Chapter 84: It's Master Jiang again
Upon hearing this, Ruan Ming remained silent for a moment, then sighed softly and said no more.
His awkward personality made him too embarrassed to ask the county magistrate for money.
When the man approached him, he only told him to take him into the granary and bury the wooden sign in the ground. He didn't mention at all that it would attract black insects that would eat the grain.
By the time he found out, it was too late. Although he was filled with regret, he had already spent almost all the silver notes he had received.
In addition, he didn't have the courage to go out and admit his mistake, so he kept putting it off.
Jingwu stepped forward and asked, "What does the person who came to you look like? What's their name?"
Ruan Ming immediately raised his eyes and said hurriedly, "I don't remember what he looks like, nor do I know his name. I only know that the people who follow him call him Master Jiang, and he has a tuft of white beard."
Jingwu frowned deeply upon hearing this surname.
It's Master Jiang again; this is the third time.
Did he touch anything on you?
Ruan Ming shook his head: "No, I haven't seen him since he gave me the silver notes."
Jingwu remembered this, and as soon as he was released from prison, he went to see the silver note that served as evidence.
At a glance, it was clear that there was no trace of any mystic's aura remaining on it.
She clicked her tongue slightly in displeasure, but quickly suppressed her emotions.
Yue Huai noticed this and immediately sent a message back to the Xuanmen sect, asking his master to investigate which Xuanshu practitioners with the surname Jiang were involved in practicing evil arts.
Seeing that he couldn't find any clues here, Jingwu didn't want to stay any longer. He turned around and said goodbye to the boy, "I'm going back."
Yue Huai paused, a hint of hesitation flashing in his eyes. He lowered his gaze and thought for a moment: "I have to go back to Xuanmen to report. I'll be back in five days at most."
Hearing this, Jingwu blinked, then nodded: "Okay, then I'll head back now."
As soon as she finished speaking, she used a teleportation spell to return to her home.
The person who appeared out of nowhere startled Ruan Chongyue, who happened to be walking into the courtyard. She breathed a sigh of relief after seeing who it was.
"Awu, why did you suddenly come back?"
"Aunt, the matter has been resolved, so I came back early." Jingwu looked at her with a smile, and seeing that she was holding something, she asked, "Aunt, are these things needed for the shop?"
“Yes.” Ruan Chongyue replied, holding the basket in her hand. “By the way, Awu, someone came looking for you. I just sent them away. If you go out now, you can definitely call them back.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she turned around and was about to walk out the door to call someone.
"Hey, Aunt, don't go." Jingwu called out to her, and said with a soft laugh, "She will come again tomorrow morning."
"Ah Wu, do you know who it is?"
Jingwu nodded: "A person with a special connection came to me for help."
Upon hearing this, Ruan Chongyue stopped asking questions, offered a few words of concern, and then went about her own business.
Jingwu walked into the backyard and saw that the woman inside the formation had already recovered her beauty, and was even more beautiful than before.
She watched quietly until the woman opened her eyes.
As soon as Yao Chenbi opened her eyes, she saw a familiar figure standing in front of her, and a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes.
She quickly stepped out of the formation, a smile on her face: "Master, you're back!"
Jingwu nodded: "Your face has almost fully recovered. What are your plans next?"
Yao Chenbi thought the person in front of her was giving her the boot, so her face darkened. She lowered her eyes for a long time before speaking softly.
“I have no plans. My reputation is ruined, and no one will ever marry me again. I'm all alone, it's the same no matter where I am.”
As she spoke, she recalled her past experiences, and her eyes welled up with tears.
Jingwu opened his mouth, about to speak, when the person in front of him spoke again.
"Master, can you take me in?" Yao Chenbi knelt down with a thud and added urgently, "I won't eat and drink for free. I am proficient in arithmetic and can work as an accountant for Madam's shop. I only beg you to take me in."
Her reputation is ruined now. She's a weak woman, and without the master, anyone can trample on her. She might as well cling to the master and find a safe haven.
Jingwu sighed softly and helped the man up: "I didn't say I was going to kick you out. You can stay if you want. If you want to help out at the shop, that's fine too. I'll have my aunt calculate your wages."
"Really?"
Jingwu nodded: "But there's one thing you need to tell me the truth."
"Is the master referring to Feng Runqian?"
Jingwu nodded: "Yes, if you had hardened your heart, he would have died in three to five days. But so much time has passed and he is still alive and well. What are you thinking?"
Yao Chenbi hesitated for a moment before revealing his plan: "I plan to let him enjoy a good life for a while, and then use the flying needle technique on the day of the provincial examination. I'll make him go to the examination hall full of expectations, and then come down in despair. He prides himself on being a high-minded scholar, so I'll make all his efforts of the past twenty years go to waste."
Upon hearing this, Jingwu couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
After Yao Chenbi finished speaking, she realized that the expression on the person in front of her was somewhat subtle. Fearing that the master would think she was too cruel, she wanted to open her mouth to make amends and make sure the person in front of her would speak.
"This plan is excellent. The imperial examination is still two months away, don't forget."
After giving his reminder, Jingwu returned to his bedroom and took a nap.
In the evening, he went to his aunt's east wing, knocked on the door, and went in after receiving permission.
"aunt."
"A-Wu is here, please sit down." Ruan Chongyue, while busy with her embroidery, gestured for her to sit down: "Is there anything I can help you with?"
Jingwu took out a purse containing two hundred taels of silver notes and handed it over.
“Aunt, with the addition of a new family member recently, I’ve been very busy and haven’t been able to keep track of household expenses. Please accept this money; part of it is to cover previous household expenses, and the rest is for the next two months’ household expenses.”
“Awu, how can I accept your money?” Ruan Chongyue refused to accept the purse no matter what: “Our family has already caused you a lot of trouble. I’m just paying for some groceries. It’s only right that I do this.”
“Aunt, please accept it. One thing at a time. Besides, this isn’t just for you; it’s the family’s household expenses for the next two months.”
Unable to refuse, Ruan Chongyue was forcefully stuffed into her bosom. She smiled helplessly and said, "Having you is truly a blessing the Shao family has accumulated over several lifetimes."
Hearing this, Jingwu felt a warmth in his heart, smiled and said a few words before changing the subject: "Aunt, what are you doing?"
“I made two sets of clothes for you little ones. They’re just finished. You can wear them when the seasons change.” Ruan Chongyue looked at her with a gentle expression and loving eyes. “Little Awu has grown quite a bit taller and a little chubby.”
