Chapter 7: Not Confident Against Two Opponents

Hearing Granny Fan's shouts, the two children were so frightened that they grabbed Han Yiyi's sleeve and hid behind her.

When Han Yi saw the old hag Fan cursing the three of them with a sharp tongue and spittle flying everywhere, her anger surged. Just as she was about to step forward and slap the old hag twice, her sleeve was grabbed.

"Han girl, don't be impulsive, be careful not to hurt the child..."

It turned out to be Aunt Zhang from the courtyard. Hearing the commotion outside, she quickly stepped forward and grabbed Han Yiyi's sleeve.

Listening to Aunt Zhang's words, Han Yiyi glanced at the two timid children behind her and finally suppressed her anger. There was no other reason than that there were two adults in front of her, and she was with two children.

If a fight really broke out, she wasn't confident she could win against two opponents. As for Aunt Zhang, Han Yiyi didn't want her to get involved with that old hag again because of her.

"Auntie, I've brought you a basket, and these are the fish I caught in the stream today. I'll make fish soup for Da Niu and the others..."

Da Niu is Aunt Zhang's eldest son. Aunt Zhang has a total of four children: two sons and two daughters, namely Da Niu, Er Niu, San Ni, and Si Ni.

Han Yiyi turned to talk to Aunt Zhang, pushing the basket in her hand back and forth in front of Aunt Zhang. As for the old hag's words, Han Yiyi just treated them as the barking of a mad dog.

However, Han Yiyi made a mental note of the old witch's actions. As the saying goes, a gentleman takes revenge even after ten years, and she would definitely make that old witch pay in the future.

Aunt Zhang's eyes lit up when she saw the three-pound fish in the basket, but she quickly declined after hearing Han Yiyi's words.

“Oh dear, what a big fish! Da Niu and the others are all so big, it’s a waste for them to drink this. You should take it back and give it to Daya and Shitou to help them recover…”

Han Yiyi knew that Aunt Zhang would refuse, so she spoke up somewhat shyly.

“Auntie, please accept it. Don’t worry, I caught two fish. We already have one at home. Besides, I used the basket you used to deliver vegetables to me to catch the fish, and I even broke the basket in the process. If you don’t accept it, we’ll feel bad eating the fish we have at home…”

Hearing Han Yiyi's words, Aunt Zhang couldn't help but chuckle.

“You silly girl, a broken basket isn’t worth many coins. If you want it, I’ll have Da Niu weave a few more for you…”

Aunt Zhang's baskets were all woven by Da Niu when he had nothing else to do. Sometimes he would take them to the market to sell, but many people could weave them, so they didn't fetch a good price. A basket could only sell for two or three coins, and most of the time he couldn't even sell them.

Hearing Han Yiyi say that there was still one fish at home, and that it was hot today and the fish was no longer fresh, and that it would probably spoil if left until tomorrow, he took the basket.

When Granny Fan heard Han Yiyi say there were fish in the basket, she quietly moved closer to the two of them, wanting to see how big the fish were. Now that she was closer, she could see the fish in the basket.

Seeing the fish in the basket, which looked to weigh a full three pounds, Old Lady Fan's eyes turned red. She subconsciously reached out to take it, but as soon as her hand touched the fish, Han Yi slapped her arm.

Aunt Zhang quickly turned around, moved the basket aside, and looked at Granny Fan with displeasure.

"You little whore, how dare you hit me..."

Han Yiyi's slap was merciless and carried a hint of revenge, as evidenced by the five finger marks that quickly swelled up on the old hag's arm.

Looking at the five bright red finger marks on her arm, Old Witch Fan pointed at Han Yiyi and began to curse.

Seeing this, Aunt Zhang quickly pulled Han Yiyi behind her.

Looking at the old hag Fan, who was now pointing at him with a face full of anger, as if she was about to tear him apart at any moment, Han Yiyi spoke up.

“I’m fighting a robber who tried to steal my fish. If you dare to lay a finger on me, I’ll tell the whole village that your mother, a scholar, shamelessly stole someone’s fish in public. Let’s see who’s ashamed then, you or your ungrateful scholar son…”

"You little whore, don't talk nonsense. I didn't steal anything. I was just looking..."

"Look, I hit the hand that caught my fish. Since you just wanted to look, it means you didn't actually hit it, so I didn't hit you..."

At this moment, Granny Fan really wanted to slap Han Yiyi. She couldn't understand how the little slut who used to be so timid and obedient to her had suddenly become so sharp-tongued. However, when she saw Cuihua getting up and returning to her courtyard, she seemed to think of something and turned back to her own courtyard as well.

Before leaving, however, he glared fiercely at Han Yi and Aunt Zhang and the others.

Watching the old hag Fan enter the courtyard, Han Yiyi hurriedly raised her hand to her mouth and blew on it, thinking to herself, "This old hag is really thick-skinned; she made my hand hurt from hitting her."

Aunt Zhang frowned as she looked at Han Yiyi's bright red palm and spoke.

“Han girl, you’re raising two children all by yourself now. Old Mrs. Fan is usually quite shrewish and domineering, so you should be careful when you run into her. If you need anything, you can come to me…”

Han Yi naturally knew that Aunt Zhang was saying these things for his own good, and they were all true. Given his current situation, it was indeed not suitable for him to confront the Fan family head-on. So he quickly thanked her and, seeing that it was getting late, led the two children back to the thatched hut.

As the sun began to set, Han Yiyi busied herself preparing dinner. She was penniless and had nothing to light her home, so she had to finish everything before dark and go to sleep. Han Yiyi comforted herself, thinking that this way she could live a life of working at sunrise and resting at sunset.

In the evening, Han Yiyi prepared to make a fish head soup. She had flour, so she decided to use it to make a few thin pancakes on the side of the pot.

Han Yiyi cut the remaining fish into small pieces, thinking she could eat it tomorrow. Worried it might spoil, she added some salt.

Once the fish soup in the pot turned milky white, Han Yiyi added some salt and tasted it. However, she couldn't help but feel a little regretful.

If only golden-brown fried eggs could be cooked with tender tofu, and a little cilantro added, Han Yiyi smacked her lips at the thought. But now the soup didn't even have any ginger, so it still had a slightly fishy smell.

She sighed softly, thinking to herself, "I must get up early tomorrow and go for a stroll in the back mountain to see if I can find anything good to exchange for with the Little Flower System. Besides, isn't it said that transmigrated women always encounter ginseng when they climb mountains? Maybe I can have such good luck too..."
