Chapter 104 Go Your Way

Ye Lei patted his arm hard, "Don't worry about me at the academy. Just go your own way. I'll take care of things at home."

He wasn't jealous of Ye Ming's studies; he believed Ye Ming would achieve even greater things than him in the future.

He remembered that because he didn't have money, Ye Ming couldn't continue his studies. He acted nonchalant in front of his family every day, but cried in bed at night.

He will always remember how painful and helpless he felt listening to that crying.

He is overjoyed that his younger brother can continue his studies.

Ye Ming punched Ye Lei in the chest, "Big brother and sister-in-law, hurry up and give me a nephew or niece."

These words immediately put Old Lady Ye and Madam Sun on edge.

The two women wanted to have a baby, but Ye Panjiu had told them beforehand not to rush it.

This would put Wang Jiao under psychological pressure.

Neither of them said that.

Wang Jiao smiled and said, "We will try our best."

The two breathed a sigh of relief, as long as they didn't want the child.

Madam Sun took a large package out of the carriage and handed it to Ye Ming, saying, "Ming'er, these are the clothes your mother made for you, as well as the pens and other things your grandparents bought for you. You must take good care of yourself. If possible, come to Shuzhou for the New Year and celebrate together."

Ye Ming took the heavy package, his heart filled with warmth and happiness. "Mom, I have exams in February, and I really can't find the time. I'll definitely come home and spend some time with you after I finish my exams. Have a good time in Shuzhou."

Sun's eyes reddened, and she wanted to say something, but her throat tightened, and she grabbed Ye Ming's hand and patted it hard.

Ye Panjiu felt sorry for her, "Alright, go back and study tomorrow. If we don't leave now, we'll have to travel in the dark. We'll come back after the New Year. Good luck."

Ye Ming didn't dare look at Sun Shi, nodded vigorously, waved his hand, and turned to climb the stairs.

The boy's shoulders have grown broad, and he walks with firm steps.

He never looked back.

As Mrs. Sun watched that retreating figure, tears streamed down her face.

Ye Erniu put his arm around her and led her to the carriage, whispering to comfort her, "It's okay, don't cry. Didn't you say you'd go home after the exams in February?"

With a sob in her voice, Mrs. Sun said, "I sent him to school in October, and I've only seen him twice since then. There are still two whole months until February, and I won't be able to see him even once."

She wiped away her tears, "His fifteenth year is only one year, and his sixteenth year is only one year. I can't bear to see him for so little!"

What pains her is that her child's world will become more and more wonderful, and her parents will need her child more and more, but she can only watch his back as he walks away.

I hope to see him more often.

Bailu Academy is good; it will help Ming'er progress faster and better. However, it also means she will rarely see her son anymore.

Ye Erniu was also saddened, and drove the oxcart.

Ye Panjiu sat down next to Madam Sun, put his arm around her, and kept handing her a handkerchief.

She didn't say anything, letting Mrs. Sun process her emotions quietly on her own.

Being separated from one's own flesh and blood for long periods is an incredibly painful thing.

When Peach Blossom and Ling'er grow up and leave her after they're finished, she feels extremely sad just thinking about it.

He really wanted to find a husband for his daughter.

The carriage continued forward without stopping for lunch.

They brought some dry rations and ate a simple meal on the carriage.

Ye Panjiu felt sleepy from the swaying of the carriage and fell asleep with her head resting on the carriage bed.

Mrs. Sun put a cushion under her head, afraid that she would hurt her head from bumping it.

Finally, after Ye Panjiu woke up and fell asleep several times, they arrived at the gate of Shuzhou City at dusk.

Sun excitedly woke Ye Panjiu, "We're here! Little sister, we've arrived! This city gate is truly magnificent!"

Ye Panjiu opened her eyes and looked out of the carriage.

The city gate is tall and majestic, constructed from massive stones. Above it stands a towering structure with flying eaves, bracket sets, carved beams, and painted rafters, displaying its splendor and majesty.

The vermilion gate, thick and sturdy, was inlaid with rows of huge copper nails, which gleamed brightly in the twilight.

Because it was getting dark, there weren't many people or horses in front of the city gate.

Several soldiers were checking people at the gate. One of them walked up to their carriage and asked, "Where are you from? What are you doing in Shuzhou?"

Ye Panjiu took out the travel permit and handed it to Ye Erniu outside the carriage, "Second Brother, give this to them."

Ye Erniu respectfully handed him the travel permit, "Sir, we're from Qingshui County."

The soldier was startled when he saw the Prime Minister's private seal on the travel permit. He immediately returned the permit to Ye Erniu with great enthusiasm, saying, "My lord, please don't take my rudeness to heart."

He raised his hand and shouted, "Quickly let the adults pass!"

Ye Erniu put away the travel permit with a blank expression.

grown ups?

What kind of adult is he?

Upon entering Shuzhou city, the streets were bustling with people, and the towering buildings on both sides of the street were brightly lit with lanterns even though it wasn't completely dark yet, illuminating Shuzhou.

"City people are really rich! So many lights, how much soybean oil must have been used up!" Mrs. Sun exclaimed.

Ye Panjiu looked around with a smile. There was no curfew in the Great Liang Dynasty, and there was a bustling night market.

From afar, the sounds of string and bamboo instruments and the melodious singing of female singers drifted from the flower boats on the riverbank.

"It's so lively!" Ye Taohua exclaimed excitedly.

Ye Erniu shouted from the front, "Little sister, where are we going?"

Ye Panjiu gave a name, "It's right across from Zuixianlou."

Ye Erniu scratched his head, jumped off the car, and asked a vendor selling bowls of food he couldn't tell what they were, "Brother, do you know how to get to Zuixianlou?"

When the vendor heard "Drunken Immortal Pavilion," he thought, "This is a restaurant only the wealthy can afford to go to."

He gave him directions very enthusiastically: "Go straight for three intersections, then turn right at the fourth intersection and you'll be there."

Ye Erniu nodded repeatedly, "Thank you, brother. What are you selling?"

The vendor pointed to each item, saying, "I just came out, it's still warm. Drinks, lychee syrup, almond paste, and sugared mung beans. All five coins a bowl."

Ye Taohua stuck her head out of the carriage window, "Second Uncle, I want to eat that red one."

Ye Erniu replied, "Okay!"

Turning to the vendor, he said, "Give us four bowls of each of these, there are many of us."

He took out eighty coins and handed them to the vendor.

Eighty coins, he spends them without batting an eye these days!

This is only a portion of his allowance!

Wow, it's good to be rich.

The vendor was overjoyed; this was a real big customer. He served him bowl after bowl.

Ye Erniu would deliver two bowls at a time to the carriage.

The vendor, Sheng Hao, also helped him load the goods onto the carriage.

Ye Panjiu chose a bowl of lychee syrup water, and then tried Sun's sugared mung bean soup with a spoon; it was a bit too sweet.

I also tried the osmanthus-flavored drink, which had perilla leaves in it, and the taste was quite unique.

Finally, I also tried Ye Ling'er's almond paste. The bitterness of the almonds was masked, and it tasted quite good.

Several people tried it one by one.

This bowl was sold together, and the carriage moved forward.

Ye Panjiu was quite curious about the house she would be staying in in Shuzhou.

Above the entrance of Zuixianlou hangs a gilded plaque with the three large characters "Zuixianlou" inscribed on it.

The restaurant's exterior walls are inlaid with colorful glazed bricks, with flying eaves, brackets, carved beams and painted rafters, and copper bells on the eaves swaying in the wind, making a crisp sound.
