Chapter Thirty-Six: Keeping the Promise

Old Yang walked in warily and approached Lin Yang, who was checking the quality of the Chinese medicines he had purchased one by one.

At this time, the renovation of the traditional Chinese medicine clinic was nearing completion, and it was about to open for business.

Old Yang's construction team is doing the final two days of finishing work here before heading to another construction project that Wang Yuwei introduced them to.

"Mr. Lin, there's a man outside who looks like a homeless person. He says he's looking for you. Should I help you get rid of him?"

Lin Yang thought for a moment, but couldn't recall anyone he knew who could be like that.

"No need, I'll go take a look."

Old Yang didn't move, but whispered a reminder: "I think this guy might be from prison. He just asked us for the toilet and even raised his hand to ask for directions!"

“We have someone like that in our village. After serving three years, he still needs to submit a report for everything he does, and it takes him a month to change his ways!”

Lin Yang knew that Lao Yang meant well, but the mention of prison made Lin Yang even more eager to visit it.

"It's okay, I've also taken the blame for someone and gone to jail before."

Upon hearing this, Old Yang sighed and covered his mouth apologetically, saying, "Look at me, how much do I know? I've only met one person. Mr. Lin, you're busy."

Old Yang regretted it so much that he made way for him.

Lin Yang chuckled and said, "It's nothing. Now that I think about it, I feel a little regretful."

Upon reaching the door, the person outside immediately broke into a joyful smile upon seeing Lin Yang, shyly touching the monk's head with his hand: "Lin Yang, do you still remember me?"

Lin Yang recognized him at a glance, immediately walked over, and patted the man on the shoulder: "Zhou Ming! My roommate, how could I not remember you!"

"I remember how much trouble you saved me by taking care of me in prison!"

Lin Yang did receive care from Zhou Ming in prison. When he was released, Lin Yang told Zhou Ming that if he couldn't find a job, he could come to him.

After Zhou Ming returned home, he found that his wife had run off with someone else, his child was with his grandparents, the whole family was on welfare, and the child was eating garbage picked from the ground, which made him feel very guilty.

He tried to find a job, but he couldn't stay in any of them for long.

He committed burglary and injured someone, and was sentenced to seven years in prison. He served an additional two years in prison, for a total of nine years.

He couldn't break the habits that were deeply ingrained in prison. He would be spotted by sharp-eyed people wherever he went, and then he would be ostracized. He wasn't the kind of person who could tolerate that.

So, after much searching, when it came time for his child to pay tuition, he thought of trying Lin Yang's place.

Lin Yang said in prison that he was a big boss and that he would definitely be given a job when he got out.

Zhou Ming was actually skeptical. After making some inquiries, he discovered that Lin Yang's company had long been transferred to his wife's control, and not only that, the two had also divorced.

After going around in circles, I unexpectedly saw Lin Yang's name on a newspaper I picked up on the ground.

The story of Lin Yang bringing Zhang Qiping back to life at the hospital was reported.

Following this clue, Zhou Ming finally found Lin Yang.

"Your place is really big. If it weren't still under renovation, I probably wouldn't be able to get in here looking like this."

Lin Yang shook his head.

“This place was originally not open to the public, but after the project was handed over to me, I expanded the scale of the TCM clinic. The wealthy people inside can receive treatment, and people outside should naturally be able to as well.”

Zhou Ming, puzzled, cautiously asked, "You said you used to be a construction company's lawyer, how did you suddenly become a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner?"

Lin Yang simply smiled faintly: "A lot has happened during this time. I'll tell you slowly. But how about you?"

Lin Yang drove his luxury car to a roadside restaurant for dinner, and Zhou Ming became increasingly reserved.

"I... I've tried so many jobs, but I can't hold any of them for long. You know, we just got out of prison—"

At this point, Zhou Ming quickly interrupted.

Worried that Lin Yang wouldn't like to hear this and that bringing it up would make him angry, thus ruining the job opportunity.

To everyone's surprise, Lin Yang didn't shy away from the topic: "I had the same experience back then, and people looked down on me and doubted me. You must have had a tough time too, right?"

Zhou Ming sniffed and hummed in agreement: "Any job will do, as long as it gives me a career and makes my parents and children look at me with new respect!"

Lin Yang could see the unease in Zhou Ming's eyes.

"You're perfectly capable of being a security guard at the traditional Chinese medicine clinic. You've already seen the work location; if you think it's suitable—"

"Thank you, Lin Yang. I also went to the security guards, but they didn't want me because of my criminal record. Only you trust me like this!"

Zhou Ming wiped his hands on his clothes and stretched out his hand, then hurriedly tried to pull it back, but Lin Yang grabbed it tightly.

"Don't worry, you're my friend in times of trouble, don't be shy."

Zhou Ming nodded gratefully.

After dinner, Lin Yang took Zhou Ming to buy clothes.

"Deduct it from my salary, shall we?"

Zhou Ming smiled humbly, which made Lin Yang feel sorry for him.

"You know that the Zhongxing Building is inhabited by the richest of the rich. If you don't dress exceptionally well, they will have complaints. So this is all for work purposes. You don't need to worry about it; I'll arrange it."

Lin Yang led Zhou Ming into a department store that specializes in selling mid-to-high-end brands. Zhou Ming felt timid as he walked inside.

Lin Yang bought him a new set of clothes and casually threw away his old clothes.

“You won’t need to wear these clothes anymore, so you don’t need to keep them. I’ve thrown them away for you. Don’t dwell on the past; look forward.”

Zhou Ming looked at himself in the mirror, dressed in a suit and tie, and straightened his back.

"So handsome!"

The pretty saleswoman next to him smiled sweetly and came over to help Zhou Ming adjust his coat.

"These leather shoes are perfect for this outfit, would you like to try them on?"

Lin Yang said directly, "Choose at least three pairs of shoes. Brother Zhou, try them on and choose the ones you like."

The pretty saleswoman originally didn't want to come over to serve us.

If it weren't for Lin Yang's distinguished appearance and the black card in his hand, I would have reluctantly endured coming.

Unexpectedly, I bought so much at once, and the beautiful saleswoman was very attentive.

He knelt on the ground and personally put on Zhou Ming's shoes.

After changing his clothes, Zhou Ming learned to adapt. The beautiful saleswoman brought over her shoes with her fair hands, and he simply sat down and offered her his feet.

The shoehorn is pulled out, and it's both comfortable and stylish. Wearing this outfit, you don't look like a security guard at all; you look like a boss!

Lin Yang simply moved his fingers, and the shoes and suit were put into the bag.

"I need clothes for work, and I also need convenient clothes for after get off work."

Lin Yang led Zhou Ming upstairs to the sportswear store, where the sales clerk greeted them with a smile.

"Gentlemen, what do you need?"

Lin Yang nodded to Zhou Ming, who then said, "I need a shirt, pants, and sneakers."

"Here, we have our latest models. Would you like to take a look?"

Lin Yang sat on the sofa, letting Zhou Ming choose as he pleased.

Then I saw a couple walk in. The woman was dressed like a Barbie doll and clung to the man, speaking in a coquettish voice.

"I want to run with you!"

"Let's buy matching couple outfits!"
