Chapter Twelve: Don't you care about family at all?
Seeing his respectful demeanor, Jingwu knew that his business today was with the Wei family, so he nodded, closed the door, and followed him out of the courtyard.
As soon as I stepped out of the courtyard, I saw a black carriage.
Steward Wei respectfully helped her into the carriage, and Jing'er followed closely behind, getting into the carriage and sitting beside her.
To avoid suspicion, Steward Wei sat outside with the coachman.
The carriage swayed and rocked. Jingwu was feeling sleepy, but the gaze of the person next to him was too intense, making it impossible for him to fall asleep.
"You have something to ask me?"
When Jing'er saw her suddenly open her eyes, her burning gaze still lingering, half of her face immediately turned red.
"Master, I would like to ask about my daughter's marriage prospects." She sighed as she said this: "My daughter is almost twenty-five years old and has not yet found a suitable person. People around us are talking about it, saying that she will never get married. I just want to ask for peace of mind."
“You don’t need to worry. Your daughter will get through this ordeal, and her true love will appear within half a year.” As soon as he finished speaking, Jingwu suddenly thought of something and said, “Tell your master to travel south for the next six months. Perhaps he can meet his future son-in-law sooner.”
Jing'er was overjoyed upon hearing this and immediately thanked him, saying, "Thank you, Master. I will definitely tell you the truth when I get back."
Jingwu smiled but didn't say anything more, closing his eyes and pretending to sleep.
Before long, the carriage stopped, and Steward Wei lifted the curtain and respectfully invited her to get off.
As soon as Jingwu stepped off the carriage, he looked up at the Wei family compound shrouded in black mist, his brows furrowed.
"Master, this way please."
Butler Wei led the people inside and headed towards the tea room.
Jingwu surveyed the entire place and found no problems with the feng shui. Therefore, it must be the work of an evil spirit.
She entered the tea room and saw a middle-aged man sitting in the main seat. He had a square face, long eyebrows, and bright eyes, and looked like a long-lived person.
When Master Wei saw that the person was a young girl, his expression immediately changed.
He looked at his butler with a questioning look in his eyes, only to see Butler Wei nod in confirmation.
Master Wei wanted to ask the maids of the Shen family, but Jing'er didn't go inside. She got off the carriage and went back to the Shen family.
He still couldn't believe that such an accurate fortune teller was actually a young girl. He had sent someone to invite people from the Xuanmen sect a few days ago, but the journey was long, and he hadn't heard from them yet.
If his wife hadn't fallen ill from fright yesterday, and his granddaughter, who was less than two months old, hadn't been so frightened that she developed a high fever and nearly died, he wouldn't have rushed to have this master invited over when he heard Brother Shen mention her.
Forget it, the Xuanmen sect still hasn't given any word, so we can only try anything as a last resort. If it really doesn't work, we'll have to follow the Jing family's example and move the whole family.
"Master, please have a seat."
Jingwu noticed their flirtatious exchange but pretended not to see it and sat down on a chair to the side.
Seeing her sit down, Master Wei ordered his servants to serve tea: "Master, the mansion has been haunted recently, and my wife and granddaughter have fallen ill from fright. Can you send them to the underworld? The reward is negotiable."
Jingwu took a sip of tea, and a delicate fragrance immediately filled his mouth.
She glanced down at the tea leaves inside and then replied, "Okay, when did it start?"
Master Wei sighed, "It started two months ago when ghostly figures began appearing in the manor. The servants on night watch encountered them and reported it, but I didn't take it seriously, thinking it was just nighttime and they were seeing things. Then, a month ago, my granddaughter suddenly developed a high fever. Her wet nurse said that a ghost had entered in the middle of the night. I immediately ordered someone to fetch people from the Xuanmen sect, but the journey is long, and there's been no word from them yet. These past few days, my granddaughter's condition has worsened, and even my wife has fallen ill from fright."
Upon hearing this, Jingwu looked at his face and saw that the children's palace was gloomy and one of the children's lines was broken. He then asked, "Did you recently lose a child?"
Master Wei nodded, his expression complex: "Yes, it's a family scandal. My youngest son took a fancy to his classmate Jin Chan and actually poisoned him to death. It was retribution; he died of a heart attack as soon as he was convicted in prison."
Jingwu frowned upon hearing this. What a coincidence?
She stood up and said, "Take me to see the sick person."
Master Wei nodded, got up and led her into the inner courtyard, first into Madam Wei's bedroom.
Upon entering, a chilling aura immediately hits you.
"My wife was thinking about her youngest son and couldn't sleep at night, so she went to his room and reminisced about him. The next day, she also developed a high fever, which hasn't subsided yet."
Jingwu frowned as he looked at the woman on the bed, who was enveloped in yin energy and mumbling something in a daze.
"She was possessed by yin energy; there was something unclean in that room."
"Yes, it's like a ghost has appeared. Otherwise, how come more than a dozen doctors have examined the patient and still can't figure out the cause of the illness?"
Jingwu formed hand seals and chanted incantations to dispel the yin energy within her body.
The next moment, the woman on the bed regained some color in her face and opened her eyes.
She was a little dazed, and then fell into a deep sleep again.
"Madam?" When Master Wei saw that she had closed her eyes again, he rushed forward to check on her anxiously.
"She's fine now. Just have the doctor prescribe some medicine to dispel the cold." Jingwu stopped him from shaking the woman, then asked, "Is your sick granddaughter your youngest son's child?"
Mr. Wei nodded: "Yes, it's only two months old."
Hearing this, Jingwu guessed what was going on, but didn't say anything. He followed him to his granddaughter's room.
As soon as I entered, I saw a young woman in a white dress rushing out, and I almost bumped into her.
Mr. Wei frowned, somewhat displeased with her outburst: "Xia Tang, where are you rushing off to?"
With tears welling in her eyes, Xia Tang choked out, "Father, something's wrong with Chu'er. She can't breathe. I need to find a doctor right away."
Upon hearing this, Master Wei immediately instructed his steward to fetch the doctor and headed inside.
Jingwu followed him inside, where the heavy, eerie atmosphere persisted. In the cradle lay a tiny body.
A pair of hands gripped her neck tightly, her face flushed red.
Jingwu immediately reached out and made a hand seal, imprinting a mark onto the owner of those hands, thus repelling him.
Immediately, he made hand seals and chanted incantations to dispel the yin energy from the baby's body.
Only then did Mr. Wei remember that he had brought a master with him. Seeing his little granddaughter panting with her mouth open, her complexion gradually regaining its color, he finally asked, "Master, my little granddaughter, she..."
Jingwu turned to look at Xia Tang, then spoke to the corner: "Why take out your anger on the child when it's the adults' fault?"
Everyone looked in the direction she was looking, and saw that the corner was empty. Remembering the ghost stories that had been circulating in the mansion these past few days, they felt a chill run down their spines.
Master Wei had already guessed what was going on, so he waved his hand to dismiss the servants before asking, "Master, is it... my youngest son?"
Jingwu nodded slightly: "Yes."
Hearing this, Xia Tang immediately rushed to the cradle, crying and questioning, "Husband, I know you died unwillingly. But Chu'er is your own flesh and blood! How could you do this to her? If you want someone to go to the underworld with you, then take me with you! Chu'er is only two months old!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the temperature in the room dropped by three or four degrees.
Jingwu clicked his tongue and couldn't help but mutter to himself, "Why is this woman provoking the ghost?"
Master Wei's face was also filled with anger as he looked at that corner: "Anhan, while you were alive, we never mistreated you. Even when you were in prison, I had your eldest brother pull strings to get you out of a death sentence. But you died of a heart attack; this is retribution, and you can't blame anyone else. Your mother was so good to you; since you left, she's been crying every day. How could you harm her? Chu'er was your own flesh and blood; don't you care about family at all?"
As soon as he said that, the temperature inside the room dropped a few degrees, and then a cold wind began to blow.
Jingwu couldn't help but rub his temples. Seeing a man quickly walk in from outside, he formed a hand seal and cast a golden light into the corner, revealing the male ghost Wei Anhan, filled with resentment and unwillingness, to everyone.
"Everyone's here, let's begin."
