The pitiful howls echoed over the dark river. After they died, those things turned into puddles of black mud, emitting a strong, fishy stench.
The smell was so intoxicating that Mingzhuo was the first to be assaulted by the stench.
She quickly held her breath, turned her head and buried her head in Gu Xu's chest, taking two deep breaths of his fragrance, which finally stopped the churning in her stomach.
Gu Xu remained stiff as she was held, and after a moment she asked softly, "Are you feeling better?"
Mingzhuo took a couple more breaths. Ah Xu was such a clean person. Who wasn't covered in sweat in the middle of summer?
Only he didn't smell bad; in fact, he smelled quite nice, though it was very faint and barely noticeable. I wonder if Ah Xu was wearing perfume.
Mingzhuo wanted to ask him what perfume he was wearing, but it seemed inappropriate for the occasion, so she turned to look at the black mud instead.
She could sense the intense negative emotions emanating from the black mud, which was the manifestation of resentment. If left unattended, it would eventually transform into a monster like the one just now.
If it were anyone else here, they would probably have been affected and become emotionally unstable, turning to the dark side and falling into depravity.
Fortunately, Ah-Xu is immune to all evil and remains unaffected.
Resentment is something that cannot be dealt with by a peach wood sword or a heavenly thunder talisman, but Mingzhuo has a feeling that she has a way to eliminate resentment.
Before she could figure out what was going on, her fingers touched the black mud, and something strange happened.
The resentment within the black mud was continuously absorbed by Mingzhuo until all the resentment was absorbed. The black mud then seemed to fade, turning back into normal soil, and the stench disappeared as well.
Mingzhao: "..."
Oh no! She absorbed all that awful stuff! Is she going to rot from the stench now?
Gu Xu looked at her worriedly: "Are you alright?"
He always felt that the black mud was too eerie, and even he couldn't help but feel a bit disgusted by it.
"I'm fine." Ming Zhuo quickly took a few steps away to avoid offending Gu Xu with his stench.
She had previously discovered that the cave walls were particularly low at a certain point in the underground river, almost touching the water's surface.
There's a whirlpool there, and those monsters keep emerging from it.
Now, the vortex is getting bigger and bigger; something terrible is about to emerge.
The last one to appear was much larger than the other water monsters, and its outstretched claws were like steel knives, tearing a piece of rock off the cave wall with a single grab.
A pair of scarlet eyes appeared, and Mingzhuo was caught off guard as they made eye contact.
Those eyes exuded an evil, cold, and oppressive aura, as terrifying as the deepest nightmare in the middle of the night.
Mingzhuo felt a buzzing in her head, as if something was trying to burrow into her brain and invade her mind.
Her eyes instantly lost their light, staring blankly and coldly at the human-faced water monster.
"Whoosh!" Gu Xu sensed something was wrong and threw the bronze mirror at the monster, trying to interrupt its control.
Those cold, sinister eyes suddenly turned towards Gu Xu.
Gu Xu also felt a terrifying force striking his brain. His whole body stiffened, and he almost lost control of his limbs.
He gritted his teeth, forcefully pushing that power out of his mind inch by inch. After regaining control of his hands, he pulled out a knife and slashed his palms.
Fresh blood gushed out suddenly, dripping and dripping, filling the room with a pleasant fragrance.
The smell was like a gentle summer breeze, or the green grass covering a hillside.
The approaching, dark shadowy figure was so frightened that it took a step back, but it refused to leave and lingered a few meters away.
Gu Xu waved his hand, and with a burst of power from who knows where, the bronze mirror flew back into his hand.
The blood from his palm meandered across the bronze mirror, causing the mirror to suddenly emit a burst of light.
Gu Xu had a gut feeling that the bronze mirror could absorb his blood. If he drained his blood, he could turn the bronze mirror into a terrifying weapon.
Just as he was about to slash his other palm, Mingzhuo suddenly moved.
A gust of wind, seemingly from nowhere, swept through her hair. Something was clearly wrong with her; her pupils remained lifeless, yet they carried a hint of indifference and aloofness.
She gently raised her hand, pointed at the monster, and uttered a strange syllable.
Then the monster suddenly spat out a mouthful of black blood.
The moment the black blood hit the ground, it seemed to be scalded, hissing and emitting a puff of blue smoke, as if it had faded, degenerating from black to gray.
There was no resentment or yin energy inside; it was like a stagnant pool of mud on a riverbank.
The things in the vortex seemed to have seen something terrifying and frantically fled into it.
However, it was too late. Mingzhuo made another finger-pointing motion, and the monster's steel-like claws on its fingers broke off at the root.
The monster howled in pain and frantically tried to shrink back into the vortex, finally managing to retreat.
The vortex disappeared.
In the darkness, only Gu Xu watched the scene before him in shock.
No, he wasn't the only one stunned; a whole bunch of dark, ghostly figures were also taken aback.
Seeing Mingzhuo move slightly, the ghostly images seemed to receive some kind of signal, and retreated like a tide.
Their original plan was to let the two people be consumed by resentment.
Even if someone can deal with the monsters formed from resentment, the resentment of the monsters will not dissipate after they die. As long as the mortal body touches them, it will be devoured by the negative emotions such as resentment, hatred, and unwillingness hidden inside, and become a new host for the resentment.
When their eyes met Mingzhuo's, a terrible thought immediately came to them.
