Yan Yu looked at him as if he had seen a ghost and turned back.
Who did he just see?
who?
leaf?
Good heavens! Oh my god!
Yan Yu coughed, then turned his head and saw Heng Tong again. Heng Tong was stretching and yawning, so Yan Yu quickly waved his hand.
Wang Yichun sighed heavily, his face full of concern for the country and its people. "It is indeed a maritime disaster. Yesterday, the wind and waves rose again, creating a dangerous situation. Nine out of ten ships that went out did not return."
He pointed to the families with white silk ribbons and said, "Sir, look, these are the families who were shipwrecked yesterday and have not returned."
The fake Su Yan frowned. Although he was not close to the court, he was not without brains.
The boat he boarded last night was completely still. It's all the same river, how could it be so calm after the raging waves?
Yan Yu walked forward and knocked on the nearest house.
A woman came out, wearing a white flower in her hair, her eyes red and swollen from crying.
"Madam, please accept my condolences. May I ask who in your family is in mourning?"
As Yan Yu spoke, she took out two silver ingots and placed them on the window frame, her movements very subtle.
The woman saw this and was even more distressed by this act of kindness. "I am mourning my husband. He went out yesterday and has not returned since. He and his group always come back every day."
"Waaaaah! My husband, he just left me and our four children like this! How am I going to live from now on?!"
Yan Yu could only bow to her again and say, "Please accept my condolences."
He turned back and said to the fake Su Yan, "Sir, the woman is currently mourning her husband, and the group of fishermen who went with him have not returned."
The fake Su Yan nodded. "It seems there really was a shipwreck. I will definitely report the truth to His Majesty."
Wang Yichun was stunned. He hadn't even had a chance to mention that most of the fishermen's houses on the riverbank were empty because of maritime disasters.
Is Prime Minister Su so easily fooled?
Yan Yu coughed lightly.
Fake Su Yan was so shocked he couldn't help but scream, "He...he...he misspoke!"
He paused, a bead of cold sweat trickling down the back of his neck. "But there's no rush. I've only just arrived in Yangzhou; I should take another look around."
Wang Yichun nodded repeatedly, "That's right, I'll send people to distribute porridge at the dock right away."
The fake Su Yan's mind raced. "That's right. I feel uneasy having Lord Wang with me all the time."
Wang Yichun breathed a sigh of relief. See? That's more like it. How could Su Yan possibly listen to only his side of the story? He would definitely want to see for himself.
He bowed and said, "Then I shall take my leave. If Prime Minister Su needs anything from me, please feel free to ask."
The fake Su Yan returned the greeting, a detail he remembered vividly, as Su Yan was very fond of bowing to people.
Wang Yichun left, leaving two guards to follow behind the two.
Yan Yu waved her hand, "The master doesn't like to be too close."
The two guards exchanged a glance and then stepped back.
The fake Su Yan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Yan Yu whispered to him, "I have urgent business to attend to and need to leave. You go and keep an eye on the porridge distribution. Make sure the porridge isn't too watery, or it will discourage the fishermen."
The fake Su Yan agreed.
This answer comes at a very high price, but it's much simpler if it's not done in front of Wang Yichun.
Yan Yu turned and went into the alley. The two guards did not move, but someone in the shadows immediately followed.
Yan Yu didn't care and wandered around, even buying a lot of clothes.
Finally, he went into a teahouse, changed his clothes, grabbed a teacup, and jumped onto the roof beam.
He then casually tossed the teacup onto the doorway.
"Bang!"
The two people outside the door exchanged a glance, rushed in, and stepped on shards of teacup, hurting their feet.
Yan Yu covered her mouth and laughed.
"Ouch!" a tall, thin man cried out, clutching his leg.
"Who the hell threw that! Damn it!" Another person, who was fatter, had his foot pierced and bleeding.
"Where is everyone?! Why is no one here?!"
The two stared at each other, their eyes wide.
The tall, thin man rushed into the house, looked around but didn't see anyone, and then looked up at the ceiling.
There was nobody there.
"It's all over!" he muttered, then quickly looked at the windows, which were all closed.
He opened the window again and looked out, seeing a similar figure on the street. "There!"
The fat man, not daring to lose his way, ignored the fact that his foot was still bleeding and ran quickly downstairs.
"This fucking hurts!" he cursed under his breath.
The tall, thin man also ran quickly downstairs.
If the two of them lose track of the person, they certainly won't be able to explain themselves back to Lord Wang.
If I fail to deliver, I might lose my life!
This is how Lord Wang treats people who handle complicated matters.
Yan Yu shook her head, stepped down from the roof beam, lightly touched the window frame with her toes, and flew directly to the eaves, quickly landing on another street.
He suddenly understood why adults loved to wear white clothes; wearing white clothes made one look the most attractive and similar to others on the street.
After shaking off his pursuers, he quickly headed towards Hai Le Zhai.
Ye Panjiu was currently in Haizhen Pavilion next to Hailezhai.
Haizhen Pavilion was the largest auction house in Yangzhou.
Pushing open the door and entering the hall, one is greeted by a magnificent and resplendent scene. The ceiling beams are extremely high and covered with murals depicting auspicious clouds, mythical beasts, and rare birds, all in vibrant colors.
Several octagonal glass lamps hung downwards, each containing incense and candles, reflecting various colors of light and creating a dreamlike atmosphere in the Haizhen Pavilion.
Ye Panjiu carefully examined each item on the mahogany cabinet.
A wall cabinet was filled with a dazzling array of pearls, corals, agates, and gemstones, their small square compartments gleaming with crystal clarity.
She casually picked up a rather unique emerald, which looked like a glassy jadeite.
Immediately, a woman dressed in overseas attire stepped forward and said, "Sir, you have excellent taste. This gem is the best we have here."
Ye Panjiu looked at the dress she was wearing, which resembled clothing from India. "How much does it cost?"
The woman held up five fingers. "Only fifty taels. The price is even lower today. It's usually sixty taels."
Ye Panjiu smiled, "Miss, this gemstone is covered in dust, so it's clear that no customer has touched it. You're asking for this price? Twenty taels."
The woman's eyes lit up. Indeed, no one had touched the gemstones. Who could possibly wipe all the gemstones on this wall every day?
"Deal. I'll go wrap it up for you."
Ye Panjiu raised her hand to stop her, "Wait a moment, where is your auction?"
“You look like a stranger. Our auction house has a threshold; you have to spend a hundred taels of silver in this hall to get in.”
Heng Tong pursed her lips; she had never heard of anything so dark.
Ye Panjiu nodded and continued walking forward.
Beyond the wall of gemstones lies a wall of spices, including frankincense, agarwood, and many other varieties, each with different uses.
The top layer of ambergris was very prominent; she knew it was known as the king of spices, and she also knew it was not something she could afford.
Ye Panjiu picked out a fragrant balm she liked, which cost another five taels of silver.
Later came luxury items such as tortoiseshell, rhinoceros horn, ginseng, and folding fans.
Ye Panjiu looked at the last wall of frosted glass bottles, as well as many glass goblets and glasses.
