Chapter 175: The Bell

Chapter 175: The Bell

A moment later, turning his head, he saw that Yue Huai had already set up the bedding on the floor.

Jingwu was stunned for a moment, then blinked and looked at him: "What is this...?"

"Even though I'm not sleeping, lying down is still a bit more comfortable." Yue Huai said awkwardly as he made up the bed, "It's not really appropriate for the two of us to share a bed."

Jingwu thought about it and felt that what he said made sense, so he nodded in agreement.

She got up, walked to the window, pushed it open, and looked out, taking in half the city.

Jingwu's eyes swept around, and then he murmured, "This town is so deserted, it's so strange."

Yue Huai walked to her side, glanced outside, and nodded in agreement.

The next second, his gaze fell on a book placed by the bed. He looked at the strange words on it with some confusion, so he went over, picked it up, and took a closer look.

"Awu, come quickly, this is a map of the previous dynasty!"

As soon as Yue Huai turned the page, a piece of cloth fell down. Upon closer inspection, he saw that it contained a map.

The map was exactly the same as the map of the previous dynasty that he had seen in the palace before, so he subconsciously shouted it out.

Jingwu walked over quickly and came close to him, looking at the map in his hand.

Her eyes lit up as she pointed to a small corner on the map, where the words "Xiangyun Town" were written.

"Xiangyun Town?"

Yue Huai muttered softly, then seemed to remember something and said...

“I remember now. When I went to the Imperial Study with the Crown Prince, the Grand Tutor told me about the previous dynasty. There was a general in the previous dynasty who resigned and returned to his hometown. On the way, he met a woman from the Miao Kingdom and was deeply attracted to her. The general wanted to take her as his own, but the Miao woman was already in love with someone else and refused no matter what.”

"The general then approached her beloved, using both threats and inducements to make him leave. He accepted a hundred taels of gold and promptly fled. The Miao woman, heartbroken, and further swayed by the general's relentless pursuit, entered his household. One day, she discovered that her beloved hadn't fled, but had been murdered by the general, his body buried in a mass grave on the outskirts of town. Overwhelmed with rage, she used witchcraft to slaughter the entire general's mansion. The people considered her a sorceress and tried to burn her alive; to protect herself, she killed everyone in the town."

Upon hearing this, Jingwu's eyes widened suddenly.

"Killed the entire town?"

Yue Huai nodded, folded the map, and said, "That town was called Xiangyun Town. Since then, the town has been considered unlucky, and no one has entered it since. There has been no news of it since."

Jingwu rested his chin on his hand, and suddenly the image of the female shopkeeper from earlier came to mind.

"To slaughter the entire city's inhabitants is surely unforgivable by Heaven. Do you think she's currently being tortured in the eighteenth level of hell, or has she already vanished into nothingness?"

"I don't know." Yue Huai shook his head, walked to the window and closed it. "Anyway, there's definitely something strange about this place."

Jingwu nodded in agreement. She looked thoughtfully at the neatly folded map, and a sudden idea flashed through her mind. In an instant, a noise came from outside the door.

She immediately turned her head and exchanged a glance with the boy. The two of them held their breath in tacit agreement, not making a sound.

Outside the door, many stiff figures walked by, one after another, accompanied by the sound of jumping.

They stopped outside each house, sniffed around to make sure no one was there, and then hopped away.

Looking at the shadow outside with its hands raised, the word "zombie" suddenly flashed through Jingwu's mind.

Her eyes flickered, and she turned to look at the person beside her.

In that instant, the door was smashed open from the outside by a wooden chair that appeared out of nowhere, and the loud noise attracted the attention of countless zombies outside.

A melodious flute tune drifted from somewhere, and the zombies all turned in one direction before hopping and skipping over.

Jingwu frowned as he listened to the melodious flute music. Then, he stopped holding his breath and immediately took out Xiaoqing, ready to fight.

The people beside them were unusually in sync, simultaneously taking out purple fans and searching their minds for spells.

Just then, the four bells on the table suddenly flew up and spun in mid-air.

Then, as if it had eyes, it started shooting at the zombies in the front row.

The bell seemed to be enchanted, emitting bursts of golden light. As soon as it touched the zombie, the ground immediately turned into water.

In an instant, the inn was filled with the screams of zombies.

Jingwu stared at the bell in mid-air, momentarily stunned.

This bell actually has this effect!

Immediately, they raised their fans, chanted incantations, and went forward together to fight the zombies.

Xiaoqing, after figuring out the situation in her confusion, became excited and started fighting on her own, without needing her master's control.

With a spin, the fan unleashed tremendous power, knocking down all the zombies in the surrounding area.

"Oh wow~"

Xiaoqing watched the zombie fall to the ground and even added her own voiceover.

On the contrary, Xiao Zi was more conservative; he did exactly what Yue Huai did.

Jingwu looked at the zombies scattered all over the ground, then glanced at Xiaoqing, who was having a great time fighting them, and twitched the corner of his mouth.

But he didn't stop her. He sat on a chair to the side, watching her attacks, trying to find clues.

When Xiaoqing finished fighting, she looked up and met her master's probing eyes, and immediately knew something was wrong.

The next second, she flew onto the table on her own and fell down with a thud, without making a sound.

When Xiao Zi saw this, she flew over and fell down with a thud, leaving the two fans lying side by side.

Jingwu glanced at the zombies scattered on the ground, then at the two fans on the table, a smirk playing on his lips, and looked up at the person in front of him.

Just as I was about to say something, I saw the four bells fly back from outside and return to the tray, and then there was no more movement.

Jingwu's gaze was instantly drawn to the bell. She stepped forward, held the bell, and looked at it from left to right. No matter how she looked at it, it was just an ordinary bell.

That's really strange.

If it weren't for the zombies scattered all over the ground, she would have doubted whether what she had just witnessed was a hallucination.

Jingwu took the bell in his hand and looked at it carefully to see what kind of magical artifact it was.

Yue Huai also wanted to go over and take a look, but when he looked up, he bumped into the female shopkeeper outside the door.

The female shopkeeper was still dressed in red, her eyes crinkling as she looked at the two people in front of her.

"You two have been frightened. I'll waive your room fee for tonight."

Upon hearing this voice, Jingwu abruptly raised his head, staring intently at the person in front of him.

This person possesses such powerful magical artifacts, and there are four of them at that; he is definitely not an ordinary person.

The female shopkeeper noticed her probing but didn't mind. She simply smiled and reached out to summon the four bells.

The bell shrank instantly and lay in her palm.
