Chapter 140: The White-Bearded Old Taoist
Jingwu looked at the soul-locking array on the locust tree, searched around, and found eight soul-locking nails in eight different locations on the ground, along with Yue Huai.
She immediately reached out, quickly formed hand seals, and pulled out the Soul-Locking Nail she had found.
When she pulled out the four Soul-Locking Nails, she turned to look at the boy, holding four Soul-Locking Nails in her hand as well.
The two exchanged a smile, then looked at the locust tree.
The formation has been broken, and countless souls are rushing out, searching for their physical bodies.
At this moment, the bodies that were solemnly offering incense all fainted and collapsed to the ground, lying in a row with a clatter.
He only slowly awoke after his soul entered his body.
The young woman was the first to wake up. She propped herself up on her arms and sat up, her eyes filled with confusion.
I came to this temple to pray for children, so why am I lying on the ground?
She rubbed her inexplicably sore arm and tried hard to recall what had happened after she entered the temple, but she couldn't remember anything at all.
I only vaguely remember that after I got off the carriage and walked into this temple, I felt dizzy and then I couldn't remember anything else.
The woman propped herself up on her hands and looked around. She spotted the neighbor lady who had told her that the temple was very effective for getting children not far away, and she couldn't help but feel strange.
Didn't she already have a son? Why is she back again?
The woman went up to her and asked, "Auntie, what have you come here for?"
The aunt next door blinked her bewildered eyes, then stared blankly at her, revealing a silly smile.
The woman was startled and quickly asked, "Auntie, what's wrong? Don't scare me!"
Hearing the commotion, Jingwu quickly walked over. Looking down, he could see that the woman's soul was incomplete; she had lost one of her three souls and three of her seven spirits, and would probably be mentally impaired for the rest of her life.
She turned to look at the woman in front of her, and seeing that her soul was intact, she asked, "When did you come to this temple?"
"Oh? You came on the fifteenth?" The woman answered subconsciously. "I thought there would be more people on the fifteenth, and it would be more lively, but I didn't expect that when I came, there was no one at all, just me."
"And what about her? Do you know when she arrived?"
The woman shook her head: "I remember that my aunt came here to burn incense a year ago, and then she went home and found out she was pregnant two months later. She gave birth to a son. I don't know when she came back. I only remember that half a month ago, she told me that this temple was very effective."
Upon hearing this, Jingwu immediately understood. She was only eighteen today, and had only been in this temple for three days. Her soul had not yet been completely devoured.
This old woman must have been inside for a long time, which is why her soul is incomplete and she looks dazed.
Jingwu looked to the other side and saw that the people standing in the front row offering incense all looked foolish, while the people in the back rows had more complete souls.
The people in the front row did not wake up, presumably because their souls had been completely devoured.
Jingwu was about to walk to the other side when he heard the person in front of him ask a question.
"You're so young, what are you praying for at this temple? Are you also praying for a child?"
Jingwu's eyes fell on her face, and after carefully examining her features, he said, "Judging from your appearance, you will have your first child after you turn thirty. You are only twenty-eight now, so don't worry, you will be pregnant next year."
After saying that, she didn't intend to say anything more to her and turned back to the boy's side.
“I didn’t see Lord Lu’s spirit. There must be other places here. Let’s split up and take a look.”
Yue Huai nodded in agreement, then glanced at the woman standing behind him and said, "Then let's split up and search. Miss Lu can go with you."
"Okay." Jingwu agreed immediately without much thought.
After all, leaving Lu Yanning here alone might put her in danger.
Then, she led the people behind her toward the back of the temple.
She had just discovered that there was a bamboo grove over there, and perhaps Lord Lu's spirit was in there.
Jingwu walked quickly and soon arrived at the edge of the bamboo forest.
She looked out of the bamboo forest, but there was no maze, unlike what she had seen when she explored. Just as she was wondering if she had come to the wrong place, the person behind her suddenly felt a pang of heartache and fell to the ground.
"What's wrong?"
Lu Yanning clutched her chest, feeling the tearing pain. Fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead, and veins bulged on her neck.
My heart... hurts so much!
She spoke tremulously, her fingers involuntarily gripping the fabric of her clothes tightly at her chest; the pain felt as if someone were stabbing her heart out with a knife.
Upon hearing this, Jingwu quickly took her hand and took her pulse.
The pulse is normal, there's nothing wrong, and there's no external injury, so why would I suddenly feel heart pain?
In that instant, something suddenly occurred to her. Could it be that father and daughter are of one heart?
But, even when a person is dead, will it still be like this?
Jingwu immediately took out a pill and fed it to her to relieve her pain.
Then, he helped her into the bamboo forest.
Lu Yanning's reaction was so strong, perhaps Lord Lu is hiding in this bamboo forest.
With that thought in mind, Jingwu walked inside.
She looked around, but found no signs of life in the bamboo forest, which immediately struck her as odd.
After walking for a while, the two stopped beside an ancient well.
This time, Jingwu saw through layers of mist.
This is the maze she encountered while exploring.
She set the woman she was supporting aside and said softly, "Stay here for a while."
Then, Jingwu walked to the formation, calmed his mind, chanted the illusion-breaking incantation, and quickly formed hand seals.
As she stepped onto the core of the formation, the thick fog outside the bamboo forest surged rapidly.
Jing Wu's expression hardened, and he shouted firmly, "Break!"
As soon as the words were spoken, the mist gradually dissipated, revealing a huge black palace.
Outside the palace, thick black mist swirled, revealing only a sinister gate. Two spirits floated at the gate, one on the left and one on the right, as if guarding the palace.
Jingwu narrowed his eyes and immediately saw one of the guards' souls, which was none other than Lord Lu.
Just as she was about to step forward, she saw an old Taoist priest with a white beard walk out, his face showing hostility.
"I really underestimated you; you actually managed to break through my illusion!"
Jingwu looked at the figure and felt a strange sense of familiarity, immediately thinking of Jiang Chu.
Although these two people look completely different, they have a very similar temperament.
"Little girl, you killed my disciple, and I haven't even settled the score with you yet, but you've delivered yourself right to my doorstep, saving me the trouble of making another trip!"
The old Taoist priest curled his lips into a sneer, his eyes seemingly poisoned as he glared fiercely at the person in front of him.
This immature girl killed his most beloved disciple, Jiang Chu!
