Wang Yichun drew his knife and held it to a soldier's neck, demanding, "Let go or not!"
The knife was very sharp, and it drew a thin line of blood.
The soldiers trembled with fear, and the arrows shot straight out.
Because the arrow wasn't pulled hard enough, it missed its target.
Heng Tong, standing in the crowd, thought of what Ye Panjiu had told him.
"Hengtong, if something happens in Yangzhou, seize the opportunity to incite the people's anger, and you will surely destroy Wang Yichun."
She shouted, "Heaven is unjust! Corrupt officials are in power! Kill Wang Yichun!"
"Kill this corrupt official!" a middle-aged man's voice rang out.
Many among the common people echoed this sentiment. They had endured too much injustice, struggling to survive, and had long suppressed their pent-up emotions.
With someone taking the lead, they followed without hesitation.
Wang Yichun was terrified. He pushed aside the soldiers beside him, snatched the bow and arrows, and shouted angrily, "Insolence! Insolence! A bunch of lowly commoners, shut up!"
But he was so fat that he no longer had the strength to draw a bow.
The people rioted and rushed to the city walls.
The junior officer shouted, "Stop them all! Anyone who tries to break in will be killed on sight!"
The soldiers who were actually blocking the way were all perfunctory and were easily pushed aside by the people.
Wang Yichun was so frightened that he dropped his bow and arrows. His aide shouted from the side, "My lord, let's go back to the manor first!"
He nodded repeatedly and was escorted down the stairs on the other side.
Suddenly, he felt a sharp, surging pain in his waist.
He lowered his head, staring incredulously at the knife at his waist.
The man with the knife laughed and pushed the knife further in.
"You, how dare you!"
He clutched his waist, lost his balance, and fell forward.
Lying on the city wall, Wang Yichun looked at the feet of these people. How could he be looking at other people's feet?
He is the eldest son of the Wang family, the most prestigious family in Daliang. He has been worshipped by others since birth. How can he be so humiliated as to fall at someone else's feet?
His aides watched but didn't help him up.
Everything was over; he would never get his hundred taels of gold.
Jiang Ji drew his sword; he had just followed Wang Yichun up the city wall.
His anger was like a wildfire. He carried the knife that Jiang Le'an had given him and could no longer hold back. He plunged the knife into Wang Yichun's body.
"Yes, we lowly commoners wouldn't dare! Lord Wang's life is of utmost importance!"
While he was in the dungeon, he heard Wang Yichun cursing at him.
Anyone can accuse him of being treacherous, so why can Wang Yichun say so too?!
Jiang Ji's face contorted with sarcasm. Without hesitation, he drew his knife and with another stroke, severed Wang Yichun's head.
His brother still loves him; the things he gives him are still so useful.
Even this knife is so sharp.
Thinking of this, for some reason, tears welled up in his eyes.
He regretted it, he regretted it completely.
But everything is gone.
The staff fled in terror; he's a madman!
Who knows if you'll be the next victim of their blade!
Jiang Ji lifted Wang Yichun's head, stood up, and shouted to the crowd that was still rushing forward, "Wang Yichun is dead!"
The people were stunned.
The officers and soldiers were also stunned.
Jiang Ji casually tossed his head over, as if he were throwing away some kind of trash.
Bright red blood splattered in an arc in the air.
The people all took a step back.
The little boy at the front cried and kicked Wang Yichun in the head, yelling, "Give me back my mother! My mother starved to death! Waaaaah—"
The cries were mournful, and the little boy knelt down, sobbing.
The sound of crying echoed throughout the heavens and earth.
Looking at the boy, Jiang Ji felt as if she were seeing her younger self.
He stood on the wall, looking at the city of Yangzhou and the sails of ships fluttering on the sea.
He was lost in confusion. He had only seen the money he was getting, and he hadn't realized how beautiful Yangzhou was.
Jiang Ji closed his eyes. The law does not punish the masses, but he had plotted to harm an official of the imperial court, so he could not escape death.
The wind grew stronger, and he leaned forward.
Her body drifted down like a kite with a broken string.
Brother, your treacherous younger brother has come to apologize to you.
"Bang!"
He crashed onto the blue bricks, his brains splattering everywhere.
The people looked at each other, then dispersed.
With Wang Yichun dead, the feud ended.
Heng Tong looked at Jiang Leyue beside her, "Do you hate him?"
Jiang Leyue walked towards Jiang Ji's corpse without expression or saying a word.
The person who used to laugh the most will never laugh again.
She has lost everything.
She had just buried her own brother that morning, and now she was about to bury her godbrother.
Heng Tong followed beside her.
It's somewhat cruel, but there's no other way.
The entire city of Yangzhou was in chaos. Teahouses were packed with people, and the once-enthusiastic storyteller could no longer drown out the chatter of the common people.
"It's over. That corrupt official Wang Yichun is dead. I wonder what the court will do?"
"What's there to be afraid of? We can't possibly drag all the people of a city out and behead them. If we really have to behead them, I'll just chop down the new corrupt official!"
"Exactly! What's there to be afraid of! If we all unite, no one can bully us anymore!"
Everyone was indignant. After being oppressed and exploited for so many years, their faces were beaming with smiles once they were free.
The little boy eventually hung Wang Yichun's head on the city wall at the west gate.
He hated him to death; even though Wang Yichun was dead, he wanted to ensure he was never properly buried.
He will stay here and watch over his mother's grave.
Perhaps if she takes that bowl of porridge, her mother won't starve to death.
Wang Yichun's eyes were wide open, filled with terror.
His last thought before he died was that his father was right; the dungeon was indeed an unfortunate place, and he had only been there for a short while.
