Chapter 58: Afraid of scaring you
Jingwu looked at him with a displeased expression: "Whether I'm talking nonsense or not, you know in your heart. Have you been experiencing shoulder pain lately, or often feeling someone behind you?"
Upon hearing this, Tang Ting's heart skipped a beat. Indeed, as she said, her shoulder had been very uncomfortable these past few days, as if someone was leaning on it.
He turned his head slightly, looked at his shoulder and saw that there was nothing on it, and felt a little relieved.
"I think you're just a charlatan. You can't even calculate an auspicious day, so you're slandering me. I'm going to report you to the authorities! I'll have you arrested."
Jingwu sneered, "Fine, then let's report this to the authorities. Let's see if the government will bring you, this unfilial and heartless wretch, to justice first, or arrest me first."
Tang Ting's eyes darted around, unsure of what to do. But as more and more people gathered around, the whispers filled him with fear.
So he slammed his hand on the table and jumped up, shouting, "You just wait, I'm going to report this to the authorities right now!"
Immediately, he stood up and walked quickly towards home.
Jingwu watched his figure disappear quickly, then looked at the wisp of soul clinging to his back and twitched the corner of her mouth.
He lost his father at a young age, and his mother raised him with great difficulty, supporting his marriage and the birth of his children. Now, with great difficulty, they have started a small business, and the family is no longer worried about food and clothing.
The old lady thought her days of enjoying happiness had finally arrived, but fate played a cruel trick on her. She fell seriously ill and became paralyzed in bed, only to be starved to death by her own son.
Of course, she was unwilling to accept this, so after her death she kept haunting her son, demanding an explanation.
The living and the dead are separated. If a ghost follows a person, it will affect their fortune. Over time, the person will attract many misfortunes.
However, Jingwu did not intend to interfere. This was something Tang Ting and his wife had done, and they should naturally bear the consequences.
She looked away and stopped worrying about it.
It was getting late, and the aroma of food wafted from the streets.
Upon smelling the aroma, Jingwu's stomach growled in perfect sync.
Seeing that it was getting late, she immediately prepared to pack up her stall and go home.
"Little Awu, you're going home already? What are we going to do?" Aunt Chen immediately became anxious: "When are you coming to my house?"
Jingwu turned to look at her, smiling broadly, and said, "I'll come after dinner. You guys go back and wait for me."
Since the sun hadn't set yet, they would naturally have to wait until after dark to send the boy to the underworld.
Although Aunt Chen was thinking about resolving her own issue as soon as possible, she didn't say much after hearing what she said and helped her pack up the stall.
After placing the tables and chairs at the steamed bun shop, Jingwu turned around and went home.
When it was time for dinner, the aroma of food filled the air, making her very hungry.
Jingwu had just reached his doorstep when he saw Xue Wenhui holding an umbrella and about to go out, and he paused in his tracks.
Where are we going?
"Miss." Xue Wenhui stopped when she saw her and said with a smile, "Dinner is ready. I was planning to go to South Street to find you so we could go home for dinner."
Jingwu was the first to enter the house, and as soon as he entered, he smelled an enticing aroma.
I walked quickly toward the dining room and saw three dishes and a soup on the table.
Seeing that Shao Che and Ruan Chongyue were already waiting for her to start the meal, she plopped down on the floor.
"There aren't many ingredients left in the kitchen, so today I only made sweet and sour pork, stir-fried cabbage with vinegar, Dongpo tofu, and a radish soup," Xue Wenhui said as she set out the bowls and chopsticks. "Miss, do you think this suits your taste?"
Jingwu nodded, thought for a moment, and said to the person beside him, "Come to my place after dinner."
"Okay." Xue Wenhui was taken aback at first, but then agreed.
Ruan Chongyue first served Jingwu a bowl of soup and placed it in front of her, saying softly, "Have a bowl of soup to warm your stomach first. Wen Hui's cooking is excellent; just the smell makes your mouth water."
Jingwu brought it over, took a sip first, and asked, "Isn't Chengyang Chengmin coming back today?"
“Yes, it’s not time for them to rest yet, so they won’t be coming back.” Ruan Chongyue said, putting some food on her plate.
Upon hearing this, Jingwu didn't ask any more questions and began to eat his rice.
After finishing their meal, Ruan Chongyue brought out a plate of jujube blossom pastries from the kitchen, placed it on the table, and looked at them expectantly.
"I learned this recipe from Wen Hui this afternoon. What do you think of the taste?"
Jingwu looked at the jujube blossom pastries, which looked and smelled delicious, with some surprise. Had his aunt learned them so quickly in just one afternoon?
She picked up a piece, took a bite, and her eyes lit up instantly.
“This tastes exactly like the jujube blossom pastry that A-Wu brought back from the capital! A-Yue, your skills are really good!” Shao Che said first.
A blush rose on Ruan Chongyue's cheeks, and then she looked at the girl.
Jingwu nodded repeatedly, praising, "The taste is exactly the same, even better. Aunt, you can set up a stall now."
Ruan Chongyue blushed upon hearing the praise, but felt secretly delighted.
Watching the two of them enjoying their meal, she felt a surge of satisfaction and thought that she would learn to cook and make pastries from Wen Hui when she had time in the future.
Jingwu ate three or four pieces of pastry and was so full she could hardly contain herself. After exchanging a few words with her uncle and aunt, she returned to her room.
A short while later, Xue Wenhui finished tidying up the kitchen and went to her room, knocking on the door.
"Come in." Jingwu held up his teacup and took a small sip.
He called her in, took out the purse she had prepared in advance, and handed it to her.
"Miss, what's this?" Xue Wenhui opened her purse and looked at the ten taels of silver inside, somewhat puzzled.
"As for this month's food expenses, you can go buy any ingredients the kitchen runs out of in the future." Jingwu said with a smile, seeing that she was gradually becoming familiar with this body. "Now that you're not afraid of the sun anymore, it will be much more convenient for you to go out in the future."
"Thank you for trusting me, young lady." Upon hearing this, Xue Wenhui accepted the purse and then smiled, "I must thank you for giving me this body."
Jingwu nodded at the person in front of him: "Get some rest."
Upon hearing this, Xue Wenhui immediately withdrew.
Seeing that it was completely dark, Jingwu cast a teleportation spell and headed to Aunt Chen's house.
Jingwu landed in Aunt Chen's courtyard, next to the well.
Just as she was about to look down, she saw the door open and Aunt Chen come out.
"Little Awu, you've come! I heard a sound in the yard and thought it was you. When I opened the door, it was indeed you."
Jingwu smiled when he saw that she was still holding a rice bowl. "You should go back and have dinner first. I'll stay here and look around."
Of course, Aunt Chen refused to go back and insisted on staying by her side.
Jingwu twitched the corner of his mouth, looking at her as if he wanted to say something but hesitated: "I'll let that boy out later, I'm afraid you'll be scared."
Upon hearing this, Aunt Chen immediately turned around and went back to her own home. But she was still very curious and leaned against the window, looking outside.
