Chapter Thirty-Six: The Arrest Warrant Lifted

“I propose that the warrant for the arrest of Ira Alkaras be lifted.”

"..."

At the suggestion of the newly appointed Chief Consul, Marila Elkaras, the whispers that had been filling the court instantly fell silent... This new chief consul, promoted by Her Majesty the Queen, really had a death wish.

Both the aristocratic faction and the Ira faction looked towards Isabella, who sat high on the throne.

Isabella, dressed in elaborate and ornate royal attire, sat there with a face that reflected the indifference of a king, seemingly offering no comment.

Just as when Ira was still alive, Isabella did not cry and fuss like a child when Ira was gone, as many malicious nobles had imagined. She disappointed many people... simply because she remained calm.

Why was the entire court silent?

Isabella's calm voice conveyed her opinion as she scanned the respectfully standing group and continued, "Agree or disagree? You need to give me an answer."

Her voice was calm and serene. Compared to her unreliable father, under Ira's tutelage, Isabella became a child to whom no adjective other than "king" could be found to describe her.

"Your Majesty! Even if Baron Lyman framed them first, and their entire clan has already been implicated and executed, Ira is still a traitor!"

An old-looking official spoke passionately, his words filled with accusations against Ira: "Ira Elkaras has long harbored rebellious intentions! Your Majesty, please investigate!"

Immediately, other officials stood up to refute the old man, and she practically pointed her finger at him, cursing, "You old scoundrel! Shut your mouth! His Majesty's opinion is none of your business!"

The girl with glasses looked like she was gritting her teeth, her eyes filled with adoration for the "Ira" she spoke of.

"Your Majesty! This old minister believes..."

"Your Majesty, if..."

"..."

They started hurling insults at each other in a completely orderly fashion... These officials are really a headache.

Isabella listened calmly as her subjects began to state their positions one by one... But now, the empire was no longer a one-man show by Isabella's faction.

“Your Majesty! Ira Elkaras is nothing but a traitor! He is a lowly man who deceived the late king to ascend to the throne, a commoner born from the mud! The Empire has no right to show mercy to those who are utterly incompetent!”

The atmosphere froze instantly. Everyone—whether from the aristocracy or the Iraqi faction—looked at the person who had just spoken, a young nobleman, as if he were a dead man.

Isabella is a queen who is easy to get along with and whose thoughts are easy to understand... probably.

In other words... she gets angry when people say good things about Ira, and she gets angry when people say bad things about Ira; she gets angry when Ira is constantly mentioned, and she gets angry when Ira is deliberately avoided; she gets angry when people say she is a qualified queen, and she gets angry when people say she is not a qualified queen; she gets angry when people say good things about her father, and she gets angry when people say bad things about her father... that's all.

Therefore, this statement has touched upon numerous sensitive issues, even going so far as to portray her approval of Iraq during her time in power as Iraq's deception of Iraqibella. In other words...

Although the other party did not mean it that way, they were actually implying that Isabella was as blind as her father, Joseph.

Moreover, Isabella actually knew him; she knew... that the nobleman in front of her had intricate connections with Baron Lyman, who had privately drafted the search warrant for the previous incident.

This is precisely why a seemingly ordinary, tacitly agreed-upon game of checks and balances between Iraq and Iraq has escalated into this irreversible situation...

Suppression and imprisonment, ordering someone to come and arresting someone—these may sound similar, but Ira actually enjoys seeing her do the former and will even personally teach her how to do it.

Because they are all the same kind of madmen.

But with unseen forces at play, with darkness within the empire, and with spies around her, everything changed, although... it must be admitted that the empire is now better than it was when Ira was there.

"Guards, take him away and lock him in the death row."

Isabella's calm words instantly crushed the young nobleman, whose eyes widened as he immediately let out inexplicable cries and sounds of bewildered sorrow... It seems he's just an ordinary fool.

He is one of the "nine out of ten nobles are brainless".

Isabella, who shared Ira's views and was filled with disgust for the mentally challenged, glanced over the palace stained with the excrement and urine left by the foolish nobleman, and looked at the silent civil and military officials without changing her expression.

"Effective immediately, the warrant for the arrest of Ira Alkaras is lifted."

Isabella's words sparked a heated discussion among the officials, but she did not give anyone a chance to object. Instead, she announced, "The morning court session is now adjourned... Minister Marilla, come to the Imperial Study."

As soon as she finished speaking, her maid helped her to her feet and left the hall.

...

Marilla... is the new chief consul and the mainstay of the Iraqi faction, but the aristocratic faction did not resist her as intensely as they resisted Iraq, because she was not as overwhelmingly powerful as Iraq.

The court discussions actually became much more relaxed.

A balance of factions and power is the key to the stability of the empire.

——————————

"Your Highness Isabella, I have fulfilled my mission."

Marilla spoke so respectfully, nodding to the empress who was reading a book before her, as she had proposed the cancellation of the warrant at the morning court session on Isabella's orders... Once she shed her elaborate attire, Isabella looked like a girl who was sixteen years old.

Rather than a cold-hearted king.

"Please have a seat. If I remember correctly, you came from the monster battlefield, right?"

Isabella, looking slightly more relaxed, asked the governor in front of her, a smile on her face, "How is Isabella doing?"

"???"

Seeing Marilla's expression, Isabella knew that the other woman was actually unaware of anything either. She sighed softly and said, "Is that so? However, this is not something to worry about, because Marilla is more suited to be a king than I am."

"..."

No one dared to respond to that.

"Your Majesty, do you regret issuing that decree?"

But Marilla dared.

"..."

"Rationally speaking, I do not regret it. Even if it was a misinterpreted decree, and even if it led to the departure of Minister Ira, I still believe that the empire would be stronger without Minister Ira."

Isabella responded in this way.

Marilla: "And from a more emotional perspective?"

"..."
