Chapter Sixteen: The Heart-Eating Gu
Yi Wanzhou lowered her eyes to conceal the sharpness within. No matter what had happened, tonight, she was determined to make him drink the soup containing the Gu seed and implant the love Gu into Yan Shengming's body.
Otherwise, her father would really marry her off to this poor boy.
Yi Wanzhou looked at the person in front of her, her eyes turning cold. Her father said he was perfect in every way, with a limitless future, but wasn't he just a poor boy who couldn't even afford ten taels of silver for a betrothal gift?
Since she could marry into the county magistrate's household and enjoy a life of luxury, why would she marry him and suffer?
With this in mind, Yi Wanzhou made up her mind.
She took out the offspring of the Heart-Eating Gu, raised her eyes, and patted the shoulder in front of her.
Shao Chengrui subconsciously turned around and met a pair of eyes with a hint of red.
The next second, he felt a burning sensation on his chest. He instinctively tried to dodge, but then he smelled a fragrance.
In an instant, he felt the world spinning, his vision blurred, and something crawled into his ear.
The next second, a spell rang out, and he felt his body go out of control and lose consciousness.
Yi Wanzhou looked at the man who resembled a puppet and a smile appeared on her lips.
She handed him the food box and said coquettishly, "Brother Rui, remember to share the soup at the bottom with Yan Shengming."
Shao Chengrui nodded blankly and carried the food box back into the house step by step.
He slowly placed the food box on the table, took out the bowl of soup underneath, and walked towards Yan Shengming.
Yan Shengming turned around at the sound, still smiling and joking, "Oh, Miss Yi brought you soup?"
Seeing that he didn't reply, but simply handed the soup to her, she asked in surprise.
"Miss Yi gave this to you, and you're willing to give it to me?"
Shao Chengrui was controlled and unable to speak, only holding the soup and waiting for him to take it.
Just as Yan Shengming was about to place his hand on the soup, Shao Chengrui felt a heat from the talisman he had placed on his chest, his hand trembled, and the soup bowl fell to the ground, spilling everywhere.
Yan Shengming was stunned by the fall. When he looked up again, he realized that the person in front of him was still in the same position, and that something was wrong.
"What’s wrong with you?"
Shao Chengrui remained expressionless, staring blankly ahead with his hands still outstretched, holding the soup bowl.
Yan Shengming shivered. Could he be possessed? He immediately ran out to call a doctor.
Seeing him rush out, Yi Wanzhou, who was outside the door, immediately came in to check on him.
She was furious when she saw the soup spilled all over the floor. All the effort she had put into cultivating the Gu seed had been wasted like this.
Looking at the dull-witted Shao Chengrui, Yi Wanzhou was afraid that this matter would be exposed, so she decided to activate the Heart-Eating Gu to devour him completely and leave no evidence.
Just as she was chanting the incantation to activate the Gu, she saw a golden light emanate from the chest of the person in front of her, striking her directly and burning a patch of her back.
Yi Wanzhou thought that people from the Xuanmen sect had arrived, so she hurriedly climbed out the window and escaped.
Meanwhile, in the nearby Green Bamboo Village, Jingwu, who was fast asleep, opened his eyes.
She noticed her talisman burning and knew her older cousin was in danger.
So, the next second, she wrapped herself in her cotton-padded coat, made a hand seal, and teleported to where her older cousin was.
When Jingwu arrived at the academy, he saw the dull-witted Shao Chengrui and immediately went to check on him, only to discover that he had Gu worms in his body.
Her face darkened, and she made a hand seal and chanted an incantation, sending a golden light into his body.
He then looked at the rib soup spilled all over the ground and frowned.
It smells like a Gu poison.
After regaining his senses, Shao Chengrui felt the world spinning and his vision blurred.
He rubbed his temples, then opened his eyes and saw the person in front of him: "Awu, what are you doing here?"
Jingwu stood up, looking at him with clear eyes, before speaking: "Big cousin, where's the talisman I gave you?"
Shao Chengrui hurriedly reached for the talisman he kept close to his body, only to find his hand covered in burnt ash: "This, what is this? How could this be?"
"You were just poisoned with a Heart-Eating Gu. The talisman I gave you can save your life once, but it will self-immolate and become ineffective after the crisis is over." Jingwu looked at the person in front of him and asked seriously, "Where is the person who gave you the soup?"
"You mean Miss Yi? She was just at the door." At this point, Shao Chengrui suddenly realized and looked around: "Hey, my roommate who was just staying with me was here too."
Upon hearing this, Jingwu immediately understood: "The magistrate's son?"
Shao Chengrui nodded, suddenly realizing something. Just as he was about to speak, he saw the person in front of him squat down and hold the broken pieces of the bowl in his palm.
Jingwu calculated the location of her by following the scent on the fragment.
She took out a new talisman and handed it to the person in front of her: "Big cousin, keep this talisman safe and wait here for me to come back. I will definitely catch her and remove the curse for you."
After saying that, he prepared to make a hand seal and leave, intending to capture Yi Wanzhou, who had escaped home.
The next second, Yan Shengming rushed in with a man.
"Master, look! It's him!"
He was bent over, panting, and after a while, when he didn't hear a response, he looked up to check.
"Arui, are you alright?"
When Shao Chengrui learned that he had been poisoned by a Gu worm, he didn't know whether to nod or shake his head. He turned to look at Jing Wu and saw his cousin staring at another man who had come with her.
Jing Wu stopped what he was doing, looked at the person in front of him, and narrowed his eyes. The young man was surrounded by a lot of spiritual energy, and his face was still cold and aloof, giving off an unapproachable aura.
Isn't this the prodigy Yue Huai? An old acquaintance.
However, there's no time for reminiscing now; capturing Yi Wanzhou to remove the curse is the most important thing.
Thinking this, he immediately made a hand seal and chanted an incantation, disappearing from the room.
Yan Shengming stared at the scene with his mouth agape: "Where...where are they?"
Shao Chengrui thought for a moment, then told him what had happened, and then said, "I was bewitched by Yi Wanzhou, and Awu went to catch him and bring him back to remove the curse for me."
As soon as he finished speaking, Yue Huai immediately cast a spell and followed Jing Wu's aura.
"Where did he go again?" Yan Shengming was still reeling from what had just happened, and now another person had vanished into thin air.
Shao Chengrui shook his head, sat down in the chair, and couldn't help but worry about his little cousin.
Jing Wu had already caught up with Yi Wanzhou and arrived at her lair, deep in a forest.
She looked at the entrance that was hidden by an illusion, threw out a talisman, and broke the illusion.
Then, a narrow path paved with pebbles appeared in front of them.
Jingwu went inside without hesitation.
After walking for a while, a two-story wooden house came into view.
She looked at the snake clinging to the eaves, staring at her menacingly. Her mind raced, and just as she was about to do something, she heard a calm, steady female voice.
"Young lady, there's no road ahead. You should turn back the way you came."
Jingwu knew this was a sound transmission spell, so he also recited a sound transmission incantation to reply.
"I have come here to find Yi Wanzhou."
