They wandered along the road for two more days, spending a day each in Lizhou and Mozhou, but didn't run into their second sister-in-law and the others.
So Ye Panjiu decided not to go anywhere else and headed straight for Qingshui Village.
She really missed home.
On March 16th, at noon, two horse-drawn carriages stopped in front of the Ye family's house.
Ye Panjiu's heart was pounding, and she finally understood the feeling of the saying, "The closer one gets to home, the more timid one becomes."
She didn't have a village before.
She dismounted and went to knock on the door.
"Coming, coming." A familiar voice came from inside the door.
Ye Panjiu's eyes lit up, and her face was full of smiles.
As soon as the door opened from the inside, she shouted, "Hey!"
Startled, Madam Sun clutched her chest. Realizing what had happened, she rushed forward and hugged Ye Panjiu tightly. "You're finally back! I've missed you so much, Second Sister-in-law!"
Ye Panjiu patted her back, "I missed my second sister-in-law too. When did you come back?"
Mrs. Sun released her, beaming, "I just got back yesterday, what a coincidence that we're leaving right after each other! I was planning to leave again tomorrow!"
Ye Panjiu frowned. "Why are you leaving again so soon after you just got back? Can't you stay home a few more days?"
Ye Erniu walked over upon hearing the sound, and upon seeing Ye Panjiu, he excitedly exclaimed, "Little sister!"
Then she turned around and shouted, "Little sister is back!"
Ye Panjiu called out to him with a smile, "Second Brother, it's been a long time. You seem to have gained some weight."
Sun glanced at Ye Erniu sideways and said, "He's eating more and more these days, he can't control his mouth anymore, and he's gotten fat."
Ye Erniu scratched his head, realizing that he too had been distracted by the delicious food outside!
Once I stepped outside, I realized there were so many delicious foods out there!
Many things opened his eyes. For example, the meat could actually taste sweet and sour, and most importantly, it was really delicious!
He couldn't stop himself from gaining weight.
"There are so many new and exciting foods out there, I can't control my cravings," he said, sounding somewhat aggrieved.
Looking at Ye Panjiu, Madam Sun said, "My little sister has gone even further, and she seems to have gotten even thinner."
"This trip was exhausting, but thankfully I won't have to be this tired in the future. I'll just gain weight as soon as I get home."
As she spoke, her mouth watered; her sister-in-law's cooking was amazing!
Heng Tong called out from his horse, "Second sister-in-law, second brother, let me pull the carriage in first."
Why did they start chatting even before they were at the door?
At this moment, Guan Muning emerged from behind the screen wall, her steps quick, and rushed straight to Ye Panjiu, hugging her tightly. "Sister Panjiu, you're finally back!"
Ye Panjiu was so bumped by her that she took a small half step back. "You're back, you're back. What happened?"
Guan Muning sniffed, "It's just that I haven't seen you in so long, I miss you so much."
Ye Panjiu patted her shoulder, "You're all back now, so be happy, don't cry."
Mrs. Sun nodded repeatedly, "Little sister is right, we won't cry."
The group made way, and the coachman pulled in two carriages.
Jiang Leyue stepped down from the carriage and hid behind Heng Tong shyly.
Mrs. Sun was very curious, "Whose daughter is this? My little sister went out and now she has another person with her when she comes home."
Ye Panjiu introduced her, "Her name is Jiang Leyue."
She didn't say much else.
Ms. Sun remarked, "She looks exceptionally beautiful."
Ye Panjiu linked arms with her left arm and Guan Muning with her right, saying, "Where is the rest of the family? Come inside quickly and tell me what you've been doing for the past month or so."
She was very curious.
As she walked in with a smile, Mrs. Sun said, “My parents couldn’t stay at home, so they went to the fields again. I came back to check on them, and the wheat seedlings in the fields are growing so well this year! The vegetables in the middle garden are also lush and green, which makes me happy just looking at them.”
Ye Panjiu listened quietly, her eyes full of smiles.
Looking at the familiar bricks and tiles of the Ye family home, she felt all the pressure and tension from the journey dissipate behind her.
My whole body relaxed.
That's the charm of home.
"My sister-in-law took Cuihua to the shop. The shop is even more lively now. In addition to selling braised food, my sister-in-law also sells some cold dishes that she makes herself. They are a perfect match with the braised food!"
Ye Panjiu could already picture it in her mind. "I have to try it at noon. I've been craving my sister-in-law's cooking for so long."
"That's right. When I'm away from home, even though there are many new and interesting foods, after eating them for a while, I start to miss my sister-in-law's cooking and the big round table at home."
The group is now gathered around a large round table, on which are placed sunflower seeds and snacks.
Sun was busy talking and didn't have time to eat melon seeds, but Ye Panjiu grabbed a handful and started coughing.
Ye Erniu rarely got a chance to chime in, "Sister-in-law's cold dishes are now famous in the village. She said that if it weren't for her younger sister's shop, she would never have thought that she would actually start selling cold dishes."
The key was that cold chili salad; Liu's chili sauce was incredibly fragrant.
I don't know what they put in it, but every time we eat cold dishes, my family eats significantly more than usual.
It's just that cold dishes use a lot of oil, so we only started eating them when we had more money.
In the past, I would never have eaten it.
Ye Panjiu swallowed hard, picked up her teacup and took a sip. "You're making my mouth water. My sister-in-law will be back soon too."
Sun looked up at the sun and said, "Erniu, it's time to go and call your parents back. The sun is so strong; we can't let them get heatstroke in the fields."
Old Man Ye and Old Woman Ye have been busy all their lives and can't sit still, let alone sit idly at home.
Once he went to the fields, he didn't want to go home at all. If it weren't for the fact that Sun and the others had returned these past two days, Ye Erniu would go to the fields to call him every noon and never go home at noon.
Cuihua was the one who delivered the meals, and they would eat a couple of bites in the fields amidst the wind and sand.
Even Liu and Ye Daniu couldn't persuade them.
Ye Erniu picked up a handful of melon seeds, stood up, and said, "It'll be easy today. As soon as I say my little sister is back, the old couple will definitely run faster than I do."
Ye Panjiu was both amused and exasperated, and instructed, "Tell your parents not to rush, and make sure they don't fall or get hurt."
Ye Erniu nodded repeatedly, "Don't worry, little sister, your second brother is going."
After saying that, he walked away with light steps.
Ye Panjiu then looked at Madam Sun and asked, "What about the osmanthus?"
At this moment, Wang Jiao touched her belly and slowly walked into the main room.
Ye Panjiu quickly stood up to help her, "Jiaojiao, you have to be careful."
Wang Jiao smiled and nodded. She was now more than five months pregnant, and her belly was very noticeable.
The Ye family members were very nervous around her, treating her like a fragile vase.
She also has money. The Ye family doesn't allow the younger generation to contribute to the public fund, but the expenses of the public fund are all paid by the grandparents.
"How's your appetite lately?" Ye Panjiu knelt down and brought her head close to Wang Jiao's stomach.
Wang Jiao smiled and said, "My appetite is alright."
Actually, she vomits a lot and can't eat much.
But her aunt would cook all sorts of different dishes for her every day, which somehow increased her appetite.
Ye Panjiu could hear the fetal heartbeat, a tiny life beginning to sprout.
This little life should call her great-aunt, because they are related by blood.
This feeling is amazing.
