Chapter 211:
Yue Huai hesitated for a moment before speaking, "I did a divination for her, and it says that her life will end in ten days."
Jingwu watched him open his mouth, and a feeling he couldn't quite describe welled up inside him.
She was silent for a moment, then nodded: "Cause and effect, it's only natural."
Yue Huai looked at the person beside him and gently patted her shoulder: "Actually, this is her fate, and so it is yours..."
"By the way, now that you've become the King of the Underworld, do you also have a way to help your father and mother restore their powers?"
Jingwu suddenly turned his head and stared straight at him.
Yue Huai paused, his hand patting her shoulder, seemingly taken aback, before speaking.
"Yes, I have retrieved all the cultivation techniques that Liu Lishan and Su Hexie absorbed, and returned them all to my father and mother. After a few more days of rest, they will be able to recover to their former state."
Jingwu looked at him with bright eyes: "Then can you teach me?"
Yue Huai coughed lightly, thinking to himself that if you regained your memories, you could do the same, but in the end, he couldn't bring himself to say it.
He looked away, somewhat awkwardly, and said, "I'll teach you when I have the chance."
Jingwu nodded, then suddenly remembered something and looked at him, asking, "Since you are now the King of the Underworld, what about the matter of the evil god..."
"It's not time yet. The underworld is in turmoil right now. I need to go back to the underworld first and deal with this matter. After I'm done, I'll go and slay the evil god."
Jingwu found his answer reasonable and nodded. Then he asked, "There's one more thing. Back then, even when you and Awu joined forces, you couldn't kill the evil god and could only perish together with him. This time, without Awu by your side, will you be able to kill the evil god?"
Hearing this, Yue Huai looked intently at the person in front of him, hesitant to speak.
He opened his mouth, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "No, the evil god has not been fully resurrected yet. He is just a phantom, and his skills are far inferior to before. Even I alone can kill him."
Upon hearing this, Jingwu nodded, took his hand, and said softly, "I'll go with you."
Yue Huai felt the warmth of her palm, his eyes lit up, and he immediately nodded heavily, afraid that she would change her mind, and said decisively, "Okay."
Jingwu smiled as she looked at him, her eyes crinkling. She leaned against him and gazed at the stars outside.
Yue Huai sensed her movement, looked down at her, hesitated for a moment, then reached out and put his hand on her shoulder, pulling her into his arms.
His eyes were fixed on her face, as if he would immediately withdraw his hand if she showed even the slightest displeasure.
Fortunately, Jingwu was not displeased; in fact, his eyes curved slightly when he noticed Jingwu's hand on his shoulder.
Seeing her like this, Yue Huai was completely relieved and moved a little closer to her.
The two leaned against each other and gazed at the stars for most of the night.
It wasn't until dawn that Yue Huai reluctantly returned to the underworld.
After watching him leave, Jingwu went to the dining hall for breakfast.
As soon as she entered the door, she saw her older cousin already eating breakfast. She greeted him and sat down.
"Awu, why are you up so early today?" Shao Chengrui placed the pastries in front of him toward her, looking at her in surprise: "Didn't you used to sleep until noon?"
Jingwu coughed lightly, touched his nose, and said somewhat embarrassedly, "I just happened to get up a little early today. Big cousin, why are you up so early too?"
"I have to go to court, so I get up this early every day," Shao Chengrui said with a smile.
Jingwu chuckled awkwardly twice, then immediately lowered his head to eat his breakfast.
After Shao Chengrui finally finished eating and went to court, she was about to go back to her room for a nap when she heard hurried footsteps in the distance.
The steward rushed in, panting, and said, "Miss, the concubine of the Prince of Huai has arrived. She's stopping the eldest young master from going to court, saying she wants an explanation."
"The Prince of Huai's concubine? Jing Shu?" Jing Wu asked, frowning. Seeing the steward nod, he frowned slightly and looked at him in surprise: "Explanation? What explanation?"
"This is about your mother."
Upon hearing this, Jingwu's face immediately turned cold, and he strode towards the outer courtyard.
She heard the sounds of arguing and crying from a distance, and her brow twitched. She quickly walked over.
Then Jing Shu, dressed in fine silks and satins, stood in front of Shao Chengrui, pointing her finger at him and cursing.
"She's still your aunt, no matter how wrong she is, you can't send her to the authorities! Where's your uncle? Let him come out and talk to me! You've only been an official for a few days, and you don't even recognize your own relatives?!"
Shao Chengrui's face turned red from her scolding. He was furious. Thinking about what the mother and daughter had done, he realized that every single one of their actions was worthy of being reported to the authorities.
He opened his mouth, about to retort, when he heard a familiar voice coming from the doorway.
“I was the one who took her to see the officials. If you need anything, just come to me.” Jingwu walked up to the two of them and said to his cousin, “Cousin, you should go to court now, don’t neglect your duties.”
Shao Chengrui hesitated for a moment, worried that Awu would suffer a loss, but after glancing at the sky, he realized he would indeed be late. So he turned to instruct the steward a few words, immediately got into the carriage, and hurriedly headed towards the palace.
Looking at her older sister, Jing Shu became even more arrogant, pointing her finger at her nose and roaring, "Jing Wu! Your mother gave birth to you and raised you, how could you send her to the authorities? How dare you? This is unfilial, this is extremely unfilial!"
She absolutely loathed the older woman in front of her. Having grown up in a Taoist temple since childhood, she was rude and lacked any of the refinement expected of a wealthy young lady.
She has money but doesn't think about helping her own family; instead, she helps the Shao family. When I and my mother came to her for help, instead of helping me find a good marriage and giving my mother a better life, she actually wanted to drive us away!
What an ingrate!
Jingwu was so angry at her words that he almost laughed. He looked into her eyes and said, word by word.
"Your mother attempted to murder the Shao family and nearly killed your aunt and her unborn child. If I don't send her to the authorities, do you expect me to treat her like an ancestor?"
Jing Shu was speechless for a moment, then immediately said, "Even so, you should still fulfill your filial duty and beg your uncle and aunt for forgiveness and to let your mother go. How could you personally send her to prison? Your mother has been very weak ever since she gave birth to your younger brother. What if she dies in prison?"
As she spoke, her eyes suddenly reddened. She wiped her eyes with a handkerchief and then said, "Even if you hate your mother for sending you to the Taoist temple, you shouldn't have done this!"
Jingwu stared straight into her eyes, then suddenly smiled: "If your own mother saw you like this, she would be pacing around in circles in the underworld, wishing she could rush up and slap you twice across the face."
