True appearance

True appearance

The voice was intermittent, and Jiufang Mingyuan didn't hear the content clearly. The dampness could be felt through his clothes, and he was a little surprised. He paused, then closed his arms and hugged the person tighter.

Back in the bedroom, Jiufang Mingyuan gently put Yiwu on the bed and let her sleep comfortably.

During the retreat, the souls could not sense each other, and he still didn't know what was going on. Seeing Yiwu frowning, he couldn't help but reach out to help her straighten her brows.

After watching for half a minute, when the person fell asleep, Jiufang Mingyuan stood up, pulled the bed curtain to block out the light, and turned to read the ancient books on the couch.

It is not easy to get back the Yin-Yang Universe Pearl. We need to make other plans as soon as possible. We can't end up with our soul dissipating.

No one disturbed them, and there was a rare quiet and peace between the two of them, and time passed quietly.

While sleeping, Yiwu had a nightmare. She dreamed that not long after she came out of the abyss, she passed by a place filled with miasma, was defeated by monsters, and was besieged by blood eagles, which pecked at her flesh and blood.

The forest was dark and gloomy, the densely packed towering trees completely blocking out the sunlight, leaving it completely dark. Her eyelids were pecked by a bloody eagle, and blood flowed, blurring her vision.

Without the ability to see, her hearing and senses of touch became extraordinarily sharp. The eagle's screams, the flapping of its wings, the relentless pecking of its beak at every part of her body—there was nowhere to hide, no escape possible—wrecked Yiwu's spirit.

She raised her hands to resist, but the blood eagle ripped away the flesh from her arms, piece by piece, revealing the bones. She sobbed softly in pain. She accidentally stepped on a protruding tree root and fell to the ground in a mess, her dress torn by the branches.

At that moment, she thought she was dead, dead in a place where no one knew, dead under the ruthless claws of the blood eagle.

Fortunately, there is always a way out. She found a rusty axe on the ground, followed the sound and located the target, risking her life to chop off the heads of those blood eagles, and thus she survived.

Afterwards, an old woman who went up the mountain to collect herbs rescued her from the edge of the woods and took her home to recuperate.

The dream changes, and the surroundings become a little warmer.

The old woman's family was not very wealthy, but she had no children or grandchildren. She picked up a little girl and treated her like her own daughter, giving her all the delicious food and managing to raise Yi Wu to her full potential.

However, when they asked Yiwu what her name was, where she lived, and where her parents were, Yiwu just shook her head, as if she remembered nothing.

The old woman's surname was Yi. Seeing that she was very beautiful, she gave her a new name, Yiwu.

Yiwu slowly woke up from her dream, opened her eyes, and found herself lying on the bed. She looked carefully and was surprised.

She propped herself up and sat up, her head still dizzy. She woke up, reached out to lift the bed curtain and looked outside.

Jiufang Mingyuan's bedroom remained unchanged as usual. Through the folding screen, one could vaguely make out a figure wearing a golden mask lying on a couch by the window.

Yi Wu was startled and began to think about whether she had done anything inappropriate yesterday, but she couldn't recall anything. Angrily pinching her temples, she got out of bed and tiptoed out.

When passing by Jiufang Mingyuan, Yiwu stopped and turned to look at him.

The couch was not spacious enough. Jiufang Mingyuan rested his hands behind his head, his long legs stretched out over the armrests, his chest rising and falling slightly, as if he was soundly asleep.

Suddenly, Yi Wu remembered what he had said before.

"Do you know why you failed?"

"You failed because you weren't ruthless enough as an undercover agent, and you failed because of your ridiculous kindness. You clearly had a chance to succeed, but if you had been even a little more ruthless, you wouldn't be standing here now."

Yes, if Yiwu was a little more ruthless, she wouldn’t be so passive.

Her face darkened, she turned her wrist to summon a dagger, suddenly stepped forward, and stabbed the dagger fiercely into Jiufang Mingyuan's heart.

Yi Wu used 80% of her strength in this strike, but just as the tip of the blade was about to pierce Jiufang Mingyuan's outer shirt, it abruptly stopped. An invisible and powerful force blocked her from moving forward.

Looking up, I saw Jiufang Mingyuan lazily opening his eyes. His pupils were as dark as ink, as if they wanted to suck people in.

Jiufang Mingyuan glanced at the sharp weapon pressed against his chest and snorted, "What? After not seeing you for a few days, our agreement is no longer valid?"

"If I hadn't rescued you, you'd be thrown into some corner right now. Are you repaying kindness with hatred?"

Yi Wu calmly retracted the dagger, not feeling guilty at all. "Jun Lin captured my father and threatened me with his life and my mother's soul, asking me to come back and assassinate you. What should I do?"

She hadn't expected to kill Jiufang Mingyuan so easily, nor did she intend to. Compared to the despicable Jun Lin, Jiufang Mingyuan was much more pleasing to the eye.

Jiufang Mingyuan turned over and sat up, finally understanding why she was drunk yesterday and why she felt wronged. It was also the first time he saw her cry.

But then again, Yiwu wasn't one to be manipulated. He raised his chin and said, "Tell me, what do you want?"

Yi Wu felt thirsty. She turned, picked up the teapot, and poured herself a cup of tea. After three cups of cold tea, she put the cup down with a thud and said resolutely, "Either you go with me to the Underworld and help me rescue my father and reclaim my mother's spirit. Or, you die by my hand so I can return home and report. Choose one."

Jiufang Mingyuan looked at her for a long moment, then chuckled to himself, "Is there anyone who would beg you like that?"

"So whichever one you choose, or you'd better die in my hands, it's faster." Before Yi Wu finished speaking, she threw away the dagger and turned it into a long sword, attacking Jiufang Mingyuan directly.

Jiufang Mingyuan rolled over to avoid the attack, drew out his sword, and accurately blocked the next blow.

Considering his injuries, Yi Wu didn't use her full strength, mostly testing each move. After all, if Jiufang Mingyuan hadn't recovered yet, she couldn't force him to help.

The two men fought back and forth, and the collision of swords made a crisp sound, attracting the attention of others.

"Bang, bang, bang..."

"Young Master, are you in the bedroom?"

"Young Master?"

Ziying and Qingpu heard the noise and immediately came to knock on the door, worried that an assassin might be trying to kill Jiufang Mingyuan.

Yi Wu was distracted for a moment and accidentally stepped on the hem of Jiufang Mingyuan's clothes. They both lost their balance and fell to the ground.

As she fell, the sword in her hand hit Jiufang Mingyuan's face, splitting the mask in two and sending it falling to the ground.

Yi Wu's spirits lifted, and her body reacted faster than her brain. She immediately put down her sword and grabbed Jiufang Mingyuan's hands, pressing them hard against his sides, waiting for an opportunity to look up at his face.

"You..." She seemed to have been hit hard, speechless for a moment, her eyes staring straight ahead.

Her eyes swept from top to bottom, the eyebrows, the nose, the lips... and the small mole at the end of the eyebrows, every inch of it was extremely familiar to Yiwu.

She couldn't wrap her mind around it, not understanding what was going on. Could it be that, unbeknownst to her, Liu Yu had also infiltrated the demon clan and, unnoticed, replaced Jiufang Mingyuan?

Yiwu unconsciously opened her mouth and muttered to herself, "Liuyu?"

As soon as she asked, Yi Wu came back to her senses. Her eyes regained clarity, and she quickly raised her sword and placed it across Jiufang Mingyuan's neck. She coldly demanded, "Why did you transform into Liu Yu? Do you think it's fun to tease me?"

Although this face is exactly the same as Liu Yu's, a closer look reveals that the two have completely different temperaments.

Liu Yu was a fairy, his brows relaxed and his eyes gentle as jade, making him a sight to behold. In comparison, Jiufang Mingyuan's face was much tougher, and his eyes carried a look of arrogance that looked down upon everything, as well as a nonchalant indifference.

There's no way they could be the same person.

Jiufang Mingyuan's eyes darkened, and the little warmth in them completely disappeared. "What's the point of teasing you? Is it that only he has this face, and I can't have it?"

There are absolutely no two people in the world who are born identical for no reason. Yi Wu speculated, "What's your relationship with him? Twins?"

Twins, puppets, clone technique... Countless guesses flashed through Yiwu's mind, and she was eager to know the answers.

Unexpectedly, Jiufang Mingyuan opened his thin lips and said in a bad tone: "No comment."

Yi Wu's grip tightened, nearly cutting his skin, but she steadied herself in time and took a deep breath.

Jiufang Mingyuan raised his hand, and just by touching the blade, a gash appeared on his fingertip, and blood quickly flowed out. He smiled playfully, and with that bloody fingertip, he lifted Yiwu's chin and asked provocatively, "What? You can't do it? Looking at this face, you can't bear it?"

Yi Wu gritted her teeth, loosened and clenched her fingertips, and repeated this several times. Finally, she pushed herself against the ground and stood up.

Without stopping for a moment, she opened the palace door and left, not daring to look at Jiufang Mingyuan again, as if she was fleeing in panic.

Qingpu and Ziying watched Yiwu pass by with a bad look on her face. They realized later that they seemed to have disturbed their good time and quickly hid back in their room.

Jiufang Mingyuan listened to the footsteps fading away, lying on the ground without moving, with a look of satisfaction at having succeeded in his evil ways, but also a hint of reluctance.

He had been looking forward to Yi Wu seeing his true face, wanting to see her shocked and bewildered expression, wanting her to mistake him for Liu Yu. Unfortunately, she almost immediately recognized that they were not the same person.

Why, what on earth did she like about him? Why was he allowed to do that?

Jiufang Mingyuan stretched out his hand, put his five fingers together, and squeezed the mask that was broken into two pieces into a ball through the air.

Yiwu disappeared that day, and she still hadn't returned on the second and third days.

Jiufang Mingyuan thought that she might never come back.

On the fourth day, Yi Wu suddenly appeared in Jiufang Mingyuan's bedroom and casually threw him a set of immortal battle armor. "Put it on and set off at midnight to rescue people in the Jiming."

Jiufang Mingyuan has put on his mask again. Unlike the previous one, the new mask is completely black, making it look more solemn and murderous.

Seeing Yi Wu coming back, his eyes lit up for a moment, but quickly concealed it, and said with disdain, "Who wants to wear things of the immortal race?"

Yi Wu frowned, "Do you have any good ideas?"

While speaking, she deliberately avoided Jiufang Mingyuan's eyes and didn't look at him, but she could still see from the corner of her eye that his mask had changed color.

Jiufang Mingyuan stood up and just as he took two steps forward, Yiwu took two steps back. He stopped and Yiwu stopped too.

"Avoiding me?" He flashed in front of Yi Wu and grabbed her wrist unexpectedly, leaving her with no way to retreat. "If you don't want to see me, why did you come back?"
