Chapter 1: Half of the river is rustling, and half of the river is red

Chapter 1: Half of the river is rustling, and half of the river is red

At the age of 22, Lu Zhenzhu married Gu Huai without hesitation as soon as she reached the legal age.

Everyone envied her good fortune - Gu Huai was the man who had the final say in the circle, and he just held her in the palm of his hand.

On her eighteenth birthday, he personally risked his life to dive into the deep sea and collect the largest pearls as a gift for her.

Even the title page of each book is filled with half a line of the poem "Dew is like pearls and the moon is like a hook."

She always thought the poems were written in her name.

At that time, she thought she was the happiest person in the world and that Gu Huai's love for her was deeper than the sea.

Not long after her marriage, she found an old photo in the cabinet.

The girl in the photo looks very similar to her, and the mole at the corner of her eye is exactly the same.

The full poem is written on the back: "Half the river is rustling, half the river is red, the dew is like pearls and the moon is like a hook."

The handwriting in the two lines is different: one is delicate like a girl's, and the other is wild like his style.

The final signatures are "Jiang Sese" and "Gu Huai".

She stared at the photo and suddenly understood everything...

Lu Zhenzhu suddenly laughed, and as she laughed, tears fell.

She sat on the floor for a long time, clutching the photo.

Finally, she tremblingly took out her cell phone and contacted a law firm to draft a divorce agreement.

As her fingertips touched the screen, her phone suddenly vibrated and a message from the hospital popped up: "Ms. Lu, you are six weeks pregnant."

The phone fell to the ground with a "click", and her pale face was reflected on the screen.

There was a vague feeling of heaviness in my lower abdomen, as if something tiny was taking root there.

Her tears welled up again, this time they were hot.

"Baby..." she whispered softly into the air, her voice shattered like pearls falling to the ground, "What should Mommy do with you?"

His fingertips passed over the name "Jiang Sesur" on the photo, and finally stopped at the slightly bulging belly.

She slowly stuffed the photo into the bottom of the drawer and carefully covered it with a cashmere sweater - just like burying her broken heart into the bottomless darkness.

She told herself that even if she had to die and keep the son, she had to keep this child.

At this time, she received a call from her best friend Yu Tang.

"Zhenzhu, come to room 308 of the club quickly..." Xiaotang's voice trembled with suppression, "I saw Gu Huai and a girl..."

When her bestie asked her to pick someone up at the club, she didn't expect to run into Jiang Sese.

The moment I pushed open the VIP box, the smell of cigarettes and alcohol floated in the cold light of the crystal chandelier.

Lu Zhenzhu saw Jiang Sese huddled in the corner of the sofa at a glance.

It really looks like...

She suddenly remembered that Gu Huai always touched her hair when he was drunk, and murmured, "It's so like that."

Her throat felt like it was clogged with cotton. She wanted to say, "I don't look like him at all," but she could only shout, "Gu Huai."

"Mr. Gu, your wife is here." Someone shouted.

Only then did Lu Zhenzhu notice the man leaning on the couch - his forehead was slightly wet, his tie hung loosely around his neck, a cigar was held between his fingertips, his posture was casual yet dignified.

When he saw her, he raised his eyes slightly: "Why are you here wearing such thin clothes?"

Gu Huai waved at her, his voice hoarse from drinking.

She approached silently, but was pulled into his arms, and the smell of cigar mixed with cologne hit her face.

There was ambiguous laughter all around, and someone joked, "Mr. Gu really dotes on his wife."

But she noticed that Jiang Sesu in the corner was staring at their overlapping hands, with her fingertips deeply pinching into her palms.

Suddenly someone whistled and pointed at Jiang Sese and laughed: "Sese, your ex-boyfriend is here, please ask Mr. Gu to renew the loan for your dad!"

Amidst the laughter, someone shouted, "You were so nice before, now if you sleep with Mr. Gu, won't the money come?"

Lu Zhenzhu felt Gu Huai's hand on her shoulder suddenly tense. He looked over with a cigarette in his mouth, the cigarette butt flickering in the dim light.

She thought he would sneer, but she heard him speak slowly: "Stop talking nonsense."

He exhaled a puff of cigarette and leaned even more heavily on her: "If my wife is unhappy, you won't have an easy life."

Laughter broke out all around.

Jiang Sesur's face flushed instantly.

The man who teased her rubbed her shoulders with his greasy hands and laughed with a drunken odor: "Why, Mr. Gu doesn't want you anymore?"

He hooked his fingertips around the collar of her sweater and pulled it down: "Don't be afraid, brother loves you - come with me tonight, serve me well, and I'll give you enough pocket money."

Lu Zhenzhu saw that Gu Huai's fingertips on the armrest of the sofa suddenly tightened, his knuckles turned white, and veins bulged on the back of his hand that was holding the wine bottle.

He still felt distressed.

"I don't want it!" Jiang Sesu held back her tears and looked up at Gu Huai, "I only recognize one person in this life... Even if he doesn't want me, I won't let anyone else touch me!"

After saying that, she turned and left, her high heels tapping out a hurried rhythm on the ground.

Her words hit Lu Zhenzhu's heart like a heavy hammer.

Lu Zhenzhu saw Gu Huai rubbing his temples with his eyes closed, his fingertips tapping a rapid rhythm on the armrest of the sofa - that was his habit when he was suppressing his anger.

The next second, he suddenly opened his eyes, his gaze swept across the end of Jiang Sese's blue eyes, and his voice suddenly turned cold: "I'm going to the bathroom."

"Also, watch your mouths from now on."

No one in the audience dared to say a word.

For some unknown reason, Lu Zhenzhu followed.

Under the safety light at the end of the corridor, Gu Huai actually wiped the wine stains from Jiang Sese's wrist with a wet wipe, his movements as gentle as if he was coaxing a frightened cat.

She suddenly shuddered and pulled her hands back, causing her sleeves to slide down half an inch, revealing the pale blue tattoo on her wrist - the cursive English word "Huai" was faintly visible beneath her skin.

"What is this?" Gu Huai's fingertips suddenly paused, and the water stains on the wet wipes dripped onto the back of her hand, just like his suddenly accelerated heartbeat.

Jiang Sesu hurriedly covered the tattoo with his other hand, his fingertips trembling: "Nothing..."

She lowered her head to avoid his gaze, her hair falling to cover the red corners of her eyes.

Gu Huai grabbed her wrist with such force that she let out a soft cry.

The security light cast a shadow on his brow, but it couldn't hide the dark tide surging in his eyes: "Answer me."

"Don't be like this..." Jiang Sesu's voice was crying, and her nails dug into his palm, "Please don't ask..."

Gu Huai's Adam's apple rolled: "Then your family went bankrupt..."

Jiang Sesu suddenly choked and threw herself into his arms: "My dad is sick, and the chemotherapy costs a lot of money... I have no choice, I have to leave you..."

"Why?" Gu Huai's voice was muffled, but his arms gradually tightened. "I can help you."

"You were already struggling with your own affairs..." Her tears seeped into his shirt, "I can't be a burden to you anymore..."

She lifted her sleeves, revealing the scars on the inside: "Look, each scar represents the nights I missed you... I would rather die than touch another man..."

Gu Huai's eyes were instantly flooded with pain. He lowered his head and kissed the tattoo on her wrist, as if comforting a wounded animal.

Jiang Sesu leaned against him, trembling all over: "I would rather die than let you think I am that kind of person... I know you have a wife now..."

She suddenly looked up, tears welling in her almond-shaped eyes. "But every time I see her, I can't help but think of what you said about marrying me."

Jiang Sesu threw herself into his arms, crying out of breath.

Gu Huai did not push her away, but held her tightly in his arms.

Lu Zhenzhu stood quietly outside, looking at the message she had just received from Gu Huai on her phone: "I met a partner, and I have an appointment tonight, so I won't be going back."

What a clumsy lie, just like he said he loved her, but she used to be happy with it...
