Chapter Sixty-Four: Gorgon: Wait, who's going to make a move!

Gorgons are not considered low-ranking monsters. To put it simply, they are slightly higher than centaurs, higher than harpies, but slightly lower than howling banshees.

Well, to put it bluntly, it's in a state of being "neither here nor there, stuck in the middle."

To be more specific, they are similar to the insectoids... although the reason why the insectoids are so powerful is because of their strong talent for combat and combat skills, which makes them natural-born combatants.

Medusa are essentially a smaller number of insectoid beings that use magic-based attacks.

Therefore, faced with the headless horseman's charge, the Gorgon's lines were almost instantly destroyed... Remarkably, the Gorgons were the only race among the Lizardmen, Centaurs, and Gorgons to fight back in unison.

In other words... the entire clan are traitors.

"Spread out! Form the most dispersed formation possible, minimizing the impact of the petrification ray!"

Ira knew very well how to defeat the Gorgon. As a type of soldier that had appeared on the battlefield, he was naturally very familiar with the Gorgon and knew how to deal with these monsters that posed a great threat to the Empire's weak forces.

"Harpy, abandon your dive and focus all your energy on disrupting and dodging; Insect Hunter! Maintain the offensive dominance! Keep the air superiority!"

However, he now finds commanding much more relaxed and comfortable than when he was in the Empire.

Because the troops are very obedient.

The structure of the Imperial army is very complex. The decisions made by Iraq are announced the night before the war, and on the battlefield, they are handled by the captains of each squad, the legion commanders in charge of each squad, and so on.

Iraq's improvisational tactics, devised on the battlefield, need to be relayed down through layers of communication. In this process, the tactics can easily lose their timeliness and become distorted.

Similar situations can easily occur—

Iraq: "Infantry advance! Mages, coordinate!"

General: "Infantry, advance! Protect the mages!"

Legion Commander: "Soldiers, keep charging! Protect the mages in your ranks! Coordinate your attacks! If the mages get hurt, you'll be in big trouble!"

Captain: "Advance! Don't let the mages get hurt! Mages, coordinate your attacks!" (Accent)

Squad leader: "Oh, we'll advance alone. The mage is the boss (misunderstood) and might get hurt, so he doesn't need to come along."

It will turn out like this.

However, Ira doesn't need to worry about this with the monsters. The monster soldiers will carry out Ira's orders without hesitation, and they will actively cooperate with each other, so there won't be any situations where they cannot carry out Ira's orders well.

The leaders of the various units did not object to Iraq's orders.

And... no one is afraid of dying.

...

When needed, they will willingly become expendable pawns without complaint!

It's a miracle that the Empire could hold out for so long before Ira arrived with such a monstrous army... Although I hate to admit it, those foolish nobles were still somewhat useful in this regard.

"Insect Hunters! You're flying too high! Lower your stance!"

As Ira shouted this, the insect-man hunters with wings like butterflies, dragonflies, and moths, who were firing arrows in the air, suddenly lowered their positions... without even needing to know the reason, they began to act.

This is what an army should look like.

As Ira thought this, she watched as the insect hunter, struck by the petrifying ray, quickly turned into stone and fell to the ground. However, because of the low altitude of the flight, the insect hunter did not suffer any severed arms or legs.

As the little lesser demon huffed and puffed as it rushed forward and carried the clumsy insect hunter back to the front lines, Ira looked at the Gorgons who were still putting up a fierce resistance.

It seems there has been a loss...

The loss of the lesser demons was insignificant, but the Black Knight and the Headless Knight were turned to stone after being struck by the petrifying ray, and then shattered into pieces by the magic that followed.

If someone is perfectly petrified, even severed limbs are acceptable; they can simply recover and find a way to heal. But if they end up as a pile of broken pieces, there's no point in trying to recover.

Although the loss is not large, it is still a loss.

"Hmm..."

Satan Leaf made a conflicted sound.

"You don't...think that no soldiers will die on the battlefield, do you?"

As Ira asked this, he knew very well what Satan was thinking, because he had seen too many similar noble scions and knew what those people were thinking on the battlefield... Of course, this group of nobles was quite likable.

After all, they're still thinking about minimizing the losses of their troops, while what's less appealing is... completely disregarding the losses of their subordinates, happily asking Ira, "Lord Ira, is my merit enough for Her Majesty the Empress to reward me?" and so on.

There were even those who directly flattered Ira, hoping she would speak well of them, and others who hoped to exchange something else for Ira's guidance (to mention her in front of the Queen)... Because this kind of noble is "her," this "something else" is quite terrible.

Although Ira suppressed her urge to hit him, she managed to drive that guy away.

Even if that kind of guy doesn't mind not being able to have children with Ira, even if Ira has to choose someone to love, she would never choose someone who's missing something in their head... She would rather go to Gurera Genesis Parada.

After all, Ira was already used to that guy chattering away and professing his love next to her.

Of course, Satanie was unaware of the divergent thoughts running through Ira's mind. She simply looked at the battlefield with a hint of regret and said, "I just felt that Mr. Ira was able to keep the troops safe and sound..."

That's a Gorgon, not some weak monster like a lizardman or a centaur.

Seeing Ira's helpless expression, Satanye smiled sheepishly, knowing she might be overthinking things. She said, "But, the Medusas... why did they really betray us completely?"

"..."

Even Iraq is seeking an answer to this question.

Do you think the loss is too great?

As Ira asked this question, he looked at the nearly four or five dead Black Knights and Headless Knights, and then at the countless Gorgons who had died, and said, "However, the corpses and souls of those Gorgons can be transformed into new Black Knights and Headless Knights."

"Yes, I know..."

Satan looked conflicted, which made Ira sigh. He opened his mouth, ready to say something like, "On the battlefield, losses are inevitable. As a king, you must get used to the losses of a Pyrrhic victory or a crushing defeat as soon as possible."

But he didn't want to talk about it anymore.

"So, should I make a move?"

Ira gazed gently at Satan Ye, lightly brushing the black World Runes on his neck, and said with a soft laugh, "After all, the return time is enough for them to recover to a sufficient level. If we don't use them... it seems a bit of a waste~"

"Eh? Is that alright, Mr. Ira?"

Seeing Satanye's seemingly excited expression, Ira gently patted her head and said indulgently, "Everything is as you wish, Satanye."
