seemed to be breathing more gasp than he was breathing.
Cui Yi stopped and kicked him hard in the butt.
Then, he was pulled to the desk and forced to write a divorce agreement and sign his name.
After Cui Yi got the divorce papers, he kicked him in the stomach again, and after hearing his screams, he took the divorce papers and returned to the clinic.
As soon as he entered the clinic, he saw that his sister had already woken up, and he immediately went to check on her.
Looking at her brother whom she had been longing for day and night, Cui Tao felt incredibly wronged and burst into tears, hugging the person in front of her.
Over the years, she has suffered from her mother-in-law's difficult treatment, being forced to chop firewood in the cold winter and fetch water in the scorching summer.
Even when she was pregnant, she never had a day off. Even after she was so exhausted that she miscarried, she only stayed in bed for two days before being forced to get out of bed and work again.
Because of this, her health didn't recover properly, and she never conceived again. Her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law mocked her, calling her a hen that couldn't lay eggs.
Every time Cui Tao heard such words, she felt heartbroken, but her husband turned a deaf ear and acted as if he hadn't heard them at all.
She felt heartbroken and wanted to divorce him and go home countless times, but the thought of her father's resolute eyes always terrified her.
This time, the husband got involved with a woman who runs a tea shop. It is said that the woman is willing to pay for him to open a general store on the condition that he marry her.
When Cui Tao learned of this, she was heartbroken. The grievances she had endured for many years finally erupted, and she had a huge fight with her husband that night.
Ultimately, it was a slap from her husband that completely broke her heart.
She wanted to see what the woman looked like, so she went to the teahouse.
I glanced at it from afar and saw a woman with a slender figure and pretty face busy working in the teahouse.
Thinking about her deformed body and sallow, emaciated face, Cui Tao returned home feeling ashamed.
As soon as she got home, her mother-in-law questioned her about whether she had gone to the tea shop. She answered that she had. Then, her husband rushed out, dragged her into the woodshed, and punched her repeatedly in the face and body.
She could sense that this time, her husband was determined to kill her.
Cui Tao was filled with despair. Images of her father, mother, and brother flashed through her mind, and she regretted countless times why she had married the person in front of her.
She gradually lost consciousness, and in her daze, she seemed to hear her brother's voice and managed to make a sound with all her might.
Fortunately, it really was her brother who came to save her!
